  1. Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a gps. I am wondering which ones you guys have, the features you like, prices etc. basically what should I be looking for. Thanks, Mel
  2. LOL!!! So we sold our Honda yesterday Got what we wanted for it so that's great. Got my armrests from Diamond R Friday and got them installed. They're great. Got something rigged up for my boards (passenger) so that I basically have highway pegs as a passenger. I can put my feet out to cool them off in the breeze as well as basically have more room to have different positions for my feet to help shift around as we go. So now I'm all set!!! Thanks for everyone's patience helping me figure things out, where to get stuff, etc. We went for a seven hour ride yesterday and it was AWESOME!! Beautiful weather and, now that I have all my accessories, cool feet! It was great!! My back was bugging me, too, without the armrests for support, especially in rough areas, so I'm happy now!!
  3. As some of you know, I haven't posted as much over the last few weeks as I normally do. There is just way too much going on right now and it just seems that there are not enough hours in the day. Hopefully things will get back to normal in the near future but until then, I apologize that I'm not doing more here. As those of you who attended the Cody rally know, Eileen and I ended up cancelling the trip. We were really looking forward to it because due to my own illness over the past 3 years and other family illnesses before then, we have not done a decent bike ride in several years. I sometimes feel that we should just give up and sell the bike. I'm NOT going to do that though and will just hope that next year is finally back to normal. Whatever normal is now. Some of you know that Eileen lost her mother and her sister to cancer over the past 5 years. She took care of both of them during their illness and in fact we had built the little guest house so that her sister could live out here beside us and Eileen could take care of her and spend time with her while allowing Connie to retain some of her independence. It was a very difficult time for Eileen but she did well and it was something that she had to do. Almost immediately after Connie passed away, we found that Eileen's mother also had cancer. It wasn't as emotionally draining but still bad and then she passed away about a year later. Then of course I had my own ordeal wth the nasty disease that the intitial treatments and then complications last summer pretty much took away two more years of any real riding. We though that this summer would be ours again. It was not to be though. We find out a while back that Eileen's sister in law, her brothers wife that lives in Dallas, has cancer. This is the only adult member left in Eileen's family and Dolores is more like a sister than a sister-in-law to her. She has spent the past months going through all the usual treatments and then various clinical trials but basically, nothing worked. Eileen ended up going to Dallas during the time that we were scheduled to be in Cody so we had to cancel that trip. Then we had planned to go to Vogel or Big Tom's WNY rally this weekend but that's not happening either. Dolores has made a turn for the worse and they have basically given up on any treatments. She was in the hospital last week while they tried to stabilize her and basically just make her more comfortable. She is back home now and it is just a matter of time. Probably only a few days. It's really sad because this lady is only about 48 years old and has always been very health conscious. So, Eileen is flying to Dallas again tomorrow in order to be there to help her as much as she can and basically just spend a few final days with her. It is going to be a very difficult time for Eileen as well as her brother in Dallas and their two sons. The sons are older now, 19 and 22 I think but still taking it very hard. There is nothing that anybody can do but I simply ask that you keep Eileen in your thoughts and prayers and that Dolores will find some comfort and peace in her final days. Again, I apologize that we have been MIA from all the regular events this summer but hopefully things will be better next year.
  4. Just wondering if anyone has a part bike or something where I could get these plastic parts. Attached is a picture, I can look through the part diagrams for the numbers if it would help. Basically the plastic that the CLASS and CB sit on. 89 VR Thanks!
  5. Thought you guys would like to see my old 81 Venturer...this is the way I got it. Someone removed all the Pacifico touring but left the stock seat. The old "Excess" 1100s...what a ride. http://www.timemachinewatch.com/buy/venturer81.JPG What I like about Yamaha in general is they don't change much from year to year for the most part. Except for paint, my 2001 is basically the same as a 10. That helps Yamaha with tooling costs, as well as the riders who can get an 8-9 year old bike that is still current. Ride Safe!
  6. About a week ago I saw this WOOT item that converts older VCR tapes into .mpg files on the computor. It'll also burn the file to a DVD compatable. And the price was $29.95. So since we have a lot of classic tapes, I said 'what the heck' and bought one. It's basically a VCP with a USB plug, and some pretty neat software. ION VCR 2 PC And it works!! The only problem I'm finding with it is it doesn't work very fast. I basically have to view and record the tape in real time, but I can still let it to it's thing in the background while surfing. I just got through converting Star Wars 3 tape series.
  7. I'm looking for a old Verizon phone, the idea is to activate a new line on my account and transfer my business landline to it to save some $$$. The phone needs to be able to make one (yep, one) call, and one call only as I plan on routing all traffic to my cell phone. After that, the screen can go blank, the battery c an die, the keys can get stuck and anyting else that can go wrong. Since I am doing this the "frugal way" anyone within, say SC, western NC, Northern Ga or eastern TN, preferred so I can basically get it at one of the M&E's. that don't work I suppose a padded enveloppe would work too. I can get a $20 phone from Verizon but don't want to sign a contract. If you have one, or know someone who has one; great! If not, Oh well!!
  8. Since we got there on Friday, her picture taking started around 4 that afternoon. Again only a few pics for basically a day and a half. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20Vogel%2020090815/
  9. I've been trying for 3 straight days to call Clearview and keep getting their answwering machine. They did return an e-mail after 24 hours but basically it said to call them. Anyone else have this kind of problem contacting Clearview Shields? Makes me a little cautious on using them.
  10. Just wondering if any of you live close to the Lexington, KY horse farm area. We rode with a group to that area about 5-6 years ago and just cruised some of the back roads and took in the beautiful horse farms (with barns that put most mansions to shame!). We also toured the Keeneland (?) race track. Anyway, I'm thinking of putting together a little ride for some friends (and anyone else who would want to meet up) this spring back to that area. When I was there before someone else was leading and I basically paid no attention to the routes we took. Anyone have any suggestions of roads/routes that we just shouldn't miss? Any other things we should see while we're there? Thanks, Joe
  11. Drove to TX to get the trailer, Bought the bike, made the hitch, wired the bike, rewired the trailer, and tonight was the first night of getting them together. Basically about a 2 month process... IT'S DONE THOUGH!!! I was surprised at how well it pulled.. ..
  12. Guest

    Just got back...

Did a little 4 day run...did not take a lot of pics, but I had a great time in a great part of the country... Will post the pics...and if you can guess the location of the pic I will buy you a beer when we meet up. Lets hope this works. http://bigjohnd.smugmug.com/photos/382790080_dL9Af-M.jpg http://bigjohnd.smugmug.com/photos/382790084_rMnxu-M.jpg http://bigjohnd.smugmug.com/photos/382790087_aYUeP-M.jpg http://bigjohnd.smugmug.com/photos/382790102_jbp2G-M.jpg The first three are of basically the same place...just different angles. The last one is another place on the ride...you can see where I am going way off down the bottom of the canyon.... Enjoy...I sure did...I regret not taking more...but I was having way to much fun riding.
  13. OK...here's the problem. The chat is hosted on a remote server. I did that long ago so as not to put any extra load on this one. It is remotely hosted but connects to our database on this server to authenticate users. Now because all the databases are different on the new server, it will have to be re-configured on the other end. Basically that means a new installation on the remote server. It is working now because I still have the files up and running on the old server. It will be next week before the remote server is reconfigured to communicate with the database here. So why does any of this matter? The problem will be that any new members that sign up now won't be included in the old database so won't be able to get authenticated on the chat server. I THINK though that you can sign in as a guest. Let me know if you have any issues with the Chat. It is going to be a bit confusing for me for the next few days while I basically have both servers up and trying to figure out what info is being pulled from where.
