  2. Me too !! I found out today I am going to be an 'Official' grandpa in September. I have 3 step grandchildren, who I was there for every birth, but this will be the first from my boys. Gary
  3. If anyone is interested, I have a complete transmission out of a 1986 with 32,000 miles on it. This is a matched set, all parts are from same bike. I got them to put in my 1983, but plans have changed now that I have the 1988, 1300 engine. Everything is included: Both transmission gear sets Middle drive gear & universal Shifter drum Shifter forks Shifter linkage Two sets of new middle drive shims. .15 & .3 mm Crankshaft balancer included. Price is $75.00 + $15.00 priority shipping to lower 48. Gary
  4. I am almost certain the generator side will not fit. I have an 83 & 88 here, and on both generator side covers, the timing plug does not intersect with the center round chrome cover. It is outside the diameter of this cover. In the picture it shows the timing hole intersecting this cover. You can see the difference in the attached pictures. Side cover on desk is from my 83. Other is clip of Vmax inserts. Gary
  5. Pictures are on the way. Gary
  6. If it would help you, I have about 40 pictures I took as I completely dissembled my 83 carbs. Send me a PM with your email address and I can send them to you. They are in a zip file. Gary
  7. Glenn, Attached is a schematic of the RSV wiring with a trailer hookup. I showed with 5 wire plug connector. Trailer is at bottom of page. It would be the cleanest setup as MiCarl suggested for you to do away with the converter that is now on your bike for the 4 wire setup. Gary
  8. Is there a brake light on each side or just one in center? Are the turn signals in a position where you could get the wiring for each one into its respective brake light if there are two? Gary
  9. Can you decipher picture I posted above? It shows wiring for a 4 wire system. If it would help, I could make a schematic tomorrow for you. Let me know. Gary
  10. This may help you a little. See attached picture. You should be able to use the lights you describe. Can you put power to each wire and determine its function? First identify ground, should be green, maybe black. Then put 12 volts to each of remaining wires and note which lights illuminate. I may be able to give you a suggestion as to rewiring. Also, I saw online, there is a converter from a 5 wire to a 4 wire system, but this was predicated on the vehicle being 5 wire. Gary
  11. This might be of interest to some of the 1st gen owners. I have one coming. 4 1/2 hour DVD video of the rebuild of a 1200 Vmax engine. Engines are very similar to Ventures. Buy it now price of $16.95 including shipping. VMax V Max Yamaha 1200cc engine assy. reference video Search on item # 310201385666 if link doesn't work. Gary
  12. Almost all of his negative feedback has happened since Feb 1st. I bought a set of anti dives from him in late Dec 09 and every thing went fine. Gary
  13. Eddie, I got my patch today. It looks great !! I feel like I belong now. Thank You, Gary
  14. I'm here for you swabby, in your time of need. Gary, Where Sarcasm is just another service I provide.
  15. Just a suggestion here They are imprinted on the tires on the bike. !!! Gary
  16. Another thing that I did when I installed zerts in arm was to take a dremel tool and make a very small groove in the bushing where the zert runs into it. I took a small cutoff wheel and ran the groove radially along the bushing. About 1/16" deep. This gives the grease a path to distribute around bushing a little better. Gary
  17. The last one where I noted they were shipping I did name it "Steering Head Bearing Nut Wrench (Fork Wrench) Shipping" http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45268 Gary
  18. See my post in the thread below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43827 Gary

  22. And thank you for helping me do this. Your scan of your tool made it possible Gary
  23. My 83 does not have the notch in the side cover that exposes the petcock. I just looked at parts fiche for 83 - 84 - 85 P/N changed in 84 for the petcock. Mine does not have reserve setting, almost sure. I also don't have the rubber straps that hold side cover on. It has a clip where rubber band is on later models. Gary
  24. I think it is only an on - off switch. No reserve setting. At least on my 83. Gary
