My RSTD custom project (Caution, nekkidness inside)
rsstar replied to Sunman's topic in Watering Hole
While you're putting it back together I hope you spend a little $$ for a new rear tire. I would hate to see you take the new paint job for a ride and crash because of the tire !!! Good luck !! -
Nice trailer !! Looks just like the one that originated in Sweden a few years ago and made its way over to this continent. Can you put a cooler rack on the tongue??
-
Holy Crap Eck !!!!! When did that happen????? As I have never made it to any meets n eats I'm not sure what you been riding. That looks worse than what my 06 looked like when I crashed in WVa. Hope you are ok.

Congrats on the new bike. The new Ultras are supposed to be much improved from the 08s. I looked at the Harleys and came real close to buying. Had all the paperwork filled out, then I went for my second test ride, on the bike I was going to buy. It was nice but I just didn't feel completely comfortable....hard to explain. Went with an 08 Wing airbag model, which only lasted for 2400 miles before we got hit. So now I ride an 04 redline red SSR, but I still visit this site and hope to make some meets this year. Like everyone has already said, you NEED to stay around. Good luck with the new ride!!!!

I've had two Ventures and most recently a 2008 Goldwing. Lost my 99 RSV to Katrina when our house was flooded. Wrecked my 06 RSV in WV last year when another biker pulled out in front of me. Lost the Wing this past September when I was broadsided by a lady who ran a red light. I loved both of my Ventures very much. Put 58k on the 99; ran it from Portland Maine to Portland Oregon. Only had 18k on the 06. When I lost it I decided it was time for a change and after much looking and head scratching I settled on the Wing, airbag model. That was an awesome bike. Didn't take long to get used to the riding position and was, overall, very comfortable. A tad more leg room would have been nice but I was VERY happy with it. If I were to get another bike right now it would be a Wing. But after two accidents in one year, with a quadruple bypass in between, I have decided, with the insistance of my wife, to give up bikes. I still love them but I just don't want to tempt fate. If you decide on the Venture I don't think you will be sorry. It is definitely the classiest looking bike of the bunch, and very comfortable and reliable. But whatever your choice, good luck and happy riding !!!

I was really hoping to see the snow but it didn't make it to Biloxi/Gulfport. They say it snowed in Bay St. Louis, 20 miles to the east. The system was traveling northeast. we could see it on the Radar here at the airport. When I want to see it, it never snows. Really miss the Oregon winters. Well, just the snow around Christmas time. By the way, I have a set of studded snow tires off my 80 Mercedez I lost in Katrina. Still on Mercedez rims. Can't even give them away down here.

Good for you Dan !!! I know what it's like to crash, and how you feel after !! if it still puts a smile on your face and you are comfortable, then that's what you should be doing. Unfortunately for me, as much as I want another bike, the "worried feeling" has been much worse after this last accident. Add to that my wife's extreme negativity and the answer, for me, is no more bikes. But I did drive the SSR today with the top down and got a pretty good grin going. So, life is still good, just in a different way !!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS, and Good Luck !!!!!

Even though I have purchased the SSR since they totaled my 08 wing I still want another bike. But after two accidents (not my fault) in one year, and quadruple bypass surgery in between, I figured I should lay off for awhile. I was talking with the wife last night and mentioned I really wanted another bike. She said," If you get another motorcycle I think I would have to leave you. I just don't want to get another call like the two I've received, or worse. Yes, I would leave !" Now I know there are some out there saying, "YES", get the bike. But after 39 years my love for my wife far exceeds my love for motorcycles. She is probably saving my life, with the luck I've been having !!!!

Sounds just like the banks did to get that mortgages. Let them who done wrong go under. Why should my tax money help a bank that was greedy or a person who KNOWLINGLY took on a mortgage they could not afford. No tears being shed here. By the way, dontcha think the 0% financing by the auto industry had something to do with the trouble they have now????? As I said, no tears here!!! Let them eat cake!!!!!!

As I sit here reading your posts about snow I am looking out the window at the sunrise and see absolutely NO CLOUDS in the sky. Temp this morning was around 32, maybe a little colder. The truck had frost on it, but temps are supposed to be in the 60s for the day. Since I can't ride or drive the weather has been absolutely perfect. I expect the day after I get this boot off it will start raining and continue for 40 days and 40 nights. Wife was gone to Louisiana for the weekend so yesterday I decided to clean the garage. Moved her car and the SSR out and cleaned the garage. Then I took this boot off and drove the SSR, for the first time, around the neighborhood. Man, it was shear joy !!! Next week I go see the Doc and hopefully get the boot off for good. But like I said, then the weather will turn s%&$$# and I won't be able to drive the SSR. All I can do is hope !!! Speaking of hope, HOPEFULLY you all won't get too much snow.

I agree with you about signs out but no work for 6 months. since i work for the FAA and the Academy is in Ok. City I have traveled a lot to Oklahoma. Most places I've seen in other states (including Ms.) the signs say,"speeding fines doubled when workers present". But if I don't see that sign I definitely slow down. I figure all the states will be looking to easily increase their revenue with this lousy economy. Louisiana HP is patroling areas they NEVER patroled in the past. And believe it or not Ms. HP is patoling I10 !! Will wonders never cease. So, all you Floridian leadfoots, BEWARE !!!!

If you are staying in Eureka Springs, there isn't much for kids except the swimming pool at the motel. But, as Cindy posted there is a LOT for kids in Branson, from go carts to a big water park right on the strip (76). Then there's always Silver Dollar City which has some amusment rides. There is also an amusement park at the west end of the strip just before you head up the hill towards Silver Dollar City. No trip to Branson would be complete without a ride on the "Ducks", the amphibious vehicles, which drive to and into Tablerock lake. In downtown Branson is the train, which is a nice hour long ride. (approx 30 minutes each way). The ride from Eureka Springs to Branson is very nice and a "should do" bike ride. I have spent a lot of time in both places and although Branson has more to do I like the relaxing atmosphere of Eureka Springs. Depending on when the rally is I would like to try and make it. But I'll be in a cage since I have given up bikes for now.

When I went looking for a new bike anti lock brakes was one thing I really wanted. And then when I saw the airbag model Wing, I knew what I wanted. I had read a report about the airbag saving a guy in Florida; but that's not the main reason I wanted the airbag. I liked the clean look of the false tank area with the radio controls moved to the left side of the fairing. Well, all the safety features in the world won't help you if you get BROAD-SIDED!! But I still think the anti-lock brakes and the airbag are life savers for bikes!!!!!

Like Carbon One said, get your dealer to replace it under warranty. I had the one on my 99 replaced. Didn't have to call the district rep, just threatened to and the dealer ordered me a new one. Sometimes you have to give dealers a little "push" to get them to do their job. I love to "push".

Congratulations on the beautiful new bike. I know exactly how you feel about the 06 RSV. I had a black cherry 06 also. But after losing two of them (99 & 06) I was ready for a change. I was headed that way before I got the Goldwing. I just wasn't as comfortable on the Ultra. As for the "oil" I think that's the whatever they have under the sidestand. As for leaving this site, I'll tell you what I've just been told.....NOT GOING TO HAPPEN !! At least you're staying with two wheels. I'm going to 4 for a time. Again, best of luck with your new ride......and enjoy !!!!!!!

Thanks to all of you for your kind words of friendship and encouragement. I wish I didn't have to work and then I could spend all my time traveling this great country of ours and meeting all you fine people. And that goes for all our northern friends also. But unfortunately I can't so I will take your advice and attend functions as I can inmy new to me ride. I still love motorcycles and riding but my body needs to heal from all its been through this past year. Besides, the boss is the one that said no more bikes and she carries a big stick. i can understand her feelings so I will heed her wishes. I am so moved by all your words of friendship and encouragement and look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the future. Thanks again, and to all please Ride Safe !!!!!

Can't remember if I posted this here already but if I did I apologize for the repeat. First weekend of September the weather was right and I was feeling pretty good since my quadruple bypass so I decided to take my first multi day ride with the new Wing. Road up to Montgomery and spent the night. Next morning I headed south on Hwy 26, a really nice road that I had driven back in the Spring with the bus. Got down to a town called Union Springs and as I was going through the main intersection of this small town a lady ran the red light and broad-sided me on the right. Luckily she wasn't going very fast; unfortunately she was going fast enough to break both my tibia and fiblia and dislocate my ankle. Needless to say my beautiful new Wing was torn up. I was taken to Montgomery for surgery, and long story short, I have been in a cast since. Doc says two more weeks, then we'll see. Me being a diabetic he's being very cautious with me. After a long talk with the insurance company I convinced them to total the Wing. Repair estimate was $14,000. I have received my money for the bike but purchasing another is NOT in my immediate future. After two accidents in less than a year, even though neither was my fault I am calling it quits as far as riding is concerned. I've lost two beautiful machines and my body hasn't healed/been corrected completely from the first accident. This problem really scares me and I am praying that all will heal properly. I have already replaced the bike....with a 2004 Chevy SSR. It only has a little over 15k and is absolutely immaculate. It's a convertible, which I wanted, and also a hardtop. Unfortunately I cannot drive yet and it's killing me to see it sitting in the garage. But hopefully, only 2 more weeks. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to all here, especially those fine people that I have had the privelege to meet through this site. I haven't been able to attend the ride-ins and meets that I wanted to but am hoping that I can in the future. Although I am not riding now I hope you all will allow me to stay around the site. If not I understand. I still love motorcycling and would give almost anything to get on another. But I need time to heal from ALL the stuff I've had in the past year. So to all I say please ride safe. And watch out for Dodge SUVs. !!!!!!!!

If they are regular bulbs you can go to any truck stop and get the little colored rubber covers for the bulbs. I call them light condoms. Used them a lot in trucks and buses. If they ARE leds, and you want to change them, and have the equipment/knowledge you can easily get colored single leds. Lots of places on the web that sell them. Try Custom Dynamics for a starter.

Glad you had a good time. Good looking bike. Unfortunately my memories of Fayetteville are not quite as good. That's where I had my accident last year, and it was a Harley that pulled out in front of me. But I did enjoy the bridge and the ride down to the river on the old, old road. And the deinner at the Barbeque place there was excellent.

You all ain't seen nothing. You need to come down here and see the race for dumbest driver between the Louisiana and Florida drivers. Louisiana has the lead but Florida is definitely trying to catch up.

What is it with the black cherry RSVs. Including mine last year, I have seen more black cherry's wrecked in the past year than any other color. I guess it's true; they are just so darned fast they try to fly, and we're not pilots !!! So glad you are on the mend. Looks like the bike can be fixed. Good luck !!

Very glad you are ok Wayne. I doubt that I would have been able to react with the same positive results. But, I have to agree with Condor; 60mph on a 4 lane coming to an intersection??? I'm NOT judging you, please don't get me wrong. I have no right to judge. But maybe your tardiness clouded YOUR judgement a little, and maybe this was your morning coffee to open your eyes and clear your head. You are a very lucky man. Unfortunately, my wake-up call was in NO way my fault.....but it opened my eyes to the realization that I don't need to be riding anymore!!!! God speed and Good luck!!!

I've had 2 RSVs and a 2008 Goldwing. Although my time on the Goldwing was cut short I think I can honestly and with some expertise, say that both bikes are great but if I was going to buy another bike it would be the Goldwing. I was also afraid of the seating position with the pegs after having those great floorboards for so long but it only took me a short time to get used to the pegs and get comfortable. I especially liked the brakes and the frame mounted fairing.....less buffeting when passing large vehicles and side winds didn't bother the bike at all. The power was awesome....roll on the throttle and it was instant acceleration. Most people I talked to complained about the stock seat; I had no problem with it. And then there's the much superier stereo. The sound was so clear and lots of fidelity. Like I said in the beginning, my time on the Wing was cut short due to a lady running a red light and broad siding me. Bike has been totaled by the insurance and after two accidents in less than a year I'm calling it quits, at least for the time being. But, unless Yamaha gets off their lazy butts and makes major upgrades my next bike will likely be another Wing. Hell, look at the new Kawasaki.....it's heads above the Yamaha in new technology. I really loved my Ventures but they need to be brought into the 21st century.

Well, if he's getting all happy about a motorcycle, I'm glad someone can. I'm still mourning the loss of my 2008 Goldwing, and the fact that I don't think I can get on another one. Two accidents in less than a year is just a little too much. But I can assure you I will be watching this thread because I would like to see some "happy" for a change. Whatever it is good luck !!!!
