My first 2 sets of Avon's were wonderful. 12 - 15 on rear tires. Almost double on fronts. I ran the 42 /48 pressures also. third set cracked and Avon replaced no charge. My rear of that set was replaced yesterday after about 9000 miles. Cords showing all of a sudden. Side walls starting to crack also. On the bike about a year. I replaced it with Dunlop E-3 also. Waiting for front tire of the same, but bike handles really good with the mixed set. We'll see how the E-3 works out.

Thanks Taz, I am going to get back home in November and have set it up to check out the bike in detail. I will make the owner an offer at that point. I am sure it will need plenty of work as it has sat for several years. He said he used to at least fire it up and ride around the neighborhood each summer but has not done that in 4 or 5 years. Original tires on it and they were toast when I found the bike 2 years ago. Would anything internally need attention after sitting so long? I am a carpenter, not a mechanic. But not afraid to disassemble and reassemble things if I have a good manual. Dieseldawg, thanks for the info on the carb for sale. I have not bought the bike yet but will do my best to get it. My biggest concern is what needs to be done to it after sitting so long. Is the manual available for download, like the one for the Venture? Dennis

It is a 1996!!! Said he had to look at the title... lost 10 years somewhere... lol I wonder what all would have to be gone over and replaced after sitting so long? tires, battery for sure.

I was just looking at flugur's pic's of his 1998 Royal Star Classic and this bike looked like that. I will find out more about it soon. I rarely look at other bikes, just my speedometer once in awhile.... Dennis

It looked more like a roadstar, did not have a trunk on it. I re-emailed the guy and asked him it it wasn't a '96. I am currently working in NM and this bike is in MT, so can't get another look at it until mid Nov when I get home.

The guy said it was: "Hi Dennis, it is a Royal Star. 4 cylinder water cooled 1300 cc. Bike is an 86 model and has 1,000. miles on it give or take a few. Yes, 1,000 no mistake. " I saw it about 2 years ago under the tarp at this guys mom's house when I re-roofed her place. I thought it was a Roadstar at first because there was no trunk. Active bee nests at the time so could not get to close..

Well, I have found a 1986 Royal Star with a tarp over it under a lean-to. Has not been run in close to 10 years. Rubber is shot that I can see, a couple of bee nests.... Paint job is ok considering the tarp has blown a bit..... But the amazing thing is this: IT HAS A BIT OVER 1000 MILES!!!! The guy wants to sell it. What do you think it is worth???? It will need some work sitting like that, but what a great find!! I am thinking of getting it for my wife. She rides the 1100 v-star right now but has been looking at the roadstars. Our PGR group also has been asked to greet returning veterans at the airports throughout the state. We have stood at funerals to honor WWII vets through the present engagements. Recently we rode with the Blackfeet Veterans in the Indian Days Parade in Browning MT. That was an honor for me to be asked to participate in the parade. You don't see many non-indians in it. Emotional? Oh, ya.... We had members from around the state attend the dedication for the Vietnam Wall in Bozeman this spring. It rained all day, but the water on our faces was salty, (we also were in charge of parking, we volunteer for many things). I have shed more tears in the several years of having been participating in honoring our Hero's than probably in all of my life. We have a moving memorial to all veterans that goes around the state. MT PGR rides escort when it moves and helps take down and set it up. Our local ride captain rode to all four corners of the lower 48 last fall with 2 other PGR riders. They had a van riding along with them flying a big banner. Each of the bikes had flags, US, PGR, POW-MIA. They promoted what PGR is about with newspapers and TV stations. Sorry, long winded at times.... I am just happy that I can honor our veterans in anyway possible.

missing trunk support bolts

Found trunk bolts at the local hardware store. $.65 each. Not chrome but that is fine by me. (Store had display of chrome bolts, but no-one could find the keys). Would like to powdercoat the entire bike.... then it would be easier to clean. Wife is just the opposite, when in doubt, get her chrome for her bike! Can't go wrong there! (Then she want's me to help her clean her bike.... love only goes so far.... and that is a bit far.... lol) Got home and found another bolt missing from the radiator cowling. I know that my dealer just had that off the other day. Checked the 2 other bolts and found no locktite at all..... I think I will give up on them. Everytime I have something done to any of my bikes something goes wrong. Locktite would solve 80% of the problems. Went back to hardware store and got a bolt and washer that will work for now. It will be covered in bugs in no time so won't notice it does not match the other one. -

Need to get some new ones. Missing 2 and the one that was partway out has damaged threads. Will take it out and head to NAPA and see if they have some. I am sure that the Yamaha dealer will want 4 times the cost because they come from them. -
The wife and I were riding around yesterday when at a reststop she told me it looked like my trunk was bouncing when I hit sizable bumps in the road. (She was riding her V-Star 1100). I immediately found that 2 bolts were missing on the left side from the support bars. Also one on the other side was turned about 1/2 way out. Fortunately I had a bunch of zip ties with me and proceeded to attach them for temp. support. I had just gone over the bike a week earlier with a very good eye when I was spit shining it for a PGR Mission. They were there then, and tight. (I figured they were tight as no space between head of bolt and attachment bar). Anyone ever have these come loose on their own? I will be getting with my dealer in the morning to express ship me a couple of these. I am riding back to work a week from today, (Sunday, July 27th), 1200 miles one way and would prefer bolts over zip ties. I have a bit of luggage, but don't put that much in the trunk. Usually a couple bags on the pilion seat.

Bought Sears M/C jack on sale last year for $70. Then got Carbon ones lift adapter with legs... best thing I ever purchased for my bike!! Happy I spent my money on this! I run the bike up on a couple pieces of 2x6 and the jack fits under with no problem at all. Then you can properly clean and service your bike.

I like the lights! I ride the Venture, '05. I ride 1 up most of the time, but just rode to NM and back for work. Will be heading back down there, (from MT), in a week or so. I load the back seat up pretty heavy with clothes and gear, over 100 lbs for sure. Well, I find that with gentle starts and keeping the speed down under 75 I get 42 - 44 mpg. Well, that is difficult to do all the time because my bike's "sweet spots" are 85 and 100 mph. When riding 1000 plus miles in a day I usually do keep the speed down, but there are times when I can't help but roll the throttle!! Like on July 4th when I crossed the ID / MT line coming home...... I was at 104 mph and kept it up near 100 mph until about 12 miles south of Dillon, MT. Road goes into a canyon and slowed down to below posted limit and around first corner there was a Smoky.... lucked out.... But what I wanted to say is at 100 mph for 60 plus miles I got 36.5 mpg. Also, I am pleased that riding my bike to my job, (over 1200 miles one way), I am getting 30.5 cents a mile. I pay my gas out of that, but not to bad. Hopefully the IRS will raise the motorcycle rate soon, as they have raised the "cage" rate twice in the past month to 58.5 cents a mile now. Geezrr
