  1. man, i hate that you had to go through this. the mechanic wiping down your bike reminds me of the time the chevy dealer decided on their own to wash my camaro without asking me. it went through one of those automatic washes with the spinning bristle brush. it just ate up my finish. when i went to pick it up, i was professional but blew my lid. those machines just can't do what a hand cleaning and wax job will. we settled, but it took many buffings to get it right. I wish i still that car. this will remind me to have a talk with any folks doing work for me. i will ask - do what i ask and nothing more. don't wash it or change this or that just cause you think it may need that.
  2. here is my story. I worked in chemical and polymer plants for awhile doing operator and computer work. all the hardhats and plastic stuff had the little clock type date stamp in them. this was their useful life span. sure it is safety and liability driven, but if that kept me safe, i was good with that. also a chemistry class in polymers showed me how all this stuff is derived. i can't quote the bond chains like i did back then to pass a test, but needless to say, the plastic bonds do weaken over time. our helmets will weaken over time. how much depends on how you store and care for you helmet. my personal time period for replacement is around 6 years. like one poster said, my helmet is an insurance investment to keep my brain safe, so 150 bux or so every 5 - 6 years is a bargain in my book. and i get to pick a new design. we all have our own idea of the helmet safety thresh hold, lets hope no one has to adjust the time frame from an accident.
  3. that is a tough one. i don't have any answers, but i feel for you. we all hope you get it figured out and done.
  4. with the take off on a used rim, you have a spare. forgot to add that bit so no one has to read between the spokes.
  5. If i were in your shoes, i would have the tire replaced. get a rim and mount the take off onto it. if you have them do some lubing for you, just make sure they do it right, or you will be doing it again not long from now. I have a new Dun E3 on the rear and will get a new E3 for the front in awhile.
  6. yep, it is a dealer. it is worth a phone call. here is the number from the add (866) 729-1165 , I bet he is willin' do go a bit lower on the price. it has been through his taxable inventory 2 or 3 years now. i bet less than 10 miles on that ride.
  7. will the lift adapter fit with this stand installed? seems like the locking bar that uses the center stand holes won't go through. if you are going to take off the rear tire, the bike needs to be higher than this center stand will go. while that is nice, i will pass and use my lift adapter.
  8. Moose, i don't think you are over the top. I am the same way. If i bring something in for service, i expect the service and nothing else. i did not ask for scratches or dents. I also expect very little gas burned when testing. Toyota burned nearly a half a tank of gas in my trundra. after finding out what really happened, my bill was reduced. lunch & errand run for testing of repairs. I hate a scratch or dent because now the item is damaged and has to be fixed and declared later if selling or giving away. If people were careful to begin with, this would not be a problem. I am very touchy about my stuff. If i have a beater then whoop-de-doo, but, something new or just redone - i get huffy. don't get me started, the end of my shift is coming.
  9. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I came across this one as well and purchased it. i am very happy with it. i can read zero to 25 pounds easily. i have used it for my front forks and my rear shock. it is nicely built. the only thing i am going to do is super glue that little black band that holds the hose in place. it will slide up, down, lef n rite. i think i did a write up on it for this site, but that was about a year ago. i would have to search. i am lazy today, though.
  10. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` to add what James said, you put the lift adapter on the bike and then the jack (lift) is used as james states. once up, you put the legs on the adapter. lower the bike till it sits on the legs and move the actual lift (jack) out of the way. go to the classifieds section and look for the Carbon One lift adapter. its picture is worth so many words.
  11. I spent a bit of time seaching around. only thing i found was non chrome cargo roof carriers. it would take some time to find it on the net, but it is there. if i find anything, i will re post.
  12. Welcome to the site, first off! as you work on the bike, you will find a permanent bracket for lifting you bike will be combersome. the lift adapter mentioned is worth its weight. you can go thru a bunch of motions to find what so many of us here have already been through. the center stand mod is on the site. you will need parts though and this only lets you set the bike up straight. I use a rough cut piece of 2 by 4 that measures 2 by 4 that i put under the side kick stand. it is enough that i can check my oil within a close enough to a level check. and it is so close to level, that i can teeter tooter the bike to level if need be. Like tom and others, my lift adapter gets used. being in the business of using tools, you know there are some shortcuts that just aren't worth it.
  13. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I would call your agent and get details. reading your policy declaration page is sometimes confusing. i was surprised about generic details were not what i thought. being informed now may save frustration when it's too late.
  14. has anyone seen the generic chin curtain. for my F/F helmet, i can cover the hole where my chin is and cut out a lot of wind noise. i can lower the IC volume but then i can't hear the wife. i have seen F/F helmets with chin curtain from the factory, but seldom see the curtain itself as an add on. any comments?
  15. far out!! that looks terrific. for a second, it thought it was the rear end of a 56 chevy sitting at the drive inn.
  16. I have not read much on sound proofness of these pet trailers, but is there enough sound proofing so the animals are protected from the constant sound pounding their ears from the pipes? those in the know may say, well go read the specs for crying out loud! I am not gonna get one, so probably won't go that far. but i am curious enough to wonder.
  17. i read the interview in American Handgunner where the marine gave the whole story to Mr. M. Ayoob. true stuff. Kudos to him and others who carry responsibly.
  18. ghost flames aren't bad. but the flames in the posted pics were not ghost. but if by chance they were supposed to be, white on black is tough to make "ghastly"
  19. that looks like what jerry palladino wears in his videos.
  20. what i got from RLAP video, was, when having to swerve around a vehicle that has invaded your right of way, you swerve the rear of the invader. a vehicle will most likely stop or speed up when they realize what is going on. they won't throw the gear shift into reverse while moving. if they stop and hold, then reverse may come to mind, but it is usually the last move they would likely make. I have always steered to the rear, even driving my paper bike in high school where i first noticed what cagers do.
  21. good point. maybe do nuttin' like Wes did. use the one side for awhile and see what happens. you could contact rick butler. i know a lot of folks talk very well of his seat work. i bet he can shed some insight.
  22. keep us informed of what you find and what you did to fix the problem. also, if possible, take some pics and post 'em.
  23. I don't know about this one. there maybe a base that the seat is built upon. if so, you can dismantle and possibly get a new/used seat base. I am just guessing here and thinking out loud. worse case - buy another seat - used or new.
  24. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ wouldn't a pet suffer hearing loss eventually from the noise coming from the tail pipes? especially if there the ride is for several hours.
  25. there are a lot of members here that have harleys. they are a good looking bike. i just think about being stranded somewhere when it breaks. I do like trends and the trend is that our yamaha's don't break near as much. If i came across a really good deal, i would probably get it just to have another bike in the stable. other than that, nah.
