  1. next time it acts up switch to reserve. If that helps your petcock screens need cleaned... If that doesn't help: pull over, shut bike off, take helmet off and listen very carefully when you open your gas cap. If there is a vacume, there is a process where you can modify the bullet shaped rubber. Good idea to blue loctite the screws as it "will' fall apart eventually and you "will" be fishing the parts that are left over out of your gas tank. by the way a new gas cap costs $150... don't ask me how I know... Assume you haven't purchased aftermarket gas cap... which by the way is the quickest way to collapse a tank if its not a vented cap... replace fuel filter... they are dirt cheap and easy to change as posted by Dray: yes its a common problem with the Vstar's when she get's it back she will need to remove the gas cap and take it apart the vent is in the cap here is the fix for ya:thumbsup2: http://www.ragdoll.net/bike/gascap.htm
  2. Or Gloss black, flat black and chrome
  3. Perhaps we should come up with a caption for this? "An accident looking for place to happen?"
  4. Rules of the ocean apply here... If it's bigger than you are, Yield!... You did the right thing... Hate to drive on interstates, but when I do, the 6 second rule applies... Leave plenty of room between myself and the person in front of me and never try to close any gaps or ever ride in a persons blind spot. If riding beside someone, you can bet he can see me face to face as I stay in the far left hand side of the lane. Don't know how many bikers I have seen moving to the right when someone is passing them or in heavy trafic. I think/know, this is inviting drivers into your lane so I never do it. Also never ride in the far right lane as that is the decellaration/acceleration/merge lane and just isn't my cup of tea. Travel the speed of everyone around me as you can bet everyone is going at least 10-15 mph over in the cities in rush hour... Another thing, I almost never hit cities between 8-9am, 12-1 pm or 4-6 pm. Will stop and get a bite to eat as thats when all the hot heads are out. Just remember, if it deteriorates into a pi$$ing match...you will lose. Your in charge of your own destiny. Defensive driving/planning is in order... Another thing if your involved in an accident and don't actually hit the guy that caused it... you may just be in for a surprise depending on which state you are in...
  5. Speaking of car shocks.... Has anyone attempted to see if one or two could be modified to fit the RSV?
  6. Yup that Eileen is definately a Keeper! Penny and I will pray for the entire family.
  7. That looks cool...I like it!
  8. You mean like "What do you like the most about religion?" or "What political party is gonna win in 2012?" Sorry Boss I just couldn't resist....
  9. Nope... But perhaps the inside seal pushed out when you greased it last? This happened to me when I tore apart, cleaned the bearings in diesel fuel, air hosed and drilled wheel on inside, threaded and installed grease zerks and repacked with marine grade grease as i also use it for my jet ski. My HF trailer is a 2005 model and I never could find a "bearing buddy" that would actually fit as they are a screwy size...
  10. Well hopefully they will take that ventilator out so he can tell those durn RN's to "KNOCK IT OFF!" LOL Penny and I are continuing to pray for Ponch, kathy and Shannon.
  11. Political and religious dicussions... There was a time, not so long ago, when people could sit down and have a civil dicussion regardless of the topic, afterwhich they would shake hands and head to the local resturant or bar and share a meal and drink. This is not only how we learn, but better ourselves as a people. A quote from the stature of liberty(yes I know this is an international forum but please bear with me), “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...". Any one know why? Because we had a lot in common with them. In the old country, the heirachy was already established and the people at the top were taxing and dooling out rules and regulations like candy. People resented this and they choose to come here... for a better way of life. We became a melting pot for people of all walks of life. With ideas from a kazillion different points of view, and, because we could sit down to discuss them, we could sucessfully choose the best possible path. Instead of one person with one point of view and blinders on to the rest of the world designing (place product here) or ruling(place dictator here) telling us what we liked or what to do. If I had to choose one word to describe why they were so sucessful back then, it would be a shared "tolerance", because they understood and in fact, had lived with the consequences of intolerance. Tolerance or toleration is the practice of permitting a thing of which one disapproves, such as social, ethnic, sexual, or religious practices. In order to be tolerant though, everyone participating would have to be civil(non-aggressive) and keep an open mind. In this day and age though I don't see that happening and it is to the detrement of us all. Perhaps tolerance should be taught in our schools instead of political correctness? You decide...
  12. Anyone have medical insurance on their motorcycle policy? Vaguely remember hearing about one for an additional $100... Just how good/what is covered on this?. Paying for my own coverage but have 5000 deductable with 80/20 split after that, so, a medical bill of 105,000 would end up costing me $25,000...
  13. I've never been there but I'd love to go... Will shoot you a PM when the time gets nearer...
  14. Go for it! Heck if I had more space in my garage (and money) "mainly money" I'd have one of each.... BMW, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Victory, Harley, triumph.... etc... My dads favorite saying "Experience is the best teacher"
  15. " He said the one reason he eventually sold his ventures was the top heavyness, still has a cassette deck, and carbs, basically and outdated bike and also didn't like the shaft drive with the jerking ect.' top heavy? only at speed below 4mph and can be somewhat corrected with leveling links in the rear or raising forks in triple clamps in the front. Cassette deck? well a CD player is just about as old technology...in my humble opinion. a mp3 player with a removable +4 Gig flash drive would be much better. Don't /never had a problem with the carbs... Shaft drive/jerking act??? sounds like somethings wrong with the bike he rode??? Every bike has it's problems including the Ultra , close to $10,000 more for the same ammeneties, no 5 year warranty, Hot as *&^% in the summer, not water cooled so... you will be working on it before 100,000 miles etc... so on and so forth... no thanks I'll stick to my Venture...
  16. Not sure if your RSTD has clutch winning problems, but, it is ok to use that oil in your bike. The reason i mentioned the winning problem is, on my second oil change last fall, I used Yamalube 10w30 and the whinning got markedly Louder... so i switched back to Yamahalube 20w40.
  17. Ponch, Kathy and family, will be in Penny and my prayers.
  18. Ezcellent:duck:!
  19. "What is "IT".........a gizmo to attach to my Venture AND my wife's V-Star that CANCELS our signal lights the SECOND we turn the corner and bring our bikes to the upright position" I've witnessed the problem on quite a few bikes over the years and yes it can be quite dangerous going down the road with ones turn signal on. My wife bought a 250 Vstar back in 2009 and I kept asking her why she didn't turn her turn signals off. Her responce was I can't see them flashing... (there is a little flashing light about the size of a pencil eraser under the clamps to hold the handlebars on.) So I purchased (2) three element LEDs from advance auto about 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" long, wired and mounted them to the top triple clamps outside fork bolts. Problem solved. She can see them now. Personally I've always kept my thumb on the switch and turn off asap... habit...
  20. Hey wait a minute!...I'm 53... Now you went and done it.... Happy birthday Old goat!
  21. There is a resistance check you can do on your stator wires under tank. If it's not in spec you'll have to replace. Should be documented in the tech section.
  22. Ryana7769 "Well since I got a midnight....how about a black light? " Ahhhhh.... black lights... brings back some very good memmories at the college frat parties......
  23. Naturbar, "where can I get an antenna for my RSTD to fly that pennant?? " at any radio shack. I installed a CB on my 650 VStar. CB came from walmart 29.99, antenna and precut cable came from radioshack. figured CB was cheap enough to replace every year at that price(although if you cover up with a gallon ziplock it'll last ya) heck some people do that with our weatherproof CB/radio heads on the RSV. go figure Or. you could do a car type suction cup mount...
  24. See there ... I f they had been wearing there helmets with the flashing green lights you'd have at least known they were part of our group....LOL Seriously though any time you see a Venture give em a shout on channel 29... it's abpoout all you can do short of stalking them...
  25. Humm, I must be getting old, but "poke" in the pines means something specific to my generation... As does "Hooking up"... Learned this from my 26 yr old daughter.... Be very careful the words you use today...
