seat replacement
friesman replied to tomfromhull's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If youre sitting too low maybe you should see about exchanging seat with imagesinthewind as they are having trouble getting the seating position low enough to be able to ride comfortably. Check the thread here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=58738 Brian -
Couple issues
friesman replied to Reddog170's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I get a slight exhaust pop from a bad exhaust gasket on the left side when mine is cold but it disappears as soon as the engine is good and warm so for now ill leave it be. Some of the gaskets are easy to change out and others arent so easy. I dont know why you would be getting a pop on one shift and not another. Brian -
Repair Exhaust Collector
friesman replied to Evan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I was pretty sure I saw a thread here somewhere when a member had a baffle come loose inside the collector and cut an openeing to remove the rattle and then just took it to a welder and closed it up with a patch like you describe. brian -
Cold Blooded

I had another thought when I noticed where you live and wonder if youre getting moisture inside your tci or other wiring connections when it sits for a few days... Brian -

I am wondering if your battery is discharging a bit and you might not be getting as hot a spark on start as you are when you ride daily, maybe try a battery tender to see if it cures the issue. My 85 is always rough until it warms up, whether it sits or not, but I never have a hard starting issue. Brian -

I hope this finally cures your issue with Brownie. It would be good to see you enjoying your Venture again. Brian- 14 replies

Yep, I had a slow crank issue when hot before you changed the cables for me, but NO issues with that now. Just that pesky non-start a couple of times a year when I have to sound the horn while depressing the starter button to get it to engage the starter.....lol! Brian

If youre riding on the Trans Canada, give me a call when you go thru Regina, we can do an icecream or coffee. Also there is a sofa if you need a stopover point Brian

That sucks, It looks like gas locations have been removed, it used to show shell stations. The distance and ride times show up on the left as you look at your planned ride and plan it, but it doesnt seem to show on each leg unless youre actually planning and saving when youre logged in. Here is a route I posted just click on the map and view. http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/share/378896 Brian

+1 for Harley Ride Planner, its free, its online and it works with most gps's. It lists gas, hotels etc. Plus you can post to a webpage and email it to your relatives so they know where you might be if they need you. http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/ridePlanner.jsp

Venture Mechanic around Edmonton
friesman replied to kj1961's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Are you thinking of Rocket (a member here)? His name is Paul, lived in Wainwright AB and pretty much only worked on Ventures. He is now living on Vancouver Island, as his posting in Wainwright ended so he moved home to BC. Paul rebuilt my bike when the middle gear assy messed up and did a ton of upgrades while he had everything apart. Brian -
RSV much worse in crosswinds than 1st Gen?
friesman replied to Grisolm1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Condor might be onto something here, My 85 is solid on the road in almost any wind but it has over 300 lbs of me helping to hold it down. Ive been out in 60 mph cross winds and did some leaning but nothing like some of you guys are describing. Brian -

I would be interested in a recon cassette deck, if you have one left Brian -
I use the Scala q2 multiset too and so far I like it. I bought the multiset about a month ago for 169 bucks from one of our VR.org supporters, motorcyclegear.com. Just use the banner at the top of this page when it shows up and this group gets some benefit from them. Brian
