  1. All HD Rockers have been recalled back to the factory for manufactoring defects. Also HD will not fix gear whine on all six speed models, but you can buy a gear to fix the problem! Is this a way for buyers to have to spend more money. Cable less throttles are giving problem too, with oil temps running at 290 degress or hotter. tew47
  2. Why trade for another whiner? I rode with a friend he had a RK. Heard a different kind of whine, it took a few minutes to noticed it was his HD that was whineing louder than my Venture. I have several friend who have new HD's and they whine more than my Venture and cost a heck of alot more. And HD won't fix their whine either. rwq47
  3. I rode BMW's for years and waved at ever bike I saw, wheather it was a scooter, sportbike, touring bike or just a bike I waved!! Not all waved back but at least I was friendly toward them. Alot of BMW rider are really serious about safety and safety equipment ,helmets, leathers etc. I was in Germany four times and never saw anyone riding without a full set of leathers on, all color matched to their bike. I have have some Venture riders not return a wave. tew47
  4. Yes Kit you are right. 30 yrs ago it was alot worse. Had someone try to do something stupid to me while I was riding to work almost every week, thanks to TV and the movies. I had people trying to run me off the road on purpose, throwing bricks, beerbottles, had a kid swing a baseball bat at me, they all though it was funny. Ran into a tree while tring to dodge a car which moved into my lane head on and didn't stop to see if I was all right. tew47
  5. As I was going home on Interstate 10 saturday across Mobile bay from east to west and the nearest car in front was at least half mile ahead,no one in the left lane and only one car in back of me. I was in the right lane and move from one side of my lane to the other. I had just moved to the right side of my lane when motion caught my eye. The car in back of me was passing me in my lane, the kid was so close I could have stuck my hand in his window. Used my airhorn for several seconds when he looked at me it was as if he thought , get out of my way! Got really mad ( and scared) for a few seconds and got off of the interstate. I had taught a MSF class and was on the way home. Did I have a story to warn the students about. On Oct. 18 a biker was killed, while riding in the rain, three cars ran over him and left the seane. They were later caught and they said they didn't know they had ran over some ,just a bumb in the road, yea right, can of hard to believe. It was 9am. tew47
  6. Back in'84 I rode a R60/5 BMW 1000 miles is 16 hours and it had over 150k on it at the time. Of course my back hurt for a week. tew47
  7. Our local CMA chapter had a ride from Mobile to Owassa,AL, just over 100 mile north of Mobile. Beautiful day and about 55 degrees. Fished in his lake and had a cookout with good old home cooking. My wife an I had a wounderful time. We drove at an indicated 75 which I know is actually 70, but I went 186.2 miles on 4.3 gallons, 43.3 mpg. I could have made it all the way home but I didn't want to take the chance of not making it. Big Blue ran great. I am real happy with it. Oh, at that speed with the intercom on I couldnot hear the whine. Today I rode with a friend on his RK and I heard a whine that I had not heard before, then I noticed it was his HD whineing louder than Big Blue. tew47:bighug:

    Clutch Whine

This is not the only bike that has whined. My 'XS750 & 850 both whined also my 86 goldwing and my 97RSTD,but most of all was my 87 K100LT BMW. It was a trait that most if not all BMW K bikes had, including K75. You could hear them a long ways off. A friend of mine has an Honda VTX1800 that whines It is a characteristic of straight cut gears. So Yamaha is not the only one with the whine. So I guess I will take the BUBs and carry on. Some Kaws whine and some Suks and now Hartley whine. Now for the first time HD is putting shock pads in their rear wheel to absorb the shock of gear changes and troque. My '71 R5B,350 had then in it. HD is just chatching up with 1970. Check out their forum. tew47
  11. Took my bike to dealer today about the clutch whine and was told Yamaha does not replace clutch baskets anymore. But will install BUBs slipons instead. What do youall think of this? tew47
  12. The easyest way is to buy an angle finder. They can be found at Harbor Freight or other parts places. Remove retainer ring and light. Use small carpenders square. Place square an angle finder on light, bike can be kept on side stand. Set each light at 90 degrees. Will have to use 17mm wrench to hold bottom bolt. Hold wrench and tighten with one hand and thighten nut or allen head bolt, witchever it is you have. They come with eighter a 12mm nut or an 8mm allenhead bolt. Angle finders cost about $2. tew47
  13. The JC Whitney item number is zx010265y. About a month ago they had them on sale with free shipping. Now they are $96.99 + shipping. tew47
  14. You can get the same windshield from JC Whitney delivered to your house for $88. tew47

  16. I have a set of floorboards off a '97 RSTD, don't know if they will fit or not. Will make a good deal. tew47
  17. You said you put K & N air filters on. Did you over oil the filters before you put them in? I did and lost 9 mpg until I cleaned them and put a light coat of oil on them. tew47
  18. I've got a JCW made by showchrome, and I like it very much no problems. TEW47

  21. If your driving light is loose I have a fix. Mine were loose and moving around alot. So I took them apart and found in the driving light there is a socket head bolt that has been drill out lengthwise. All you have to do is remove blinker light,be sure to take the bolt all the way out. Remove retaining ring on driving light and just let the light hang there for awhile. Unplug the red and the orange wires. Slowly pull the red and orange wires down just enough to get a 8mm allen wrench in. With a wrench hold the sided chrome part that you just pulled the blinker light off of and tighten with allen wrench good and tight. Push the red and orange wires back up into the driving light shell and replug them. Put light back in and the blinker light. You might won't to put some kink of thread lock on the allen bolt before you retighten it. Worked for me. Gene Weir
  22. I PASSED!!! I passed the MSF instructor school in Ceder Rapids, Iowa Yesterday. That was alot of hard work. Friday,Sat.,Sunday we taught our first class, one had to do a retest and he then passed by cutting down his score from 24 to 7, that was great. Had several sleepless nights studying trying to pass. I am extreamly tried and glad to be home. Now I have to go to Rider Edge on June 4 for a week. Then real world teaching. Gene Weir:322:
  23. With bike in netural and clutch out it rattles alot. When I pull the clutch in it makes alot less noise. Should I be concerned? Though it was a connecting rod bearing or cam but it wasn't. Gene Weir
  24. I can't remember which screw on the right side syncs those two together. Is it the left or right looking from the left side? Remember 97' RSTD not venture or newer RS they are different. Gene Weir:confused24:
