we didn't manifold cook, but we traveled cross country between California and Louisiana. we stopped somewhere and used the coleman stoves and heated/cooked canned (insert you favorited can food name) or whatever Mom had picked up. i was just old enough to remember the travels but not many stops. this was in the mid 60's. we made the trip in a '63 chevy pickup w/a topper on the bed. those were the days - cause i didn't worry about stuff adults worry about - like i do now.

that was quite a game. i was on my seat's edge most of the way. deb is from Min and was rooting opposite me, but it was a fun evening. Likewise - - WHO DAT!

I agree. i have had enough winter. i don't like sweating buckshot, but i would rather that than cold. Mike, at least you won't have to prune that tree come spring.

Oil Leak - Top of Left Rear Cylinder
massey130 replied to TrainMaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
i don't know the answer, but i am interested in knowing. that way i can can watch my bike for similar stuff while doing a walk-a-bout before a ride. -
i usually am most gear always and all gear sometimes. if i wear all gear in Louisiana August, i come home smellin' like a camel. At least i come home alive, but it does get tiresome smellin' myself.

Since i have had this awhile, I can report that I have used this air pump off and on and i do like it. once you have you air where you want it, then the air pump becomes a maintenance tool. I have adjusted the rear shock as i get feedback from the Misses on the ride. for anyone who doesn't have one of these, they do come in handy. the gauge reads just fine for the front forks. you gotta be on your game though to get the valve part screwed onto the valve stem so you don't loose air whilest wanting to add some. thanks to the members who gave me direction in finding my hand air pump.

while Louisiana is not like Minn, it is our cold season and I, too, hate winter. while we have some nice days, they are just teasers.

thinking i had messed something up after changing the rear tire and having shifting trouble, i went through the suggestions in the previous thread. man, where does that oil go. last thing checked was the crankcase oil level and it was 1/2 down - and getting dark. what a drag. i was having such fun and then 2000 plus miles roll around and my shifter has to tell me it is time for an oil change. doesn't seem like that long ago i checked the oil and it was fine. I started out spoiled as the previous owner had done all the PM and all i had to do was get on and go. i called him today and asked what oil was in the machine so i could stay the course since i have no whine or chirp. He used Yama lube and 4 ounces of Lucas additive. so off tomorrow i go to round up some stuff to change the oil. I want to thank those of you who gave me suggestions to trouble shoot and i was sooo glad it was an oil change and not something else. anyone use an oil additive? if so, what kind? what a way to start the new year. i am glad i have the time off to take care of this.

that was the 2nd thread i had read on the spare key concept. i haven't taken the time to hide a spare, but i bring a spare along. i will be hiding one soon, though, with as much attention as my scootoer has been getting lately.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I will put that on my check list. just seems strange to me that the bike ran like it should before wheel swap and then does this afterwards. jus makes me scratch my head and wonder what the heck! I have the imitation carbon adapter with my ATV lift, but nothing out of the ordinary while in use.
Eck, i will check that stuff out this weekend. it gets a bit cold in the shop after dark and i don't get home from work till after 6PM. I will post results.
i would buy the less expensive cover and spend the rest of the gift card on spark plugs. those you can use. It is a shame that, in general, most folks have a less than stellar opinion of dealerships. the minority of us who have good dealerships are in luck.
i don't have the Star cover, but i do have a nice cover that meets the same specs. i got mine off ebay and paid right about 30 bux. the Star cover specs don't say it is safe for open trailering. If you plan on using it while trailering at highway speeds, i would be concerned about scratching and paint damage. even if my cover had stated safe for use while open trailering, i would not do so. this is just how i would do things. my cover has soft spots for contact areas and grommets.
I went for a ride this past Saturday after getting my rear tire back on the 04 RSV. when i tried to go into 3rd gear, it would not. with clutch in, down to 1st, back to 2nd and nearly pound the heel to go to third. got to the stop sign by this time and after stopping, fiddled with the shifter to get back to 1st. I managed to get a decent 30 mile ride in (mostly state highway), but i went through the above routine when needing to shift. when i got home, parked with the engine off, i could easily go through all the gears using one hand on the clutch and the other hand operating the gear shift. i was using my hands as i was squatting next to the bike so I could watch for anything wrong. I can't see anything out of place. clutch fluid good and properly filled. no fluid on the floor or leaking from anywhere. no problem at all before changing the rear tire. Is there something about removing the rear tire that is related to the clutch? I torqued the axle nut to 110 and while it won't free spin, i can turn the wheel with little effort. Any (helpful) comments would be appreciated.
we have blessings and challenges. while the blessings are wonderful, the challenges seem to have a different type of lasting-ness to their memory. we are currently in a challenge state of affairs. one reason for us being here is a the blessing of our RSV and consequently joining this site. we put our desire for a touring motorcycle in the hands of the Lord a couple of years ago and just forgot about it. the deal we got just fell in our lap, bloop - here ya go - and the deal we got with how we were able to arrange it were just great.
that stepped collar bearing thingie - mine, thank goodness was held in by grease. i did not know it would come out. it came out when i was re installing the rim w/new tire. i almost cropped my pants. i realized it was a part that was meant to come out and just put it back and finished the assembly. this is one of those sub steps that may be assumed by some. it should be noted in the "How to remove a rear tire" to remove and stow that bearing so you or the shop don't mistakenly loose it. as i perform tasks on my scooter, i compile my own version of the how to as i move along with one and add my own comments. i have my own "maual" that i make as i go. some of our members with experience will perform some steps automatically not realizing their one step is really made up of two or three mini steps. i do appreciate the tech section as it helped me remove my rear tire and save me some bux. thanks for all the input.
