Some of these are before my time, but many I remember from when I was a kid. http://oldfortyfives.com/DYRT.htm

Last nite I order one for my wife and one for myself. Now we can be like old farts with matching helmets similar color to the bike. Plus free shipping! Two new helmets for $129.98.

Here in Minnesota I keep the garage heated to 68 degrees so my big red RSV doesn't get cold and decide it doesn't like me anymore....plus that's where the man cave is....

Bought two of the $40 black sheep skin (no gel). One for driver seat, one for passenger seat. Tied a couple of 1" wooden beads to the leather tie-downs on the front one so I can wedgy the beads in between front seat and back seat. Can be easily removed and tossed onto the trunk. Back one can be easily tied to the trunk brackets.

Had gel seat pads that we ended up not using because they didn't seem to make much difference. Got mesquito wipes leaked on them and were destroyed. Bought the real sheepskin covers and love them. Made the 550 mile ride to Sturgis last year much more comfortable. http://www.wildthingsfur.com/products.asp?cat=14

ABSOLUTELY A SCAM Common sense should tell that when someone is desperate to sell a vehicle, cheap, they definitely don't need to go hundreds or thousands of miles away to do it. I search craigslist numersous times throughout the day. When a local for sale by owner vehicle comes up for sale at a nice price and has a phone number, it doesn't last long.

Novibe Grips?
Bwhite replied to nbowersock's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yep. Those look strikingly similar to the Karyakin grips. I had to replace the left one before Sturgis last year because the pot metal frame towards outside snapped. I didn't use the plastic insert tube that comes with new grips though. I machined an aluminim piece to fit into the i.d. of the handle bar to extend the length about 3/4" to take up the hollow space.- 9 replies

Four years ago the city tore up the streets in our neighborhood and replaced everything. They also buried a sump pump tile on each side of the street to hook the basement sump pumps into so water would no longer pump out into the curb. It turned out to be a disaster. 1. Our two sump pump drain lines got tied into the the street tile before they were suppose too. None of the other neighbors homes did because the workers stopped when they dug up the next door neighbors tv cable. Was later told they don't tie these in until right before putting down the new overlayment. 2. A contractor dump truck drove on part of the buried sump tile and crushed it. 3. We got 6 inches of rain one night and water flooded the street, filled up the perforated sump tile line buried in the street and backed up mud puddle colored rain water into our basement backwards through the sump pump drain pipes. It was backing up water past the sump pumps while they were running. I had to find my two buried sump pump drain lines outside in the yard at 3:00 in the morning while it's pouring rain and lightning crazy, dig a hole aroung them and cut off 6" to relieve the pressure from shooting muddy water into the basement. Called the city on Monday morning and the Head Engineer came out and looked at it and told me that there was something wrong because no one should be tied into the sump tile at this point in the project. Anyway.......after months of going after the city, getting the League of Cities involved, we were told that the city was not culpable for any damages and that the flooding was caused by the homeowner altering the sump drain lines and that there was no indication to the contrary because no one else in the neighborhood had a problem. We could have taken the city to civil court to try and recover damage losses, but after already loosing one time with all the photographs we had, including a pic of the contractors replacing the smashed tile line which they left sitting in the yard for a week after digging it up, we decided to just forget it. Never to trust these people again.

Ditto that....I replaced 404's on front and rear with Dunlop Elite 3. Way different ride now. Put a 130 on the front and in my opinion, it made the bike much easier to handle. I've only put about 1000 miles on with the 130, both one up and two up, can't really say I've noticed much of an increase in wind or road groove sensitivity. Bwhite 2000 RSV

I had the E3 130 installed on the front yesterday afternoon. When I got on the bike to ride home, I could tell immediately the difference. The 40 mile ride home was like riding a different bike. The handling is now similar to what my 1100 Vstar was. I'm lov'in it....it feels like 200 lbs has been taken off the front tire. Thanks all for input.

Ouch!!! Stealer tire prices
Bwhite replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Wow! I just had an E3 rear installed on our Gen II RSV for $175 total. Not at dealer but that's because I don't trust our local Yamaha dealer to work on a RSV. Kinda gave me heartburn when I had them do work on the 1100 Vstar. Look around, you should be able to find someone in your area. You may have to order the tire and bring it in, but it sounds like you could save $$$. -
Goose, you ever consider running for elective position. You'd have my vote. My wife and I were at a local bar Saturday morning that serves good breakfast for a reasonable price. Already sitting at several tables behind us was a group of bikers. We were there about 45 minutes and I happened to notice that one young gal ordered 2 bloody mary's before she left to gas up her bike. Probably wouldn't have paid any attention except she was one of several that didn't shut up the whole time. When we walked out I turned to my wife and told her "that's why I choose not to ride in groups". I don't mind being a dry rider, but when the ride is done, it's time to relax. P.S. I had the police scanner on a couple of weeks ago while changing oil on the bike, etc. Local deputy pulled about a dozen bikes out on the river road by the state park. Later he called for back up and a flat bed tow for 4 of the bikes. Ride safe everyone....

Usually 2nd...it seems like higher RPM's but that's the nature of the Yamaha. I had a hard time with my 1100 Vstar to remember, it's not a Hardley.

Thank you for the input. I'm convinced, I'm going to change out the front 404 with an E3. Buddy - what does the 130/90-16 convert to for the E3 bias. I'm not real knowlegdeable when it comes to this. I looked on the Dunlop website, that size isn't listed. Thanks again for the help!

I just had the rear tire replaced on our 2000 RSV that we bought last spring. The guy that did the work said that the Dunlop 404 that was on there was too light of tire. Now have E3 on back. Amazing, what a difference in handling and ride. The front tire is a 404 with about half tred left. Will replacing the front with a E3 improve the ride as much as what the rear did? The guy at the shop said to run it out and replace it when it needs to be.

We are planning a trip down to northeast Iowa/Southwest Wisconsin in the next several weeks for a ride along the Mississippi river. Can anyone recommend roads, places of interest, a nice old style motel? We did the river ride from Hastings, MN down to LaCrosse earlier this summer and it was wonderful. Stayed in Fountain City, WI one nite at an older style motel that was completely refurbished. The motel owners were just wonderful. They hung out with us outside in the evening and chatted.

pulled over for going through red light last night
Bwhite replied to saddlebum's topic in Watering Hole
MINNESOTA RED LIGHT LAW Sec. 42. Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 169.06, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: Subd. 9. [AFFIRMATIVE DEFENSE RELATING TO UNCHANGING TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL.] (a) A person operating a motorcycle who violates subdivision 4 by entering or crossing an intersection controlled by a traffic-control signal against a red light has an affirmative defense to that charge if the person establishes all of the following conditions: (1) the motorcycle has been brought to a complete stop; (2) the traffic-control signal continues to show a red light for an unreasonable time; (3) the traffic-control signal is apparently malfunctioning or, if programmed or engineered to change to a green light only after detecting the approach of a motor vehicle, the signal has apparently failed to detect the arrival of the motorcycle; and (4) no motor vehicle or person is approaching on the street or highway to be crossed or entered or is so far away from the intersection that it does not constitute an immediate hazard. (b) The affirmative defense in this subdivision applies only to a violation for entering or crossing an intersection controlled by a traffic-control signal against a red light and does not provide a defense to any other civil or criminal action. -
Planning to get to Sturgis on Sunday late afternoon. Staying at a private ranch about 1/8 mile north of the Piedmont exit.

2000 RSV - The guy I bought the bike from this past winter just stopped by work and dropped off the factory pipes. Said he was cleaning out the shop over the weekend and figured I might want them. Question: the pipes on there now sound OK although get a bit loud on the highway and need to crank up radio. Also cackles and pops when slowing from high speeds. Are oems quiet like a Goldwing or?

I'm thinking of adding a radiator cover to the bike. I thought I saw a black one online somewhere but can't seem to locate the website again. Does anyone know what that is, or is chrome the suggested fit. Also, doesn't air flow become impeded by adding one?

Being hubby and you are just starting out, I highly advise against jumping into riding on a Royal Star Venture. I just purchased a used one this winter and have now put about 1200 miles on it. The top heavy weight takes some getting used to. I've been riding for 30 years and rode a 1100 Vstar for the last 7 years before the RSV. I really liked the Vstar. The wife convinced me to buy the cadillac RSV after she got vertigo and couldn't ride her own bike any more. Have you considered looking for a used, for sale by owner, bike such as the 1100 Vstar? Will give hubby time to become seasoned on a mid weight bike.

Is there somewhere online I can purchase intercom adaptor cables that hook into the connectors on the bike? What is manufacturer and part number? Also, what then do I need to adapt those to earbuds? I've read that the Sony EX71SLB work nice and are comfy. I'm thinking of doing this more for my wife so she can hear the radio while riding on back. Am I on the right track here....if she's plugged into rear connector will speakers still have sound?
