well, my lay down is not nearly as colorful as many i have read here. i thank all who have written here so i may learn from those situations. i was on my first bike in the late 70's. it was a Kawa street / trail 125. just going down a city street on the way home. riding in the middle of the street, i started to make a left turn. the back wheel slid out from under me as the oil was too slick for my rear tire to get traction from. the car behind me stopped and helped me up. bruised ego and stratched knee and some scratches on the bike were all i had to contend with, but, i sure learned a lot. i learned how much junk is in the middle of the street. same for the highways too! I tend to stay in the left track. luckily i had had no other accidents and i thought i was riding carefully up until i bought this 04 RSV. all my bikes were much more agile and i have manuevered out of all the situations i have been in. this RSV is no sport bike and has taken more getting used to than anything else i have ridden. I have learned it may not stop exactly on a dime, but i have stopped in 15 cents. i use front, rear brakes and downshift and i shut it down quickly. this is of course being aware of the surroundings and knowing i need to stop. i have accelerated my way out of some potentially bad traffic situations as well. thanks again for all the insightful information posted here.

It is nice having time off. i wish the best for the health purposes. make plans for each day as time can slip by before you know it. i once took a couple days off with a weekend in the mix and got less done than if i had not take off the time. that was awhile back and i plan my time off much better since then.

I just want to make sure i just did this right. You guys have me thinking my washer is in the wrong spot. i just changed my rear tire on my 2004 RSV. on the right side i have the rim w/rotor, bushing inside rim, brake bracket, washer then swing arm. i looked at the schematic and that is what I saw and assembled it so. I torqued the axle nut to 110 and turns, just not free spin like a bicycle. I have not ridden it as the rain has stopped me, but i won't ride till i know i have parts in correct order.

the power of prayer through a group buy-in. praise the Lord for his work in your situation.

It is said to ride your own ride and not worry what another rider is cleaning his tank with.

I would be interested in how your bike plays out. please keep this thread updated with your comments.

Wow, what nice deflectors. these are simply great. i need polishing lessons fer sur. I am very thankful to both of you for getting my order out just under the wire as they arrived today. the weather is predicted nice over the weekend, so i may get these mounted after i get the back tire on. i would hate to see the price once these become so poplular they appear on eBay. if there is a testimonial page, i wanna post! thanks again, guys.

random acts of kindness may seem random, but they have one common link - those who do them. i mentioned a chain in another thread. if someone helps me, then i help someone else - it becomes a chain of seemingly random acts of kindness. i was 18 and in a bad spot & was helped. i asked how to repay & was told to help someone else in a spot like i was in. i have been doing so ever since. i had the opportunity to change a lady's tire who had a couple kids on their way somewhere. i had her swapped to the spare in no time. she pulled her wallet and asked how much she owed me. i looked at her and said "keep the chain going - someone once helped me. now, i have helped you, you help someone else and keep it going so the world can be a better place." she was speechless and i smiled at her and said "I need to pack my tools, you have a nice day with those kids" she smiled back and headed out. this is just one of several times i have been able to help. i do have to be careful though as there have been setups where do-gooders are bushwacked while being lured into the help me situation.

As long as the FAQ stay on the same page and the short answers stay on the same page and the place where the hyperlinks point stay don't change, keeping it up should not be a big deal. it is always the initial setup that is time consuming. searching the site, finding wanted existing text, then copying & pasting should save a lot of typing. been there done that.

NEWBIE Tech Questions
massey130 replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wally, i don't know if it makes you feel any better, but i have not put my new tire (which is now on the rim & an E3) back on the scooter. i was gun-ho this past monday, but with rain & the kids and the list goes on, i am not in such a big hurry as i wouldn't get very far anyway. maybe this weekend. Riding time for a lot of riders is cut down with the winter, so we are all there with you. all dressed up and nowhere to go. -
I would be skeered of a part described as "Seems to be in good shape" i don't know if this is one of us, but, here is the ad - http://cgi.ebay.ca/83-Yamaha-Venture-XVZ1200-XVZ-1200-Speedometer-Gauges_W0QQitemZ190358688687QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2c524313af

Yep. Don't get too worked up, though, it's nuttin fancy. it is one of those digital hour tachometers that is 1" by 3" and is velcro'd on my handlbar next to the fork clamp on the right side. a single wire goes from it routed to a spark plug. it is Yamaha branded. i bought it for 40 bux while in Minnesota visitin family and took a ride into St Cloud and look around. i found the Yama dealership. I do like it very much.

my experience is like most folks here. i have found if i want to conserve gas, i have to take it easy while going through the gears to what ever cruising speed the road permits, like city driving vs highway driving. to cruise at 70 i use 5th, but if traffic is busy and i need to be able to move around, i will stay/dwnshift in 4th. making 100 + MPH is way too easy as stated in 5th gear. my Yamaha tach/hour meter shows right about 3000 RPM for 5th gear at 70.

can you post a picture of the tire and the gash? if so, place a coin to give a visual reference to the depth. that will make it easier for comments to be given.
