  1. FWIW, DOT 3 and 4 are compatible together, the only real difference is DOT 4 has a higher boiling point, so either can be used in any of the Ventures.
  2. My cell # is in my profile Owen, if you ruin into difficulties just give me a call. I can walk you right through it over the phone.
  3. The time frame that we have the IR would be WAY too hot to have it in the hill country. Later in the fall, like Freebird mention, in October would be a great time of the year. Besides, we have mini rallys down here all the time. Tom hosts an excellent get together in Leaky every year. Big Bend has been done a few times, if folks are interested in coming to Texas for some riding, let one of us down here know, we can get a good mini rally going
  4. I remember her Dad, he was great to be around, what a shame....we'll keep those folks in our thoughts. Thanks for the heads up.
  5. Happy Birthday Gil You dont look a day over.....oh nevermind
  6. Left side of the bike (while sitting on it) the 2 circular covers on the motor. The fwd one is your stator cover, the one behind it, towards the rear of the bike is your middle gear cover. There is a 1 1/4" square rubber pad about halfway up the distance and directly between the covers. Flip it up and there is the bleeder for the clutch...
  7. If this is the front switch, it could be that the switch housing has loosened over time and has slid back in the receptacle. This would mean that the lever wouldn't fully engage the switch. Or the handle is sticky from gum and dirt and doesn't completely engage the switch either. You would need to be disassembled and cleaned well.
  8. I see you like the Honda CB's from some of your pics, good picture album
  9. They will scare the beejeezus out of a cager on a cell phone! They will definitely get your attention, many of the members use them on both 1st and 2nd gens. Not a real deep tone, but loud as hell Thats where the wiring upgrade is good to get as it feeds the horn all the power it wants. The anemic factory wires that hook to the horn just dont let enough juice down there to feed the horns. Larry's harness actually uses the factory horn wires to control the relay that comes with it.
  10. No...not you
  11. I got to tell you....I have it saved as my screen saver right now
  12. Cool Beans!
  13. Yeah...the orings are necessary, from the front look of that plate, I would say that it's got a lot of pitting on it. You want plates as smooth as glass and of a reasonable thickness, 1/4" or a bit better. Stainless is what I would put on it myself if I were to make a set....or just buy a set from Earl
  14. I didn't get my phone call, so I know it must have been rigged!!
  15. That is an insane price for a wing trike and a trailer, I doubt it's going to be available for long.
  16. If it could work out for you, I am heading to Michigan middle of September. I could always go into NY and ride it down to you folks in Georgia if the stars align and such.....
  17. If your going to get a Stebel horn for the bike, you might consider these 2 things. They are made by Carbon One, he's one of our member vendors and we'll worth the no hassle of a plug and play setup. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3727&title=stebel-horn-wiring-harness&cat=24 http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3726&title=carbon-one-stebel-horn-bracket&cat=24
  18. Y'all definitely make us proud to be here, but I expect nothing less from this group. Thats the way it has always been and I'm sure the way it will stay for years to come. Way to show folks what it's all about and how it's done!
  19. Thats AWESOME!!! I dont know how I would react being able to enjoy the scenery and have someone else commandeer the bike
  20. Carlos, Sometimes they need a little persuasion, grab the back end of the pipe, where the exhaust comes out. Rock it side to side as far as you can, then up and down as far as you can. This will help "open" the slip on over the headers. While pulling backwards and away from the headers, rotate it in a circular motion. Keep doing this and they will come off. Like mentioned take some emory cloth or 320 grit sandpaper and clean the headers as clean as you can get them before you install the stock pipes....
  21. I have a feeling that those carbs will have to come off and be properly cleaned. Seafoam is good stuff, but if a jet is plugged, Seafoam wont unblock it. Like mentioned, do a tuneup 1st, if your not getting spark, having fuel there is useless....
  22. Great pics, I love the ones of y'all working in the Pioneer shop, Bull looks like he was up to his elbows in it, as well as all the others....Good on y'all!
  23. You should just be able to copy and paste the URL header from up top and insert it into the body of the thread. http://s698.photobucket.com/albums/vv343/weldman333/
  24. I can appreciate your insight, and the RTV is just a temporary thing. If there are holes in the diaphragms, they need to be replaced with new ones. My thing is the RTV will last long enough to get whats needed for replacement and installed. It will also help along with the troubleshooting process. Thanks for the clarification and trying to help Tom along
  25. Tom, What I am going to mention is what I do everytime I get a used 1st gen. Start with a complete tune up, plugs, wires, fuel filter. It sounds like the carbs are in need of some serious cleaning, the slider diaphragm sounds like it might have holes in it and need to be replaced. A quick fix for holes in the diaphragm is black RTV and let it set up. Drain the bowls of all fuel and make sure that they are filling with gas. Also while it's running tap on the bowls of each of the carbs, there is probably crud in them. There is a ton of info here on the site about getting into the carbs and such. If you fairly handy with a wrench and not afraid to get dirty, you can get it rolling again. If you have any questions my # is in my profile.
