  1. Thanks for posting the pictures of the Goldwing. I saw what was on Hondas' website but actual pictures like yours are always informative. i personally like the styling changes although I think the bags on my cross country are bigger. As for the two "ahem" gentlemen in the photos....you did deny any knowledge of them didn't you ??!!!! I'm SURE everyone was just sooooo amused by their antics on the poster !!
  2. Yeah, it was in the 70ws both saturday and Sunday. Rode up into Alabama to meet my son and then we both rode back down here. Rode all day yesterday too. But I have to admit this was the first time I got to ride since----------last friday. Dang work and rain keeps interfering with my riding. As for hot, yeah we get that down here also. Sometimes July and always August is just too darn hot to ride, Unless I ride at night and then I have to contend with the bugs and the deer. But at least I don't have to hook my bike up to a battery tender and no chance of the tires going low due to lack of use. Sooooooo, go ahead and put me on your list !!!. I've already put all you yankees on my list !!!!!!
  3. Why can't they get someone that knows the words and can sing the anthem and not scream it ??? The girl from Glee did a fantastic job !! She should have sung the anthem !!!! As for the half time show----used that time to "relieve" myself of the noise on the tube and dinner !!
  4. OK, you know the rules--where are the pics ????????? Why do we have to keep reminding these people !!!!! Congrats and enjoy !!!!
  5. I agree with the comment, "they don't get the respect for what they do" to a point. MOST LEOs are really good guys who work hard at keeping us safe, but unfortunately there are a few who put a sour taste in your mouth for all of them. Driving charter buses down here for so long I have been involved in all sorts of special events where I had police escorts or ride-alongs for security. Most officers are cordial but keep an emotional distance. But I have had a few that seem to be on a power trip and are downright a$$holes. Then there are the DOT inspectors who couldn't smile if their life depended on it. I was watching the news yesterday and saw where one town in New Jersey was laying off 160 officers, and another that had let 100 go. That will be real good news to the criminal element in those areas. If I lived there I would be packing every place I went. I guess its going to be more and more up to the citizens to protect themselves and their property. Works for me-----just don't try to drag me in to court after I shoot someone trying to break into my house or steal my car. Thank goodness they changed the law here in Mississippi; We don't have to drag the body in the house anymore !! My prayers go out to the family of your fallen officer. !!!!
  6. Get er done Steve, and get well quick. Our best wishes go out to you !!!!!!
  7. Prayers and best wishes sent. Keep us posted, and don't take no crap from the doctors. They are there to help you, not just to collect money !!!!
  8. Had a 99 and an 06 Venture. Loved them both but when the 06 was totalled and Yamaha didn't change anything I went to an 08 GW airbagger. Loved that bike almost as much as my RSVs. But when the Wing was totaled I wasn't going to get another bike. But after about 8 months I started looking and was just about to bite the bullet on the price of an 09 airbagger when I saw the new Victory Cross Country. Test rode a Cross Roads (same bike minus the fairing) and was hooked. The CR doesn't have all the comforts of the Wing but it's a lot lighter, easier to handle at low speeds, has lots of power and torque and is way cheaper. The saddle bags are as big as the RSVs and I like the seating position a lot more than the Wing. Guages are easy to read and it has a killer stereo. Someday I may spring for the trunk but for now I don't need it or really want it. I also was looking at the BMW LT at one time but the nearest dealer is in Baton Rouge and after the little run-in I had with the owner I would rather walk than buy a bike from her. If you want a full dresser I would choose the Wing but if you don't need a full dresser give the Victory Cross Country a look. And it's not as radical in looks as the Vision !!
  9. I envy you also. I miss the white Christmas' we used to have in Oregon. But for sure the people down here couldn't handle it. The roads would be one big parking lot or junk yard !! hope everyone had a Merry Holiday, and here's wishing all a great New Year !!!
  10. I thought long and hard before buying my Cross Country. I've had two Ventures and most recently a 2008 airbag Goldwing which I really liked. I loved both of my Ventures but wanted more from Yamaha and they wouldn't provide it. But after the Goldwing was totaled and my wife finally gave me the go-ahead for another bike (after almost a year) I didn't want to spend the required amount for another GW and I also wanted a more traditional style bike. I ALMOST went back to the Yamaha until I saw the Victory. After I rode a Cross Roads I ordered my Cross Country, which is basically the same bike. And I haven't looked back since !! I have also ridden the Vision but again, didn't want a full touring bike. The Cross Country has the seating position of the Venture, has plenty of power, especially down low, and is very nimble for its size. Victory did a great job getting the wieght down low. Did you know the battery is in front of the engine behind the front engine cover ? The Cross Country has a true 6 speed tranny. 6th gear isn't needed until you get above a sustained 60 mph, and then drops the RPMs by at least 500. Likewise, if you want you can drag the speed down to like 30mph in 5th gear, and just roll on and you have plenty of torque to get going again. No, I don't do that regularly but it's possible. Someone mentioned the "clunking" noise when you shift. Yes, when shifting into first and second there is a "clunk" but have you ridden a Harley lately ? Same clunk ! It just tells me that I am indeed in the desired gear. Not hurting anything down there. And on the 2011 they put in something to make shifting into neutral easier. Big difference between my 2011 and the 2010 Cross Roads I tested. Speaking of HD the Victory does NOT shake at idle. There is just a slight hint of vibration but it disappears as soon as you get going. At speed the bike is smooth. No, it's not as smooth as a Venture or GW but then again it has these two massive pistons jumping up and down. What do you expect !! The Victory is 106 cu. inch, with more HP and torque of the HD. I love going up through the gears keeping the revs below 3 grand. And it sounds like a motorcycle. The seating position is great, the guages are high and easy to read unlike the HD Ultra (for me !!) I can't comment on passenger room as I haven't had a passenger on the bike yet, but I did add a backrest for the passenger. And lastly the saddlebags are huge, unlike the Vision bags. But there is no trunk although one is available equipped with speakers and tail light and quick disconnect. But at $1400 I won't be adding that anytime soon. If I do a long trip I'll think about it. All in all I am VERY satisfied with the Cross Country. And it was almost 3 grand cheaper than a HD Streetglide and 5 grand less than a GW. If Yamaha updates the Venture I would consider trading, but it would have to be a complete update !!
  11. I think that's one of the best looking trikes I've seen. It just looks like what I think a trike should look like. Looks like it's in excellent shape although it's hard to tell in a picture. The only thing that would make it look better is if it were the OTHER 99 color---bordeaux/silver !! That's what I had and it's still my favorite color. Good luck to you and have many happy miles. ps. I know about the daughters riding with you. Ain't it grand !!!!!!

    How

Well, you all left the door open long enough for that cold air to get way down here to southern Mississippi. I think the high yesterday was only 48 and it was a chilly 26 this morning at 6am when I got to work. But, knowing how things go down here it will probably be in the 80s for Christmas. It's not only unpredictable, it sucks !! Stay warm or stay cold, I don't care. Just stay one way !!!!!
  13. Yeah, that place is in Kansas. My son and I happened upon it in 2000 on our trip to Oregon. The guy that owns the property charges a fee for you to put up a sign. Most of the signs he makes according to your wishes and then puts it up. You can even write to him and order the sign, or at least you used to be able to. That was 10 years ago. No holds barred; if you look and read the signs carefully you will see ALL kinds of language. There used to be one for hillary Clinton---f-ing whore !! We spent about an hour ready all the signs. Don't remember the highway number but its out of Wichita on the way to Dodge City. Too cool !!!!!
  14. Yeah, what he said !!!!!!
  15. Chop the top, french the tail lights, and put fender skirts on it. Oh yeah, don't forget the spinner hubcaps.
  16. No problem here ! I'm off and I ain't going !! The wife has to work. And I get the blame for EVERYTHING, including what the dog does !!!!
  17. I guess I had something else on my mind besides motorcycles. I thought he was trying to build a helicopter. Woe is me !!!
  18. I know you've heard this numerus times already but calling Yamaha in California will get results. When I first got my 99 and had a horrendous gear whine, and my dealer would do nothing I called Yamaha. At first they didn't want to do anything stating that the gears WILL make noise because of their design and there was nothing that could be done. Persistance and the threat of a class action suit because many of us on the forum (the other forum) were having the same problem. Then I got a call from the District Rep in Atlanta asking me when I could bring the bike in. We arranged a date at the dealer in Hattiesburg; he showed up with 4 clutch baskets and we got the whine down to a respectable and tolerable level. The next problem I had was the radio. When I called them from Ok City they called the dealer there who removed the radio from a new Venture on the showroom floor and put it on my bike. Problem solved. Moral to the story--the squeaky wheel gets the grease. You have an iron clad 5 year warranty with virtually no limitations. They MUST fix your bike or replace it. I know this has been done in the past so keep after them. I know it's an inconvenience for you but it's also your hard earned money that paid for the bike. You deserve to have a safe, reliable motorcycle. That's what you were supposed to be buying. Good luck and stay the course !!!!
  19. Since he said "black cherry" I would assume he has an 06. As for the price I bought my pads for my 99 way back for like $35 a set. Since my last bike was a GW and this one is a Victory, I haven't had any dealings with Yamaha for years. I still say the 2nd gen is the best touring bike on the road out of the crate but way behind the times and dealer support is really lacking. Took my Cross Country in for its first service and was in and out in 2 hours. And that included the time for him mount and hook up my new aftermarket horn. Unlike the dealer in Jackson he only handles Victory and Polaris products, and George the manager, along with the mechanic are great. Next time you're out cruising stop by the Victory dealer in Loxley Alabama. Oh yeah, the Victory is one kick a$$ motorcycle. And I don't say things like this very often !!
  20. Wish I had known you were in Branson; I was on charter there from the first until friday morning. We stayed at the Scenic Hills Inn on Shepard of the Hills Parkway just below Shoji's place. The weather was great...for me anyway. Some of the people thought it was a little cold, but I loved it. Had a great time. I am thinking seriously of going back up on the bike this thursday, or else to the Dragon. I also like going to Eureka Springs, just to lay around and relax. Of course it all depends on the weather. I am off thursday through Sunday. WHat shows did you go see. I was really disappointed in Shoji's show.....prety much the same as last year. Hope you have a good time !!
  21. Did a charter to NYC in 2000. Since we drove straight through from Mississippi we had to have two drivers. Randy drove in to Manhatten the first day. The kids stayed at a hotel there but we had to stay in Jersey because of parking. The next day was my turn to drive and I'm not afraid to say that I was scared. But actually other than being very conjected it was easier than driving in Atlanta. Contrary to popular belief the taxis were very couteous, and helpful. It was the private drivers that were a royal pain in the a$$. One lady tried to cut inside me when I was making a right turn. I was half in the intersection and had to stop to keep from hitting her. The cop walked over, had her pull up on the sidewalk so I could go, and proceeded to write her a ticket. To be honest I had a good time driving there. Spent four days there and after the first day Randy didn't want to drive anymore. My wife, daughter and I went to NYC in 2004 on our way driving down the east coast. We spent two days in NYC, and stayed at the Marriott there on Times Square. Used the subway that trip---didn't drive. Had a good time. Bought an umbrella from a guy right outside the hotel. Figured it would fall apart in a day. I still have it in my truck today. Do I want to go back------eh maybe !!
  22. Man, I know what you mean about "winter", but I am actually looking forward to it here. But I must admit these "Fall" temps are chilling. It was a really chilly 49 F. this morning, and they're forcasting for a cool high of 73 F today. Don't know if I can wait until 4:30 to ride today. Might have to take off at noon before it gets too hot !!!
  23. A number of years ago I was working in Nashua NH and had ridden my RSV equipped with BUBs to NH. One weekend Chick, a friend, led me on a ride to and up the coast. As we rounded a curve near the coast he called me on the radio and told me to "idle" it. As I came out of the curve I saw a couple of cops that had a few bikes pulled over on the side of the road. We slowly rode by and after passing them Chick told me on the radio that it was a "noise" checkpoint. He said that even BUBs, which compared to most Harleys, were NOT loud, could get you a ticket. He also had after market pipes about the same loudness as BUBs and said he had to be careful mainly on the coast. OK, if NH can enforce an existing noise level law, why can't California, if there is really a law already on the books ????????????????? Here in the Biloxi/Gulfport area there are a lot of bikes with loud pipes. A couple just moved in three doors down from me and he rides what I think is a Big Dog custom, with very loud pipes. I was out talking to my neigbor one day when he rode by and I commented that his pipes were very obnoxious. But the police are doing very little about loud bikes but they will give you a ticket in a heartbeat for a loud stereo, to the tune of $1000. Enforcement is all about what the public complains most about. Down here it's the car stereos that you can hear a mile away. The bikes are loud but it's not a constant thing so people put up with it. My new Victory has Stage One exhausts but they are no louder than BUBs on an RSV.
  24. If you would have been on a 2nd Gen you wouldn't have had to drop to a lower gear, just roll on the throttle. But hey, I can understand the need on those older machines !!!!
  25. And I thought I was the only one to abuse a Venture ! so glad you and the misses are ok. Looking at your pictures and remembering what my 06 looked like I can see where they totaled it. As for the Goldwing, very good choice. I really miss mine (totaled) but I really like my new Victory. As for deals give the dealer (can't remember their name ) in Corinth Ms. a call and ask if he can get an 08, or 09 if you're ok with it. They have the best prices I have found next to my local dealer. And you can't get a deal with them since Brian left. Corinth will beat any price you get from Searcy Arkansas or Russellville Arkansas. I was headed their way when I saw the Victory. Good luck to you !!!
