Would like to add my condolences.

--- and I also learned that Don is pretty good at keeping his word that there will be no rain above his place during MD.

I'll offer a different pperspective that I have used with my wife to rationalize the cost of bike ownership, although like many others, I would not be without a bike regardless. In our case, we "downsized" from a two car family to a one car family some time ago. I am amazed how often I use my bike for transportation when my wife needs the car.

I live in fear of the other guy on the road. We are in the Toronto area with some of the busiest roads in North America and each year, it seems to me, the impatience and driving habits of others including speeding, lane changing, tailgating and talking on cell phones gets noticeably worse.

Not only that Abdul, there was no kick starter! -
Hard to keep them within the speed limit Quickstep. Enjoy your new ride. Hope it makes you smile for many more years.

This was my 4th MD Don and I want you to know how much I value the opportunity to meet with and get to know better so many of the wonderful people who share our common interest. What you and Eileen do is amazing and special.

Based on the current weather forecast calling for rain, we may not need to take a shower when we get there. Anyway, the plan sounds good Carl.

Don, my experience is similar to that of many others who have replied. My two daughters are now into their 40's. I had been riding and owned bikes since I turned 16 back in 1963 so by the time my daughters turned 16, I sure knew how much more dangerous it would be for them to ride. But what I couldn't deal with in the end was preventing them from experiencing all the good things that I had experienced as a teenager allowed to have my own bike. So, in the end, I helped them each buy their own bikes and guided them as best I could. With one daughter, I worried every time she left home on her bike. But in my case, I sure got lucky. No accidents and some 25 years later, that experience remainst a source of pride for both of my daughters and it contributed in a significant way to their growth and our relationships. I think the only difference if I were in that situation today is that like you, I would insist on a safety course and do everything I could to keep them away from crotch rockets.

Guess it could have been worse. A guy I was touring with was wearing shorts and the bee that stung him do it - well - you can guess where - a bit closer to his belt. He dropped his bike and ran, into the bush and jumped into a muddy swamp. Also knew someone who had a bee get into his helmet riding to work. The end result was that he rode into a telephone pole and killed himself.

The day after our 7500 mile "Venture West" last year, my wife said that we should do a "Venture East" to Newfoundland this summer which was music to my ears! With over 100,000 miles on my 88VR, I would still not hesitate, although I would prefer to spend a few days doing some preventative maintenance work such as new wheel bearings, plus a new front tire as my E3 now has about 30,000 miles on it.

Hey Abdul, been away for a while but just "rode back in to town" late last night and trying to get reconnected. Anne and I are going tomorrow so if you want to do the ususal meet in fron of our place, that would be great. Just let me know when. Our preference is to get out of town and to Carl's in decent time in the morning.

Want to add our congratulations. Grandkids can be one of life's greatest joys - beyond expectations!

About 4 years ago, I started thinking about the bike owned by an old friend who I used to ride with back in the early 90's. It was a 1st gen. Decided to look for one and found the one that I eventually bought after I did a web search and stumbled across this forum. In fact, it is this forum that helped me decide to buy my VR. What a stroke of luck - both finding the forum and buying the VR.
