Come on back over and bring Theresa with you, we'll do a mini MD here in Conroe

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/snapvents.php This is the company and the vents that I have used in the past. I used the CC 3251 models, they work out pretty good and you could still use the Goldwing vent in the center part of the windshield and the round vents out towards the sides of the shield. if you have any questions PM or call.

Send it down here to Texas, we need rain so bad it's not even funny. Driest it's been down here in 100 years, and wildfires all over the place.

I agree with Chickenhawk, I had E3's on my '89 and they were decent tires, but handling wise Avons have always been the best IMO. The Michelin Commanders were a VERY close second, I have never had an issue with Avon Venoms cracking.

On the way Gunk!

Sorry you seem to be having troubles with this install Chris. As mentioned when several of us mentioned to solder the connections it's because quite a few of us have had issues with the connectors corroding and failing, thus leaving us stranded on the side of the road. I speak from experience on this, as I am one that had this failure. Now I will place this quote "Well, when these bikes are assembled you can't really tell where the parts might be because they are all assembled differently and there is no way to tell where the components might be placed." I am thinking this sounds a lot like what I mentioned when we talked. If this isn't my quote then my next statements wont matter except to clear any confusion for future members. I believe that we didn't have a clear understanding of what I meant. I never talked about component placement, I talked about the wiring harness and how it is wound around in the bike. There can be zipties placed in different spots either on the assembly line or by a dealer that had done work on the bike. This can greatly affect how much slack there is to solder the connections. Now mind you I HAVE done this to Gunboats '99 RSV, and I had to finagle the wires around a bit to get to a point where this could be accomplished. Unfortunately my rememberer isn't what it used to be and many times now I have to see situations and think on the fly. I wish you all the luck with your bike, unfortunately I'm not sure how much more help you'll get with it from the group...all the best.

Unfortunately I take it that it didn't go well after our conversation Sometimes the best thing to do is walk away for a day or 2, I have done that several times.

Ron, Wire it up to a relay and have the relay energize when you turn the ignition to the on position. I did that on a couple of my 1st gens, never bothered with an on off switch. I ran the driving lights day and night.

JD, I want to mention that I am not a fan of the Odessy batteries due to 2 going bad in less than a year on Gunboats '99. I used to think they were a good battery, but 2 bad to the same guy is too much coincidence for me. I would definitely charge the battery fully and have it load tested to make sure it is in fact good. -
Nice work on both of your accounts

Buddy, Dont waste your time or money, I put a new set of the Pirelli MT 66's on Gunboats 2 wheel '99 to sell it and I am not impressed. I actually dont have a lot of confidence in the tire as I have had it loose traction half a dozen times, when I dont believe it should have. I know that one of the members here that lives in the Houston area put the larger 880 Metz on the back of his '07 and it seemed to fit the driveshaft tube. Perhaps Ponch will chime in as he worked on that bike a bit installing a gauge set.

All the best to you and your family Annie, I had my best friend do the same at 17. may you remember the good times and know that his soul suffers no more.

I had an '84 that I ran driving lights on all the time. When it was hot in the summer and the fan would come on if I was at a stoplight, it would die as it was pulling too much current. The idle should be right at 1000 rpms, and if you are running driving lights a lower watt bulb might be in order. -
RSV much worse in crosswinds than 1st Gen?
Squidley replied to Grisolm1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I actually find the opposite, the 1st gen has a narrower front tire and there isn't as much meat on the road. We came back last year from Thom's MD in Rockport TX and we were in some serious 30+ mph wind. Lonna and I were on an '89 and the rest were on G2's and they didn't get beat up nearly as bad as we did. -
A different driving light holder.....

Mike, I am also a member at HD Forums http://www.hdforums.com/ There is some good info over there, but it is NOTHING like our site. You'd better be thick skinned and used to dealing with Alphas. Depending upon what you'd like to know, there are several here as mentioned that are familiar with HD's. Scooter Bob is VERY knowledgeable with old school Shovelheads.
