  1. You have to keep in mind that there are thousands of bike owners on this site and you asked for ppl to list their issues , and you got a few. I think thats pretty typical of any forum or product to hear of the owners that have the issues while the other 6 plus-thousand happy members dont say anything because they havnt had issues. My 85 is rock solid at any speed up to about 110 mph and even then it is just a mild wandering. It has always been that way. Sure it is top heavy, but a person gets used to that, but I would never get used to an unsafe bike. I would suggest you check out things that are suggested and youll probably find it was something pretty small that was causing your wandering and unsteadiness. These bikes are by no means inherently high speed dangerous. If it were me I would check for progressive springs, and if you dont have em, get them, its the best under a hundred buck upgrade you can do. Mine was bottoming out on driveway entrances etc because the stock springs were so soft. The pregoressives solved all that and now I run with no air in the front forks and no bottoming out. Brian
  2. Here is the link, but I seem to remember paying quite a bit less, maybe I got a sale? (or maybe I am wrong....that wouldnt be the first time by a long shot) http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/p02.htm Brian
  3. I am loving this warmest winter we have had for years, ESPECIALLY after last winters record cold AND snow..... They can keep all that cold weather up there, I hate it when those American cold fronts move into our airspace.... , BUT, we Canadians will happily send it farther south to share with our southern friends if it does show up here. Brian
  4. Yes, mine pays for towing up to 100mile radius, 4 battery jumps a year, a couple of tire changes and includes a card that gives me discounts at hotels and restaurants and businesses. Brian
  5. Say there Bubber, I seem to remember you trailering to Cody last year, My 85 G1 made it down there and back and around all the passes just fine without being on a trailer! (cept for a few bug splatters along the way)
  6. I belong to CAA ( same as AAA) and have the RV premiere package, I think its 110year. (cant find the bill) but I get that rather than the RV plus as they will take you to a shop in a 100 mile circle not a 50 mile circle in the event of a breakdown. Around here that is the differenc between a good shop and a bad one, or maybe not even being any MC shop in the 50 mile circle. It includes both the car and bike, plus any vehicle I might be riding in. Brian
  7. Happy Birthday Gary!!!!!
  8. I always used a m/c jack on the exhaust collector, never had an issue. Brian
  9. Otter is pretty much the only phone covers/holsters my employer will buy for us now. They have stood behind everything we have had issues with,.... there hasnt been very many issues but all have been totally taken care of. Great Service!!!!!

  13. I will never use Norton as it is a performance hog and installs a bunch of stuff with it that you dont want, unless you carefully watch your install and deselect what isnt needed. Mcafee will never grace one of my machines ever again either as we used them with good results for years with the schools. But they kept raising the price up and up every year until our price was over 75k a year. So we changed to Sophos with similar features for less than 50% of the cost. Then Mcafee threatened to sue us if anyof our computers tried to connect with their server for updates after the chageover date two days later. In the original price negotiations McAfee kept dragging their feet as we were trying to get prices out of them so we didnt have any time at all to get all 6000 desktops changed over, but, we made it. I felt McAfee was being totally unreasonable by making that statement. BTW Sophos was ended up being much easier to use and very current with updates every 10 minutes. Excellent product. I liked it much better than the MS Forefront product we use now, that decision was made strictly on price as the provincial govt signed an agreement where any MS product as free for education. its clunky to administer and has missed a couple of nasty viruses. 14. Something else to consider when buying a generator, it may not be a deal breaker for you but if youre planning for a long term catastrophic outage.... I was on the planning group for the selection of a new large generator at work and we looked at propane and natural gas but ended up selecting the Cat diesel generator. Our reasons were that in a catastrophic event you will more likely to be able to get diesel fuel than either nat gas or propane. I would think the same would apply for the smaller generators but the selection of gasoline might be easier to source than propane or nat gas, depending on your area. Brian
  15. You're going to have issues working in the states unless you're a us citizen also. My 1st ex lives in Birmingham ab and hasn't been able to take a job in the 8 yrs she has been there.
  16. Just curious how you lifted it up? did you face it and lift the he man way (like the way I used to do it before I learned of the Ride like a pro dvd) or did you put your back toward the bike and butt on the seat with hands on the handle bars and grab bar and walk it up Brian
  17. Yeah, i have priced them. but they arent available for a 83-85 anymore.( or did I miss something...?) I was thinking that my budget was gonna be in the used range. Brian
  18. My condolences to your whole family at this sad time. Brian
  19. I am hoping I can get another year outta my rotors on the 85, I should probably be looking at these, but am finding the price a bit steep. Brian
  20. thanks Bubber!
  21. have a good trip, and enjoy your time away from the great white! Brian
  22. I believe that they came as a Venture Royale with radio, class, etc, or the standard without the radio, class or cruise. thats it, I think it was a matter of keeping things simple brian
  23. one more thing, fuel- Keep the tank full to prevent condensation, ESPECIALLY if you park in a heated garage, the part of the tank with no gas in it gets really covered in ice with the temperature changes. I keep a can of seafoam and gasline antifreeze in the truck at all times, although its been a few years since ive needed it with the alcohol being added to our gas now Well, ok another thing---Also if its really cold (-25c), dont add air to your tires unless you really need to, as most compressors are inside the garages and the warm moist air raises all kinds of condensation and freezing issues with the Schrader valves in the valvestem, usually sticking them open. In the warm winter weather my tires are probably a couple of pounds overinflated so when the temps get real cold I dont have an issue with low air pressure as a low tire (not flat) thats frozen with the flatspot on the bottom and will keep you from moving anywhere. Brian Brian
  24. Pavement is rough......wear your gear.....but this is such a bizarre demonstration.... [ame=http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/82204329/]Scraping Hand on Pavement Video[/ame] Brian
  25. Yup, my 2007 4x4 Escape sounded like everything was creaking on Tuesday morning and it takes the engine a lot more work to get a truck moving when its cold like it is right now so it sounds like its running fast and you will find that he wont have any suspension for a mile or2 either. Ive got OEM Continental tires on my Escape and they were frozen square on the bottom on Tues morning at -32c Most other tires Ive had in the past dont get frozen like that until closer to -40c (-40f also) but those Contis are awful. He will need a new battery to crank it over (i only get 4 years outta most of mine) and he should have a block heater installed so he can plug the heater in to make it start easily and not be too hard on the engine on a cold start. (He should try to use a timer if he can as the block heaters suck up a bunch of power, I find 2 or 3 hours on power before you need the car to start really helps it start more easily. Also he should check his antifreeze to make sure its good to at least -50c if its only good to -40c and the temp actually gets there the antifreeze will gel causing the truck to overheat probably needing a tow into a heated garage to thaw out overnight. Something that the old truckers use to generate more heat in the truck is to block off the grill (buy a winterfront at Canadian tire or use cardboard) so all the frigid air doesnt go thru the radiator, but you gotta remember to pull it off once the temps heat up outside. Call me or message me if you need something, I have a couple of friends in Estevan where your son is that drive tanker trucks for the oil companies, that can give him some help if needed. Brian
