  1. I have 4 openers and none of them work properly! Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for.
  2. rain? Oh ya! I remember rain... liquid snow!
  3. You mean like this. More on it here. I can open it up for pin out connections if you need. It also has audio jack for GPS. Scotty
  4. I had several buttons on mine that were dead. I think water gets in the button itself and corodes the contacts. I found replacement buttons in a VCR that I was throwing away. It hasn't bothered since but it has only been 2 years. On the upside - I kept the circuit board from the VCR in case I needed to replace more buttons.
  5. Near as I can figure, this is what he built. IF that is the case I was wondering if it is getting a voltage drop through the original horns dropping the relay? There are a lot of other loads on that circuit. You may have to rewire the original horns like pic 2. Just guessing here as it is hard to see those electrons from this distance.

    spring please

You get 2 points! A Cockshutt 30 I pulled out of the bush. I literally had to cut a tree down to get it out. Converting it to 12 volts and electronic ignition were 2 of the best upgrades. I think co-op bought there tractors from cockshutt at the time but that predates me.
  7. hyway 1a east bound. just to wet your appetite. Have fun!
  8. making assumptions on which way you are heading-- The stampede will usually affect just Calgary and immediate surrounding area. You should be able to skirt around it. From the day before till the day after the event traffic is bad and then it returns to normal. Sounds like the stampede will over by the time you get anywhere near there. Banff can be quite touristy and expensive, but scenic. If leaving heading toward calgary, and not in a rush, I suggest highway 1A. Very slow but also scenic. Other events to skip if you don't like crowds: Edmonton Capital EX is july 17 - 26, stay out of edmonton. Big valley jamboree is july 30 - aug 2, It doubles the population of Camrose. (we usually leave). on the upside- my holidays start on the 18th. If I see you on the road I will wave back. (just so you will know it's me!). Enjoy your holiday!!!!

    spring please

I am getting tired of pushing snow off of the driveway. Spring can happen any time. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uddsey3yKc]YouTube - march snow 09[/ame]
  10. I did it the easy way, I took a hammer and created a couple of extra joints in each finger. on the upside - it was also handy for installing throttle cables. (actually I have a very long pair of needle nose pliers)
  11. you know, if I had to buy a new bike I might just come home with an LT myself. I hope you enjoy it!
  12. The first gens can also have the cassette removed. Makes for great Ipod holder. On the upside - there is no limit to what you can do with that big gapping hole when the deck is removed, like install an optional USB bus.
  13. As I understand the system (in my limited Knowledge), The CMS is looking for a voltage drop to the headlight indicating that there is a good load. Lack of a voltage drop would set off the alarm. The reserve lighting unit then kicks in and turns on the other element. If low beam is out then high beam turns on irregardless of dimmer switch position. There seem to be a lot of redundant backups, I guess the engineers didn't want you be in the dark. On the upside its just a little red blinky light, how hard could that be to fix?
  14. you would be amazed at how noisy a sparrow can be at 80MPH bouncing off the center of your visor. That will wake you up.
  15. I bought mine july 23/2006 with 82000Km. Now has 106776Km. Hoping to use it more this year.
  16. As with ANY machine age will play a factor. Plastic and seals deteriorate with time. They are well built machines though and it should serve you well. Since I have had mine over the last 3 years I have done the clutch, rear bushings, front forks, second gear, stator, throttle cables and clutch slave cylinder. Not a bad list considering. I rolled the odometer over to all zeros just past hope BC last summer. 7000Km on it now. I hope this helps. On the upside - its a first gen.
  17. Last year we traveled with no plan and no agenda. We are planning the same thing this year.
  18. Mental note: do not put the spare container of brake fluid with a poor lid in the left saddle bag. Mine now has a new fiberglass bottom. I have so much fiberglass on the inside of the plastic, one of these days I will hit a bump and all of the plastic will disappear. It will still look the same...just semi transparent.
  19. My very first bike was a home made thing with airplane tires and a lawnmower engine. After a few incidences, (not equipped with brakes) I got a 100 enduro. When I turned 16 and got my licence I got a yamaha 250 exciter. I dated a hot cutie on that bike. Currently on loan to my brother in law is my 550 maxim. I married a hot cutie on that bike. The kawasaki vulcan has been sold. The last 2 years has been my 84 VR. I took a hot cutie on our 20th anniversary on that bike.
  20. Likely the slave cylinder has gone bad and leaked the fluid out while it was sitting. You are right that the first thing to do is bleed it and see if it works/leaks. On the upside its cheap to rebuild and not that hard. Hope this helps, scotty
  21. Well I would have to say that she Definitely has bragging rights. "yup, I fell on a RSV and got 50 stitches but the bike is OK." ( we will just omit the other small details.) Have responses ready for the invariable question..."will you ride again?":smile5:
  22. There are as many opinions on this subject as there are people. All of them are right. I do have some experience with combines. ( they sit for 11 months and work like dogs for 3 weeks) Other than the A/C system they do not seem to suffer many ill effects from storage. If you are starting it I would let it run to full operating temp. now for my:2cents: If it is in cold storage I would let her sit till spring. If it is in a heated garage then I would highly recommend that you frequently sit on it and make vroom vroom noises.
  23. I really like my electronic cruise control. I am convinced that it saves me about $400 a week.
  24. You are too late as I have already mailed them to mother. I am currently a shimless character. I noticed on mine that the front two cylinders required more adjustment than the rear two. #3 only needed adjustment to 1 valve where as #2 and #4 were all tight. Anybody else have this? Scotty
  25. As far as cost,I can't help much there. My brother in law's company deals with that stuff, so for christmas he bought me the domain and keeps it up. All he wants in return is more articles. (he is almost as warped as me) As far as building the site, it's not that hard if you keep it simple. I use go live and it will do a whole bunch of cool stuff that I know nothing about. I keep mine simple 'cause I'm not smart enough to make it cool. http://www.delusional-mechanic.com/
