  1. Here's an inexpensive solution for cold hands/fingers while hunting or riding a bike... [ame=http://www.amazon.com/HeatMax-Toasti-Toes-Warmer-Pairs/dp/B0007ZF4PE]Amazon.com: HeatMax Toasti Toes Foot Warmer (40 Pairs): Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51OFZ6JlcHL.@@AMEPARAM@@51OFZ6JlcHL[/ame] http://www.amazon.com/Heat-Factory-Pop-Top-Mittens-Warmers/product-reviews/B0049HW2YW/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 I also buy the tostie-toes or foot-warmup to tape on to the ball of my foot while hunting or motorcycling. Note: if your toes or fingers get cold...You will get cold... Also like the way the gloves are designed as you can change from mitts to fingered in a flash!
  2. Taking with a friend of mine yesterday. Sharon's a retired private school teacher for the special kids. At 64 she has no health insurance, perscription or dental. She'll turn 65 in two weeks. Her husband Jerry who is a few years older and on medicare, just had a successful quadruple heart bypass. The Dr. wrote out the scripts for Jerry, Sharon went to Wallmart to fill them. First she ask how much they cost. It was $300 for one and $500 for the other for a one month supply. She said "now I know why people have to make the decision on wether to eat, or, buy their prescriptions..." She said no thanks, I can't afford it. She called the Dr. back up and ask how in the world was she suppose to come up with that much money "every month". The Dr. Said let me work with the folks at Wallmart... After switching the medications she is now paying less than $14 for a 3 month supply. Just though I'd pass this on as it may help one of us or someone you know...
  3. Prayers sent from Penny and I.
  4. Penny put him on the prayer chain at church this past Sunday. Hopefully this will speed the healing process up...
  5. Penny and I will be praying for your family.
  6. Ya know, if you'd have done the trip on the Steelers "BYE" week. I'd have rode the Dragon with ya... Altough I can't remember a snow this bad this early.. Used to feel lucky to ski Seven Springs at Thanksgiving... Believe we are in for a bad one.... At least we know where it started... Isn't that right BOngoBobNY?
  7. Hey Boomer, Kbran.... make sure you gear up and have a safe ride (but, only if you want to) as you don't have the excuse thats it's to hot. And make sure you take pictures, (but, only if you want to). Remember, If you don't, it didn't happen.
  8. Here ya go again, people telling other people to Be safe... In order for you to be politically correct, you need to state it like this: "Be safe (but only if you want to)" , (but only if you want to)" Nuyk, NUYK, NUYK... Woop, woop, woop, woop...
  9. I also have been an avid deer hunter for more than 30 years. A deer is an animal... They are Unpredictable... I for one appreciate the main point you were trying to get across... Expect the unexpected... And for that I thank you... I'm gonna go grab a cold one now, and watch a movie...
  10. Don't think Flyinfool meant that it would attack you literally, only that they are preoccupied... and to use a previously mentioned phrase "Those big bucks are thinkin with the little head instead of the big head ":confused24: Two year's ago a doe ran in front of our 4 wheeler and was goin +30 mph? (like a bat out of hell) and she changed direction when she saw us. The buck that was following her, came within 20 feet of us and just trotted along, didn't even look at us. Just like we weren't even there. Now if we, had been another buck... I know for a fact ... the sparks would have flew... I've actually had the honor of watching it a couple of times... Kinda of like high school boys tryin to impress a female........
  11. Freebird "Yea, I could do that but unfortunately, it would still be there when you look out the window. " Kinda like politics and religion, huh ? Since we know where this snow origionated ... I propose we form a lynch mob....
  12. Excellent!
  13. Thanks for posting this... It's quite a list. I was very Surprised to see some of the businesses that were participating on the list...
  14. Thats very good advice... Ask my wife to slow down on the back roads, twice yesterday and about 15 seconds after the second statement, while going around a curve, a big old doe ran across the road in front of us. Had we'd been going 55 we'd have been eatin deer meat... and I'd have been ordering parts for our new Toyota Corolla... We generally try to stay around 45 mph on the back roads... Be careful out there!
  15. Penny and I are still prayin. She will send in a prayer request at church this Sunday.
  16. footsie "I have riders with complete riding gear boots, armor jackets and pants with the best of helmets dead with a broken neck BECAUSE of the helment, seen the same come get checked out and go home. " I'm thinking any fall violent enough to "cause a helmet" to break someones neck would surely be enough to break their skull (results being the same) Spear "Just watch Casey Stoner and his buddies tearing around the racing tracks of the world. Watch when one of them comes off at over 300km/hr and slides down the track. What do they do after they’ve finished sliding? They get straight up and try to resurrect what’s left of their bike. Why? Because they can. Because they’ve dressed for the slide, not for the ride." This brings up a good point... I don't know of one Professional racer that doesn't wear a helmet and Protective gear... Do you? Perhaps they know something the rest of us don't...LOL Logic, statistics and common sense... Can't be applied in this case as it's approaching the same mindset some get when discussing politics and religion... Talk all you want but your not going to change anothers mind. My dad who passed 5 years ago had a saying: Experience is the best teacher. This is the truest thing thats ever been said... I for one like to learn (get my experiences) from what I see going on around me.
  17. Whos living in fear?.... I give this post about an 80% chance of being deleted.... Do you know the old saying "keep your friends close... but your enemies closer"? The police keep tabs on these types of people, so, it really wouldn't do them any good to start arresting them and have them scatter like rats. Then the'd have to figure out who took their place. When it comes to drugs someone will always be there to fill in the void and sell them. Watched quite a few programs on Prohibition... Conclusion: "It didn't work"... You just create a black market that you can't tax, along with all the unseemly characters coming out of the woodwork. legalize the drugs and you'll let all the air out of their tires. Would go a long way to solving our southern border problem. Even if legalized, I wouldn't try them.. smarter than that... besides I have more important things to do...
  18. First off, I would never post a saftey gear opinion, on a post requesting prayers, for someone that is hurt, and in fact, think it was not a good decision to do so. Now, that doesn't mean that the majority of people wasn't "thinking it"... Secondly It should have ended there, as it's not going to do the people currently going through anguish and grief any good. Especially with the streak of accidents we've been having lately. So if anyone from those circumstances reads this, I hope they understand this is not directed in any way towards them. However... Until the motorcycle Insurance companies start covering health care costs for all motorcycle riders, with increased rates for people that don't wear helmets, I can't agree with you. Seat belts, and Helmets save lives and lessen a persons stay in the hospital. It's a proven fact... My crash with a deer last year was $12,000, $1000 for a ambulance trip and $11,000 for 3 hours in the ER. I got to pay $7,200 with my crappy $5000 ded. insurance that I pay over $500 a month for... " and I was wearing a full face with all the gear". It would have been much worse, had I not... the Dr said it was a miracle that I ended up with just 2 broken ribs... No road rash... the visor and chin portion of the helmet was almost completely ground thru ... Dr. said he would have been talking facial reconstruction and plastic surgeon had i not worn one... Now, When one is in the hospital for days/weeks/months, there is "no way" that what they paid in, will cover the bill. Hence the insurance companies spread the costs out amongst everyone including me. With all the people that get insurance free and, all the people that don't take the necessary precautions, I'm being pushed to the point of considering dropping my insurance as I can no longer afford it... At one time seat belts weren't mandatory.... Imagine that... rant off...
  19. Ensure the front and rear tires and shocks are to spec. and you've got good quality tires. Use front break sparingly in low speed turns and rely on the rear brake . These are very good suggestions. Make sure you tell the passenger that the only thing she should be moving (when your going under 5 mph is her head). If she has a bad habit of moving around, tell her to place her hands on your shoulders and just rotate her head into the turn following your lead. Being inseam challenged, I tried the leveling links(homemade) and didn't like them. Believe I gave to Freebird at last MD. The solution to the problem was to raise the forks in the triple clamps 1 inch and rotate the valve stems 90deg. so that they pointed out towards the end of your handlebars. If you don't rotate the forks, you will have to buy a set of taller risers so that you can get to the valve stem. Worked like a charm for me.
  20. Penny and I will be praying.
  21. Don't thank thank me yet ... If those Wingnuts start in, I'm not prominsing nothing...LOL
  22. Here's some pics as promised... This works like a charm...
  23. Success! Modified my Utopia backrest mount with a piece of 3" x 3" X 1/4" angle iron and welded on a 3/4" nut. Now I can screw a 18" removable bar into the area behind the backrest of the riders seat and below the passenger seat. This will allow me to put my arse against the bar to back this heavy beastie up without getting close to the ABS saddle bag! I will store the bar in the saddle bag (looks like it will make a really nice "PERSUADER" also)... LOL Will post pics tomorrow, as the paints drying as we speak. WoooooooooHooooooo!
  24. Glad you're ok... As we ... ahheemmm,... I mean you.... get older, the need to focus your attention becomes more obvious.. Don't worry about it, just increase your distance and awareness and quit lookin at the women ...
  25. Hey guys, This is an old post. My intent was to develop a way so that we could identify a fellow Venture rider from a distance, advertize our group and display our cb channel. Origionally got the idea while reading numerous "is this one of ours" posts. In the beginning there was a lot of reisistace as to designating a spot to put stickers/decals. Hence the penant idea, in fact I believe it is the best place(highest) to have one. For the pennant idea to work it would have to have Dons blessing, a little design work, and a minimum order of 200-250? with all proceeds going to the venturerider.org, the same as any other merchandise. Of the over 12,000 members here, there were only, a few that showed any interest in 2 1/2 months. At this point the prospect is unlikely.
