Loss of half my engine
Squidley replied to Darkhorse911's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Gunboat just had issues with the new '99 trike he bought as #3 Cylinder wasn't firing. Turned out to be the ignitor box was bad on that cylinder, might want to check into that. Also too did you check the caps to make sure there was no corrosion in them? It's possible that 2 coils went out, but that is kinda unlikely. You can do a resistance test on the coils to verify they are good. -
Not a chance my friend, I saw that on FB and laughed my butt off!

Couple of major crossing points are in Michigan. The Ambassador bridge in Detroit to Windsor, or the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron about 70 miles further north which crosses into Sombra. There are a couple of ferries that cross the St. Clair River also 1 in Algonac, and 1 in Marine City. There is also the crossing in New York in Buffalo, some of the NY crew will surely chime in about that. If a ride is what your looking for you could go around the great lakes and come back south through the Chicago area. There is a lot of beautiful country in Ontario and some of those troublemakers will chime in too.

All the best to your daughter and your family Hal, 1 day at a time my friend.

You have roughly a gallon of gas left when it hits reserve and the "F" starts counting up, I'd be looking for a gas station in less than 25 miles.

Tom, That is excellent new my friend, I know it will be difficult, but you can do it. Keep the gym thing going, I have been going for almost 2 months now. Up at 3am to do my workout before I have to be at work at 6am. I was ready for the gym, and have dedicated myself to getting in better shape. We want you around for a long time bud....keep it up

Chris, This is RTV, it's a silicone gasket sealer http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=219327385&listingid=126169059 and you dont necessarily need to replace the crush washer, just make sure you install it back in the spot it was taken off from. I have reused the ones on all my bikes and haven't had to replace one as of yet.

Chris, Yes you do have to drain the oil to start. It also would be a good idea to take off the floorboard for better access and drop the front exhaust pipe down to get at the lower case bolts. You have to remove the middle gear cover, the bottom center retaining bolt is the one with the crush washer on it, that needs to go back in that spot. Make sure you mark the positions where the bolts came out of, there are different lengths. When you pull the stator cover off keep in mind the position that the starter gears are in, they can go in backwards. I want to mention this also, this isn't a slam to Buckeye, but I had 2 stators start to leak where the 3 wires come through the sealing block. The easy fix for that is to apply some RTV on both the inside of the block where the wires go through and the outside. This will help prevent future seepage. Take your time and dont be in a hurry, make sure that you can eat off both surfaces where the gasket will go. Apply some RTV around the wire block and where the gasket will cover it. This will help insure that you wont get leaks there. If you have any issues my # is in my profile.

Why Reverse A Rear Tire When Put On The Front?
Squidley replied to GlennTuc's topic in The Darksiders
My Electra Glide is like that, as the tire sizes are the same. 1 direction for back and the other for the front. -
HID Headlight...now what do do with passing lamps
Squidley replied to TheKid's topic in Watering Hole
Yes there is, I noticed it on Gunboats '99, but only when the music isn't playing....there is a hum. -
Did he send you a hammer to knock out a few troublemakers!?
-
I had the same thing happen on Gunboats 2 wheel '99 and was kinda surprised that I could see. Granted they are more a flood light, but I could see the road fair. I would still like more of a stretch spot type beam, but they works reasonably well.

I'm going to be the catalyst here, I absolutely believe if you ride a bike on the road you should have to pay for that, now here's the reason why. They can and do take up space in a lane, an obstacle that you have to avoid should you be in a cage. I have seen 1/4 mile backups where you cant pass them due to oncoming traffic. I also see them riding on the road where there is sidewalk available to ride on. Perhaps I'm old fashioned in the fact that I believe that is what sidewalks are for. I'm not for the political money grab that this is, but I do get irritated when I have to maneuver around them, as if something happens and I end up hitting them, life will suck for both party's involved. I know some of you aren't going to like these statements, but thats just the way I feel about it.

So, a man walks into the service department...
Squidley replied to Dave77459's topic in Watering Hole
Just to chime in here a bit, Dave's engine was a fluke, this is only the second time I have ever heard of a Venture engine blowing up. I highly doubt any of you fellas with similar TD's or RSV's have anything to worry about. These engine have proven bulletproof reliability, Dave just was on the unlucky end of this one. -
HID Headlight...now what do do with passing lamps
Squidley replied to TheKid's topic in Watering Hole
I have Gunboats 2 wheel '99 and he has an HID headlight and the LED passing bulbs on this one. I can tell you that for oncoming traffic they definitely can be seen. The issue I have with the passing lights is they are more of a flood and dont kick out a lot of light ahead of the bike. You might want to check into some PIAA's as they are super bright and might blend well with the HID.... -
Are you looking for a new set Patrick? I have a pair on a spare upper fairing I have...let me know.
