  1. PM me with your address and I will mail them to you. Thanks Scotty
  2. I have 7 shims left over from this winters adjustment if someone can let me know where to send them. I had to build my own high tec precision tool to hold the bucket down. Nice spread sheet!
  3. in alberta the motorcycle license is just part of the drivers license. plates cost $48 a year. insurance varies depending on what you get. I pay $106 a year but that is just $1M PL/PD. If it get stolen or wrecked it's just gone. I live out of town and my last ticket was in 1993. My friend has collision and all perils on a new C50 and is paying $800 just for insurance.
  4. In 1983 the Cycle Canada October issue did a feature on the Venture Royal and I was in love. I was 17 at the time, dating a cutie who hung on the back of my '81 Yamaha 250. Fast forward to the summer of 2006, my kawi 750 had a death rattle. I started looking close to home but the financial advisor (re: wife- cutie from 1983) recommended restraint at the dealership. Started checking out the classifieds, the best options were a 3 1/2 hour drive. Taking cash in hand; the financial advisor had squirreled away, we headed south, on the hottest day of the summer. The air conditioning cratered-- but onward soldier. As we drove up the back alley, we saw money change hands on the sale of the VR. Gotta love first come first serve. Pulled out the classifieds again, lo and behold found another for sale...A 1984 with just 80 000km. I left the yard on the biggest bike I had ever ridden, in a city I've never driven, in a downpour, through construction in rush hour. Life is good. I still have that October 1983 Cycle Canada issue.
  5. How do we cope with the winter in the north? Well, after I get tired of the long straight highway, I take it off the center stand and enjoy the left hand sweepers for a month or two. I have been considering building a side stand for the right side of the bike. Scotty
  6. the highways are: #8 from merritt to spences bridge #4 from port alberni to long beach #1 through rogers pass Scotty
  7. Cool! that looks like fun, I wanna try. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=och7VhpSQ4g]YouTube - BC bike trip[/ame] Misc. vids from last year.
  8. I have mine tied into the intercom. I deleted the cassette deck and have the audio come in though there. I pod is also tied in that way. I used a switch to go between stereo and GPS/Ipod. sound will come out the speakers or headset just like the cassette would. If interested I have more info on this and the CB connector.
  9. Your math looks good to me. I get 34 cents/million BTUs cheaper. Of course that will vary depending of a lot of variables and efficiencies. The break even point will be a factor of cost of install and amount of BTUs used. But then again, what I am using to heat my house I wouldn't listen to me. I am the squirrelest person I know.
  10. As mentioned stacking gaskets will not work. There are a lot of products that will help seal a stubborn gasket. My personal favorite is loctite 515. A thin film of this on both sides of the gasket and it won't leak! This stuff seals under compression, if there is a gap or a hole in the housings it will not work at all. The other nice quality is you can throw what's left on shelf for years and it is still good. The local NAPA carries it. Just one mechanics opinion:2cents:
  11. We never had hills big enough to warrant building a go cart. I did build a hang glider. It never worked well. I dropped like a rock off the garage roof:superman:
  12. Just for your info, I had a charging issue this fall. It would keep up on the highway but the battery would lose ground with any extra load including brake light, signal light or a good song on the radio. For the last 3 weeks of the ridding season I avoided stopping, used a lot of hand signals and charged the battery 3 times a week;). The stator tested fine with an ohmeter and load tested fine. Other than a few small voltage drops the rest of the system was good. I removed the stator and found it to be burnt. (I'm sure there is a shorted winding in there somewhere) New stator installed and it once again charges like it used to. Electrical issues are not always cut and dry.
  13. My wife complains about pressure points on longer days. She says the sheep skin helps. I told her that the problem is easily rectified by simply replacing the stock unit with a complete 2009 RSV. She wouldn't go for that.

    RV ?

of the motorhomes that I have worked on I have seen 3 basic chassis types. automotive- built on a 1 or 2 ton truck frame, almost never has a tag axel, hydrolic brakes, gas engine. Usually built by GM ford or dodge. heavy- uses highway truck parts, may or may not have a tag, air brakes, air suspension, industrial diesel (cummins, detroit), most are built by freightliner under a variaty of names and configurations. MCI- this is a commercial bus chassis built by MCI. always has a tag axel. Very high quality but scary expensive to fix. If you intend to put a few miles on it you will want a diesel. I have no idea how many times I have ben asked if I can get more mileage out of their 454. As far as repair cost goes, it will cost more than the same repair on a truck due to accessibility. Also has anyone ever tried to set valves in some ones bedroom with white plush carpets. Scotty
  15. how about like this Click on the globe with the little paper clip thingy. I hope this works:o

I was talking to my niece over the holidays. Part of her job is bat battling spybots and such. She said she likes the "honey pot" (an invisible text field or check box). She also uses the "3 second rule" ( if the form is returned in less than 3 sec, it was not done by a person) You may already aware of this in which case I have wasted a bunch of 1s and 0s, if not it may give you an extra set of teeth....SICK EM!! I believe I can get more info if you need. Scotty
  17. Coolent is a very funny fluid. I have seen coolent leaks appear only when the engine is hot, only when the engine is cold, only during warm up, only during cool down. As far as it deciding to leak now, well, it had to pick some time to fail and it picked now. If the puddle is in the front right area it could be the thermostat housing seals. Mine leaked last summer only when the engine was dead cold. I hope this helps Scotty
  18. I just got the video on fri. It's very good! Seeing that it is -30C for a high today we only tried a few of the tips. The 2x4 trick really helped my daughter with clutch control. Scotty
  19. I have one on the floor of the garage. New one just showed up today. You are welcome to it. Scotty
  20. me and the wife, long beach vancouver island. Not the best pic but brings back the best memories.
  21. When I was a kid I lost a front tire on the highway. Lesson 1) Check your tires. So I find myself skidding down the road and I sit up witch results in 3 high speed somersaults. Lesson 2) Don't sit up. I was thinking that was really stupid and I won't do that again. I roll onto my back and look at the clouds for an hour or so before I try to sit up enough to see if i'm stopped. This resulted in a duplicate set of the high speed somersaults. Lesson 3 ) It can take a long time to stop. Sure glad I had a good helmut on! In the end I had a collar bone broken in 2 places and a badly sprained ankle but I walked away from it... about a mile and a half to get help. Lesson 4) learned that when a project is overwhelming focus on short term goals in the right direction. New goal..move left foot forward.....done New goal move right foot forward....done
  22. Been there, done that. I remember well the crash of 1987 on my maxim 550. Power wobble at terminal speed. The first ride after the bike and I were in road worthy condition I found myself going 60Km/h down the highway and scared spitless. I figured that I had 2 options. A- twist the throttle and let the chips fall where they may. B- go home and sell the bike. I picked A and instantly all was right with the world. I wonder if this is a common reaction? It has my curiosity up. Scotty
  23. I would think HOW you use your GPS would be a huge influence on what kind you get. I have mine wired into the intercom so audio out jack is important to me. I don't really look at it while i'm driving but I do have it set so it displays a large black circle with the next turn arrow in white. Its visable at a glance in most daylight conditions. It also charges from the USB bus so I had to build a powered USB bus for the bike. It is also the cheapest one I could buy. (It hurst lees if it gets wrecked) I have also used it to locate the nearest tim hortons. If you can figure out what you want it to do for you then you know what features to look for. Scotty
  24. I read the threads and it is MY opinion that it is time for me to go out to the garage and continue to dismantal my bike.
  25. The school bike fails! - needs reflective tape on sides - dose not have amber and red flashing lights on front and rear as high and far apart as practical - emergency exits not clearly marked
