  1. I'm a new member but have been reading your posts for the last few weeks since I bought my new-to-me 1st gen. It came with a myriad of small problems, most of which have been corrected using tech info that you fine folk have posted. Many of these posts came with detailed step by step instructions and pictures to boot. As a career mechanic, I have seen repair manuals with far less information. So hats off to y'all for such a great website. Looking forward to the day when I can meet up with some of you folk. Thanks again!
  2. Hi Folks, Partshark say we will not get stuck with the extra charges UPS is so famous for when sending to Canada. Any Ontario folk have any experience with them? Was it as stated?
  3. We'll be at Deadwood sunday July 3rd at 1:30 pm. Rocket and Rod will be here so this would be one way to have a group meet up with them from our area. Such a busy summer with Canadians, Australians, and Icelandic folk running about the states. Hope some of you can make it. I'm gonna post it to the calendar as well. Margaret
  4. Brrrrrrrrr! Just checked the thermometer. IT'S ZERO (= 32 F) outside!  I just bought the insulation and wall covering for the garage so guess what I'm doing tomorrow? I don't want to take on stripping and working on the blonde beast when the wrenches are so cold you can't even hold on to them! I envy you southern folk....you can ride all year, don't have to pay for furnace oil or snow tires, and never have to shovel 10 inches of "partly cloudy" ......what can I say..... I don't want it to be winter!!!!
  5. How's the weather up there? I see all the schools are running late. I hope you didn't get iced in too bad. We just got a bunch of rain down here and it has stayed above the freezing point. How about all you other northern MN folk, how you doing?
  6. I want to give a big thanks to Condor (Jack) for coming by today and taking Tom E.'s parts bike away for me. I stole two big, long hugs from Jack and thought of you all and the love that flows through you to the 'family' when were hurting and going through loss. He was kinda enough to listen to me ramble and babble. (and MAN is he TALL! ) Thanks for what you did for me, Jack. It is appreciated more than you can know. There are some really intelligent and smart folk here on this site and I picked up on that when talking to Jack...he is one of the bright ones. He has a nice son, too, who came to help him load the piece. Thanks again, Jack. Your the bomb.
  7. So the other day when I was swapping out my Intake Manifolds I came across two "Air Vent Hoses" as they are called in the service manual. They came off the shafts liking the carbs and ran under the gas tank to the front fairings. Here's where it get disturbed. The hoses terminated inside the fairing. They were just sort of 'tucked in' there with no cap or plug or filter. That just seems very odd to me given the engineering labyrinth the intake system has turned out to be that the engineers would not have somehow protected these tubes from taking in dust or whatnot. So I have two questions for you wise, knowledgeable and good-hearted folk: 1. Are the vent hoses supposed to go to nowhere? 2. WTF O? (for those who have never been around military folk, that means "What the F#!k, Over? It may not make sense to you at first if you've never heard it, but say it a dozen times and it begins to feel natural) I've attached a scan of the page of the service manual. The entire manual appears to make no further mention of these tubes again. thanks in advance!! DJC
