  1. Ok we've heard from Dray, SilvrT, Tom what about the biggest wingnut of all??? ECK! Bring it! Thanks Tx2sturgis Ill give the technique a try. I've got a 4 bay garage and with all this rain had to move my bike out of the concrete bay.... Due to welding and a miriad of projects started but not complete... the other bays are mildly sloped to the back and have 3/4 - 1" gravel that I must push the bike backwards in for about 30'. I could put crusher run down and fill up the voids in the stone and it would be a lot easier to move. However it got me to thinking, I've been in other situations like this where I had to back my bike up. When im standing straddling the bike I am just barely flat footed and it doesn't take much gravel at all to stop this human powered reverse...LOL Going to take Penny, Mom, Aunt Mary on a leaf looker ride in the cage before all the leaves fall off. Hopefully have lunch at North Bend State park, then back to the garage to work on a removable bar for the side that i can push on . Thanks guys for all your help and 'humor'...
  2. ricardracing "see a trike in my future. Don't have to worry about dumping the bike when my foot slips out from under me." might be in mine also... LOL go ahead laugh it up wingnuts...Dray & SilvrT:rotf: Me, I'm gonna be pounding and welding this weekend...
  3. Flyinfool.. sorry misread you...Of course thats what i did... with one caveot... they took the left balance nerve out of the left side of my head back in 2000 (acoustic neuroma, mid fossa) and my so my balance also suks "hence the kickstand". Just got back from looking at it. If, one would bolt a bracket to both the ( bolt for the front upper saddlebag guard) and to the (bolt in front of the passenger arm rest) it would be a solid base. Then weld a 3" L x 1/2" bolt to that, in front of the saddlebag lid. Then I could weld a nut onto the end of a padded pipe about a foot long so i could screw it on, put my arse against it, and push with my legs. Ideally it would be level with the seat. That way i could take it off and store in my saddle bag. Electric reverse would be ideal but how would one hook it up short of having 2 pinion gears in the back of the gear case assembly(one in front 9 o'clock position for driveline, one in back 3 o'clock positionfor reverse)? Don't know how Goldwings do it but knew i was gonna catch heat from someone(ain't that right Dray)...
  4. Golf&Venture "How about a small electric come-along that hooks to the ball of a hitch. Hmmm I kinda of like that idea. I think a trip to HF is due. " What would you anchor it to? Flyinfool "a lot of it is technique. When I first got the bike I had a lot of difficulty completing this maneuver. I can't say how many times I had the bike right on the edge of no return for dropping it. Fortunately I never did drop it. Now that I have been doing it for 4 years the bike seems to float out of the shed and up the hill with very little effort." Works for me also on a flat hard surface but due to my being "leg length challenged", I'm scr%#ed when it comes to pushing a bike backwards on gravel. Hey maybe that qualifies me for diasability under SSI?
  5. Also don't want people pushing on the ABS fairing or Trunk for that matter... as they can and will crack...
  6. Don't think the wife is gonna like your answer...LOL (I've got two Beautiful daughters, one 27 the other 32...)
  7. The good lord blessed me with a lot of things but not long legs (29" inseam)...LOL I've been in a few unavoidable areas where I have had to back my bike up and it is impossible for me to do so while on the bike. Yesterday I found myself with the kick stand down, placing my backside up against the passenger grab rail and it worked pretty good... Got me to thinking, this is exactly how you pick up a bike that is layed over, using your legs! Now I need to find something i can bolt on to the grab rail or the side of the bike that gives me a little more surface to push against.. Any suggestions?
  8. The wife says I have to practice with the bow before going into the woods even though I can hit a cup sized object at 30 yrds. With 72lb. pull, peepe sites and mechanical release it's almost like shooting a gun. Of course she's right as shooting from a seated position is a lot different than from a standing position(i hunt in a blind).. In fact taking a 100+ yrd. shot with my 30-06 180 gr. is just as challanging if not more... Good luck! Just don't shoot anything with a red nose or there'll be a lot of dissapointed kids... And remember:
  9. First off Penny and I have been praying for Ponch, Lil bit and family "like everyone else" for a while now, and it appears to be working! OUTSTANDING! Did they ever conclusively deduce what happened to Ponch to cause this accident? Reason I'm asking is, took Mom and Aunt Mary to Dr's yesterday and after telling the Dr. about the spell she had in Wallmart last week (weakness, disorentation, loss of balance etc ) he told her she had a Hypo-glycemia(sugar crash) Said she couldn't drive a car for a while till she got it under control. She is suppose to eat 5 meals a day mostly protein with a severe restriction on carbs... Hopefully it's something simple to correct...
  10. "I totally disagree with that statement. When done legally and within the limits of the law as I did in CA it keeps a lot of bikers from getting runtover by cagers talking on their cell phones or doing their hair or makeup or what ever. I did it for ten years in CA always within the limits of the law. And I know of at least once I didn't get creamed from behind cause the moron hit the car next to me while I was splitting lanes. " First of all we're talking about the video... he was wreckless driving, weaving, riding on the wrong side of the rode into oncomming traffic... not to mention speeding and countless others... Second of all haven't you been reading about the lane splitting near misses posted here recently? Third I agree with Smalltowntx "People will abuse it. " Just how many people do you know that follow of rules to the letter? people would not use their turn signals(they don't now), they would definately speed and since the poor guy in the front is just sitting there he has no idea what the guys intentions are behind him. You'd end up with more accidents. Even though it would be that guys fault, would you really care if you were on a bike and got hit from behind at 40 mph? Nope you'd just be dead... Forth would be I'm aware of my surroundings at all times, if someone is comming up behind me i always have an escape plan... regardless of wether it's legal or not I don;t need a lane splitting law for that. I will move the bike to protect myself and my passenger PERIOD... But youll never see me lane splitting between 20 nd 50 mph faster than the flow of traffic ... thats just asking for trouble... The other problem I have with it, is the BUTTING IN LINE factor... You're sitting in traffic for a long time and all these people are passing you getting ahead of you so when you finally get moving it will be at a slower pace? H3## No! Talk about fanning the flames of road rage.... Totally against lane splitting and think that video is extreemely disturbing.... regardless of the fact it was apparently shot in Moscow...
  11. "Would like to see him try to "split lanes with my dump truck or 3/4 pickup", cause i will not move :whistling:" Thats not blocking a road ...its keeping whats mine mine. My trucks take up the whole lane. Are you expecting me to move out of the way because some idiot is speeding and driving wrecklessly? It's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN... You'll change your tune when you get run off the road as others have here, or worse, hit as your minding your own business, in your own lane... Lane splitting is not a good idea regardless what state you happen to be in.
  12. "You only get one doing this! " Agreed! ya better choose your line carefully as you don't have an engine for Climbing corrections... the one got pretty close to that pine tree... almost a splat!, like a bug on a windshield. To old for that
  13. Anyone beside me just hoping the police would pull this jerk over and tear up his drivers license? I personally don't care if he...correction..."WHEN" he gets killed. I just hope his dumb a$$ doesn't take someone with him... Would like to see him try to "split lanes with my dump truck or 3/4 pickup", cause i will not move Who would want his organs anyway? There is something definately wrong with that guy.
  14. Depends on if your bottoming them out and how rough of roads you were traveling... I trailered my bike to Cody, Wy... 3 days out 3 days back probably took the front end down 1 1/2 - 2" inch with ratcheting straps and about 1" in the back with no problems. Can gaurentee you one thing though... if you don't get that front end down enough your bike will fall over... When strapping down dirt bikes i never strapped back but always compressed front around 3" ...
  15. Always change mine when they get down to 3/32nds tread depth. 3/32" nds is the gap on a penny, between Lincolns head and the edge. It won't pass inspection past this point and quite frankly it's not worth my life for a $150 rear $114 front.
  16. Good luck on collectin the "monies due"... You do know, some people believe, the quickest way out of a recesion is a war? We're currently in two, but since we're rebuilding both countrys, it's draining our coffers. Maybe three is a luck number... You do know I'm just pulling you leg... England is one of Americas strongest allies... Perhaps Iran could be No#3?
  17. Logically, if one has kept their virginity the entire time they were on Earth, why would others "assume" that they were going to change their ways in the afterlife? Can you imagine living with 52 sexually frustrated women? Think I'll pass on that one...
  18. First of all, when your dealin with larger boats your talkin about gallons per mile...not miles per gallon...LOL "Eileen has already decided that we are going to do this again sometime next spring. If we do, I would really like to drag a fishing boat down there to have along side the house boat. " When you do, you must be careful the fishing boat doesn't marr or otherwise hit your houseboat. I had a homeade device for hauling my jet ski on the back of a pontoon boat that connected to the rings on top of each pontoon. They were 13' long and formed a "V". If I had to stop abruptly the PWC would swing around and still be 3' away from the back of the boat... Used them when i rented pontoon boats so my daughter could play on the jet ski while the old folk putted arond. Gave them to my brother-in-law as a gift... Need to make up another pair. Cost was under $100 and consisted of 30' of 1/4" SS cable, (2) 13' sections of schedule 40, (2) cans of the $10 a can window and door foam, (3) SS 3" carbiners (3) press cable collars or (6) SS u clamp... If i can find the plans will send them in a post, Water hole/ Towing boats on the water safely. Just make sure you take aforementioned along or the place you rent the houseboat has a way to tow your fishing boat, as a rope... just aint gonna work... You don't want to pay for damage to either craft.
  19. Very glad to see you both had a chance to unwind.... My 2005 RXP can gobble $45 of gas in 3 hours... but hey...it's worth it. Where can you have that much fun for $15 an hour? Would like to buy a 24-26' Pontoon boat with a 60 hp Honda engine, with trailer .. Now that my friend will allow you to cruise around all day for $45 as you can just pull up to your favorite gas station and not use the extreemely high priced marina gas. Hey, ya can't take it with ya
  20. They will be in Penny and I's thoughts and prayers...
  21. When riding alone, the further you are from the yellow line the more danger you put yourself in. People will cut you off and try to share your lane... its just a fact of life... there are jerks amongst us that like living on the bleeding edge... Just my 2 cents...
  22. Penny and I will be praying for your mom and family.
  23. I'd like to see/try one on a second gen. I get hot due to wearing mesh jacket and pants. Last year I installed (2) of the larger round aircraft spruce vents along with a 1800 Goldwing vent. This made it somewhat better, but, the only way to truly increase the airflow is to get rid of/lower the windshield.... Would like to hear more on this idea... at $169? seems to be a real bargain... Can't remember whos bike it was, Toms? or maybe Ecks? Goldwing that had the large "accessory" side vents that pulled a large volume of air from the front of the bike and literally blasted the driver. To bad there is no such a thing for ventures...
  24. Buy some spray on foot powder and get a 100 watt trouble light .... Thats how I found the oring gasket leaks on my carb bowls... Just spray under the tank (starting with the bottom of your tank around petcock) then the carbs. If it isn't powedry white...that's where your leak is........ Good Hunting!
  25. Well since Some of you could be offended, I shall refrain, from stating the most obvious reason, for a Hillbilly to own such a fine farm animal/COW-A-SOCKY. Signed, CaptainJoe, Your neighboring Hillbilly, here in West by God!! Although... You gotta admit, she's lookin Mighty Purdy!
