trailer hitch recommendation
Squidley replied to david Taylor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
David, One of our members, Carbon One (Larry Skeels) has just started making a receiver type hitch for the 2nd gen. Larry is a good friend of mine and I have purchased many of his items. His workmanship is flawless and the quality on everything he does is top notch. Here is a link to his ad in the classifieds.... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3919&title=rsv26amp-3b-rstd-trailer-hitch&cat=24 -
Buddy, I went to Home Depot.com last night and those are on my list of 3 that seem to meet the requirements. Do you have these at your house, and if so have you had any issues?

I agree with Kevin here, do a fluid change 1st and then see what it feels like. Some may not agree with what I'm going to say here, so take it with a grain of salt. I will never try to rebuild a slave cylinder, unless it's flawlessly clean inside and not 1 pit in it, it will more than likely leak if you try to rebuild it. The kit is about $20 or so, a new one will run you about $70. I just put one on my '86, they are basically identical, I want the peace of mind knowing that it's not going to fail because either I didn't install the kit well enough or the inside wasn't in good enough shape....

Marca's dad
Squidley replied to Marcarl's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
All the best to you folks and all of the family. Knowing you and Marca like I do, it's a celebration of his life, and although he is gone from your sight temporarily, he will always be with you until you are reunited with him again. Lots of love to Marca....and you too Pop. -
Thanks folks, I bought the "Cheap" 4' T12 at Lowes for $10, they didn't hardly want to start and I'm in Texas for cryin out loud! I have had several of the members send me PM's and mention the T8's are the ones to go with and fixtures in the $25 to $30 range. Thats fine too as I dont want hassles and will pay for a better quality fixture so I dont have to "Tap the light" to get it to illuminate. Do appreciate all the suggestions....

RSV performance cam kit?
Squidley replied to mike_waldman56's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Vmax engine is not a strait drop in for the RSV. It can be dropped in with very few alterations to a 1st gen though....Right Dingy -
Fritz, I just put a PIAA H4 Xtreme White Plus Anti-Vibration bulb in my '86 and the difference was big. The part # is 70456 for the single bulb, I bought a 2 pack off Amazon as one of the Houston members wanted one for his bike also. If you are going to go with an HID, dont buy the budget one, like the Canadian Cruiser Customizing. I know several members who bought this and have had plenty of issues with it. It does light up the road pretty well, but there were and are lots of failures with the ballasts and like mentioned it should be put on a switch as starting the bike will make the bulb go out and you have to turn off the bike and restart it again. The PIAA is the easiest and simplest way to get more light....

Definitely not an "Old Guy" doing that, I dont mind riding a dirt bike, but you had better be at the top of the game when your trying that

If they are like everything else you make Larry they will be perfect and flawless Thanks for taking it on as I know VentureDad is very hard to get ahold of and I dont even know if he makes the hitches anymore

Depending on what he's trying to accomplish, some anti seize between the parts will work just fine....

Once I do the last one, I will take pics of it, and we can get it in the 1st gen library. I have to say with how I have been measuring the floats, all 3 were almost dead on the 15.50mm mark. This will be a great starting point for folks trying to set the floats, Thanks again for all the input fellas
-
Just in case anyone else is following this thread, I did 2 more of the carbs tonight and did the same 1" measurement from the bowl to the bottom of the float. It worked like a charm, they were exactly where the 1st one was at the 15.50mm mark. This will be the measurement I use from now on when I initially set the floats on any 1st gen I do now I'll take pics of the last carb with the calipers and the measuring point and post them on this thread before it's all done.

CJ, Find a starter off a 2nd gen Venture, it will bolt right on to a 1st gen and all of them are 4 brush, problem solved......I have one on my '86
-
I do have the complete bank apart and did perform a wet bench test. I tweaked it a bit from my pic I posted, to look more like the others. I hooked it back up to fuel and found the level to be at the 16.50mm mark. Back off again and tweaked it just a bit higher and it's setting right at the 15.50mm mark which I feel better with. The measurement I took after I achieved the 15.50mm mark was at 1.000 inches from the bowl base to the underside of the float with the digital calipers. I will do the rest of them with that 1" mark before I wet test them and see how that works out. I'll come back on and let y'all know how it plays out. Gary and Carl, Thanks again for all your quick responses and help

Gary and Carl, what are your thoughts on this level?
