Went on a group ride from Mobile to New Orleans on HWY 90 west. We averaged about 50mph and I filled up and put in 1.8 gallons and went 93.7 miles. I think that is 52 mpg. Comming home on I 10 east at indicated 75( I know really 70) I went 198 miles before I put it on reserve. Total milage on that tank was 204. Have not filled up second tank yet. Really happy with first tank milage. tew47

Its more like 3.5 qts. My 07 Venture takes 3 qts. to center of site glass. Don't go higher than the center of the sight glass!!! dIf you do it will be blown into the air box and it will run down the left side of the engine. tew47

Fort Payne,Alabama. Little River Canyon & state park. Deepest Gourge east of the Mississippi river. Beautiful area. 1500 ft. deep. Alot of twisty roads. Home of the band "Alabama". Thirty miles south of Chatanooga,Tennessee. Also has several waterfalls one over 100 feet high. Hardly any traffic. tew47

Picked up my bike today after they changed out the clutch basket. It was real quiet when I left, but when I got about ten miles down the road it started to whine a little, not as much as before. I will put Mobile 1 10 W 40 it it next week and see how it works. tew47

Today I met with stvmaier, Steve and his wife were real nice people. They are from Illinois passing through Mobile. We met at Ruby Tuesday and sat in airconditioning for a while to cool off and talk. Nice to meet other Venture riders from all over the US. Wish I was going their way on a ride like theirs, all the was to West Virginia then back to Illinois, must be nice!! tew47:bighug:

My wife and I went to Ft. Payne,Al. this weekend and on to Rock City. On the way up on cruise at 72mph on the first tank with regular unleaded we got 30.2 mpg. When we had to fillup we could only get corn gas and lost 6mpg on that tank and on the second tank we lost 8 mpg at the same speed on cruise, and it cost more. So much for corn gas. Oh, that was in a PT Cruiser tew47

Well I guess mine is different. With oil and filter change my Venture will hold 3 qts to center of site glass. I have let it drain for an hour and it did not make any difference. tew47

I think we got more problems than just high gas prices
TEW47 replied to friesman's topic in Watering Hole
I saw a report on tv that said Exon/Mobile profit margin for the last quater was 8%. There is enough coal ( for making syn. gas) in Montana to last two hundred years, but the evironmentalist won't let them use it. Germany did this in WW2. There is one factory that does make syn gas and the military uses it. Remember befor the 2006 elections the Demoncrats leadership said we were not paying enough for gas that we should need to be paying more for gas, Guess they got their wish. Now they don't remember saing that. tew47 -
I was having problem years ago when I had the'97 RSTD. After taking the MSF course I have not had that problem amymore. tew47

I was having rear wheel lockup when braking hard and couldn't figure out why. Then I read an article on the MSF webb site about an instructor that had alot of students in the advanced rider course that had floorboards, had rear wheel lockup. He found the reason why!! They were lifting up their foot and stomping the rear brake. When you do so you are using not only you calf muscle but you thigh and inertia, thats a lot of pressure. His answer is to keep you heel on the floorboards and pivot foot to the brake leaver and brake with you toe or the end of you boot. It works!!! I have been practicing that procedure and it works. Try doing it and you will build up muscle memory and you will do it in an emergency. So far I have not locked up the rear wheel when doing this. Practice, practice, practice!!!! I hope this will help everyone. tew47

Mine went out and it turned out there are two fuses for the cruise control. If memory serves me right it is in the fuse box on the lower right by the air filter, or in that general area. tew47

Put on my new Avons today with the MT90 front. What a difference!! I lwent to the local MSF range to try them out. I am now able to turn 18' circles to the left and 20' circles to the right. Was able to do all offset weaves with no problems. Was able to do all excersis with no problems, which with the stock Bridgestone I could not do. Do they ever stick to the road! tew47:bighug:

I have been an instructor for about ten months. The MSF school was hard. Four of us formed Gulf Coast Motorcycle Safety. Since the weather has warmed up we have been fully booked every weekend. Gets kind of hard on the feet and back with all the standing. Yes you can supplement your retirement, I am retired. It really makes you feel good knowing you are helping someone and hopefully they will learn enough to help them not get hurt or worse. I was hired by the local HD dealer, went to school in Iowa then went to Riders Edge in Atlanta. tew47

I helped out a 1% several years ago, he was out of gas on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Offered to give him a ride to a gas station, he refused, would not leave his bike. BUT he gave me the key to his house and told me where he had a full gas can locked up in his shed. I went to his house a brough back the can of gas. He invited me back to his house for a beer and thanked me alot for stopping to help. He was a member of the Banddois. tew47
