I've been through there many times, not once have I, or any one I know, gotten speeding tickets ... As Skid alluded to, "oversized" speed limit signs are a "sign" that they really, really , mean it and to please slow down.... That being said, with the lake and all congestion being right there, some people still ignore them and then complain when they are ticketed...

" Sorry to hear that, I checked the calender before I posted the date to avoid stepping on other events and nothings on it for the entire month of March? What will happen is, of the people that are definately going, we will adjust the dates and places to suit ourselves... although I don't want to stay in Key West on a weekend...It's a lot more expensive that way. So basically it's March 12-15,19-22 or 26-29th on the chain of islands. So check back the dates may move... Would like to also get some feed back from people that have worked "their way to Key West" staying in various towns along that chain of islands... that way we could possibly explore a broader area. Key Largo looked like an excellent place to stay a day or so. Do Any others come to mind? Islamorada and Big Pine Key look good also as previously mentioned?

What does a gator call a couple of motorcylists broke down on alligator alley? ---SNACKS!--- Traveled that road... no berm to pull off on, a lot of alligators. Kept getting the feeling the gators were licking their lips...LOL Now that you mention it, staying in Key Largo if I bring the trailer would be perfect! would cut Pennys ride to less than 2 hours?

Thinking last week of March, to accommodate people from northern states. Also checked Key West calender, we won't run into any major events. Arriving 3/26 Departing 3/29 Thursday (3 nights) or 3/30 Friday (4 nights) Bed and breakfast is good, a little on the expensive side. Blue Lagoon $100 a night (very Basic). Truman Annex $56 (retired military rate). Most other motels between $120-200 per night. Campgrounds? Any other suggestions are welcome... We can add to the list of accommodations... I'm ready to Roll!

Boys outing? I certainly hope not... this ride is for everyone, wives included... If... I could tear my wife away from this place for a week, I'd be estatic! But the fact of the matter is, her idea of a motorcycle ride is about 3 hrs. that plus she's not really to fond of the beach. She knows about it and I've ask her to come along... although... Hummmmmm... Maybe if I trailer the bike(s) down to Miami, then she could ride her own bike from Miami to Key West 161 miles... or a little more than 3 hours ... yeah.... may be onto something... Wonder if we have any members in the Miami, Kendal, Homestead area willing to offer a spot to park a truck and trailer?

I can vouch for alaskan leather large sheared butt pad delux (uniform 1 inch thick) with nose strap... If it's really hot out and your literally sticking to the seat it sure helps... Also helps in the cold weather... -
Does it void this??? Most definately! My advice if that were to happen, is to wear a helmet at all times! LOL

If you intend to swim at the beach, It'll motivate you to go everyday... look at it as a reward I can also gaurentee you head won't hurt this time, as I know for a fact the warden doesn't ride bikes...LOL ECK this is going to be in March so you don't have an excuse not to be there... lol

Don't know if you do this or not, but a trick I've learned is to look down the road about 100 yrds. If your looking 30' or less, well lets just say, that's what your about to hit... Sounds like you were acutely aware of the surroundings and thats what's important when things go south.... On an interstate "I" either leave a gap to my left by varying my speed, or, ride in the left hand lane at whatever the current pace of traffic is. Regardless, that's where I go when I see someone about to enter the interstate that isnt going fast enough. The right hand lane has two spots, the entrance and exit ramp where the differences in speed are what can get someone killed. You can and will be cut off by people entering the highway going slower than traffic at the entrance ramp. You can and will, be cut off by people trying to get in front of you at the exit ramp. Regardless of what lane I'm in, it is always in the left portion, two feet from the line, I never ride in middle (oil/obstacles) or right portion of any lane. The other reason i do this as well as the 6 second rule is it allows you to see obstacles in the road in front of you. Most road clutter is in the middle and extreeme sides as the tires from cars have a way of cleaning off the road. It also allows a "minor course correction as you are only 2 feet from the line(escape path)(concrete/blacktop on both sides) as opposed to a major 12+ feet course change"(gravel on right side)... Those couple of extra feet can get you killed... Seriously though, you did good, no one was hurt, bike is unscathed, other than some soiled underware, it's all good...

I'm not especially fond of the game either but that guy is dumb as a rock saying something like that to a georgeous woman... Someone that resouceful won't tolerate something/someone that is not useful... Especially since she hasn't eaten meat in a while... Let me expand upon that... As in cannibal... ok?

Sounds like we 've got some interest here. Probably get something together for the 2nd, third or fourth week of March 2012. That way it will/should be warm enough to ride the bike down. I hope..LOL First week is out for me as Pennys birthday is on the 3rd of March...

cb1313... What kind of trailer is that ? I have never seen one like that.. Pretty cool considering as heavy as these bikes are, every inch you can save in loading height is priceless...

Prayers for your wife and family... Take your little beasties, quarter them cook in pressure cooker till done. Take lid off and let simmer. Then get the flour out, one egg, touch of salt a little water... mix it all up till it's not sticky... throw some flour down on the table and press down with hand sprinkle more dry flour, roll out till 1/8 thick. Cut in 1" squares and drop in pressure cookers boiling water for 20 min... Squirrel Potpie.....Yummmmmmmmm Now you went and did it, I'm Hungry:witch_brew:
