    TCI

There is no power on any of the 6 pin connectors. Mostly these go to the pick up coils and presure sensor. Link below is a schematic for your bike. 84-85 Yamaha Venture Royale DL Wiring Diagram Rev C.pdf TCI is bottom center/right. You should be able to read the coil resistance by ohming between the black common and the coil conductors. Coil resistance is 93 - 126 ohms. It would help people if you edited your User CP profile & put your bike year & model in it show it shows up by your avatar. See mine above in this post. Gary
  4. I think you have to remove middle drive cover. It's the one with the gear shift pattern on it. I could be wrong here though. Bike is in no condition to verify that. Best picture I have of it is from my parts bike below Gary
  5. What Squeeze said is the best start to locating problems. Below is a link to the schematics for the 1st gen ventures. Look at the simplified version for the 83 TK, it may help with the troubleshooting. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42358 Also there are write ups to cleaning the handlebar switches at the next link. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=68 Gary
  6. Dan, I have a spare side stand switch, you are welcome to it. Send me an address, and I'll send it out tomorrow. Gary
  7. That's a fine looking piece of work. Gary
  8. Monty, I'm not trying to cut you out of a sale, but... The 83 unit may not match the 86 tach unit for style. The first picture is of an 88 unit, which I think is similar to the 86. Second picture is of the 83 unit. Note differences in Speedo & Tach faces between the units. Gary
  9. I just looked at the manual back to the 83-85. Service manual indicates to align the notches. I am guessing you don't know how they were in prior to your disassembly, So I would think they should be put in as per manual. Any other way would probably be a crap shoot. Gary
  10. Also check the steel plates. There is a very subtle difference between the outer edge profiles. One will be slightly rounded, the other, somewhat what sharp. You want the sharp sides all on the same side. I haven't heard of a difference on which way overall stack off steel plates face, just that they are all oriented the same. Gary
  11. I think she said something about going on a trip a while back. Gary
  12. Time for a new mechanic !! Always better when you can do it yourself. It gives one a better understanding, and you really care if its done right. Gary
  13. I had located them on ebay. The sets I had gotten were auto intended. Amazon link [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Hella-90mm-Headlight-Connectors-Adjusters/dp/B000CSWB4S]Amazon.com: Hella 90mm Low Beam Headlight, H9 Bulb, Connectors, Adjusters, Each: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51EKKZNERYL.@@AMEPARAM@@51EKKZNERYL[/ame] Susquehanna style link http://www.rallylights.com/Hella_90mm_Halogen_and_Xenon_HID_Headlamp_Modules.aspx Giantlight link http://www.giantlight.com.tw/product/cate_8193_1.html I have include a picture attached that shows dimension of low beam unit. High beam is similar, just shorter in length. It will only fit 83-85, MKI ventures. The headlight housuing, on the 86-93 MKII, are totally different. Gary
  14. 10% off your next wrench order. You need a second one, right? Gary
  15. Try looking at this thread. There is a PDF in first post called Relays 101 The last few pages have some sample schematics for passing & driving lights. If that doesn't help repost here or PM me and I will try to help you out some more. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43150&highlight=relay Gary
  16. There is a thread dealing with this. I sorta stole Timgray's idea last year. I saw Tim's post on his concept of the lights and made my own version. Did not at the time intend to mass produce these, still don't really. I initially made two kits. one for myself, and the extra one I sold on ebay. The only reason at the time I even made second set was because I had to buy the lights in pairs from my supplier. The thread dealing with this is: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32922&highlight=halogen+headlight I have discussed my selling this with Tim and he is alright with it. I have also attached the install manual, if anyone would care to look at it. I will also provide the detailed drawings for the adapter plates if any one is interested in making their own. Please note that what is on ebay does not include the projector bulbs or wiring harness. I will assist anyone in the selection of these. Gary
  17. What is the Iridium plug # ? Gary
  18. From what I have been able to locate on the internet, Epoxy is brake fluid resistant. I have not yet tested the epoxy for a reaction to brake fluid though. I have mixed enough epoxy to fill a bottle cap half way up. I will let it harden over night. In the morning I will remove epoxy plug from bottle cap, and submerge in brake fluid. Gary
  19. Would anyone be interested in the purchasing of replacement sight glasses for the Brake & Clutch master cylinders? I know that there are some of these that have discolored or leaked in these older bikes. I have just finished replacing both of my sight glasses with a mineral glass watch crystal. I wanted to powder coat my master cylinders. To do this, I needed to remove the sight glass as it would not take the heat of the curing process. In doing so, I destroyed the sight. I have replaced both of these now with the watch crystal. I used quick setting jewelers 2 part epoxy to bond into housing. I had to buy 3 crystals & the epoxy to meet suppliers minimum order. I have had the extra crystal soaking in brake fluid for several days now. It shows no signs of discoloration. If I could do a bulk purchase, it would cost $12.00 for two crystals, including shipping to you. If you wanted, I could also get the two part epoxy for another $5.00. I know these work on 1st gen bikes, but I am not sure about 2nd gens. The crystal I used is 17.5 mm dia., & 2mm thick. 1st picture is of old sight removed & O ring that is under it. 2nd picture is of installed crystal. Let me know if interested. Gary
  20. I drilled the top of the bolt out, then removed cover. About a 3/16" bit. There will be enough still sticking up to get a hold of with vice grips and screw out. Gary
  21. Mine did same thing on the 1300 heads. I took a heavy piece of welding rod and tapped the outboard piece out. Don't tap into metal or it may leak, just tap on joint pipe. Then took piece of welding rod and bent short hook on end and went thru out board hole and hooked indoard piece of joint pipe. Was able to get out on both stock heads. Don't need stock heads now, but at time I did. Gary
  22. As Squeeze said, 3 piece is fine. I have the heads of my 88 right now, and the old gaskets are 3 piece. My 97 Vmax heads came with the old gaskets, they are 3 piece. Gary
  23. Here is a link to simplified schematic. 83 Yamaha Venture TK Simplified Circuit Diagram Rev C.pdf There is a canceling unit, but I don't know how to by pass it. It's a digital circuit, and I have no internal schematic for it. Signal circuits are in lower left quadrant of sheet. Gary
  24. Mike, I don't know if this will help. Here is a link to the 86-87 schematic. Radio controls are in center of drawing. It doesn't have specific pin outs to the amp. 86-87 Yamaha Venture DS Wiring Diagram Rev D.pdf Gary
  25. It has worked very well for me. I have used it for the wrenches and tachs I sold here, with no problems. Gary
