If the bike still can crank once it shuts down then it is not the battery. If there is enough battery to turn the engine over then there is more than enough to run the bike.

She would die in my house..........

Its warm enough here you could have just ridden down there instead of having to resort to Have fun, wish I could go.

Fist off, dropping a cylinder on these bikes is barely noticeable. They run quite well on 3 cylinders. When it does quit running, how does it die? Does it run rough and sputter out or does it just suddenly turn off? A sudden shut down I would lean toward an electrical issue and sputtering out I would lean toward a fuel delivery issue.

Original Flasher Modification
Flyinfool replied to Hotrod's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have looked at this mod before. To bad it will not work on a 1st Gen. -
If they charge by the foot for storage, it might be worth while to take the tongue off or make it into a folding tongue. Folding tongues are getting popular on boat trailers so that they will fit in a garage. Just a thought.

There ya go. Giving me ideas again. I need that addition for rush hour traffic or getting thru Chicago. Enter shopping mode..........

It is supposed to 53 with rain hard Friday into Saturday morning here and then the temps are to plummet into the teens for a high by Sunday. If it looks to be getting nice by Sat afternoon maybe I'll have to run out and get that new battery to sneak in a ride. DOH! I almost forgot, I can not legally ride my bike in January here....... I'll be sure to forward this weather on to the east........

Some of my observations. There is no lubrication system, it just uses the oil and grease applied during assembly. There were no actual bearings on the journals, so I am not sure just how many times he will be able to run it. It says that the only machines he had were a lathe and a drill press. I wonder if the drill press was lost in the translation and it was really a milling machine. Many modern diesels have glow plugs to help get them started. I did not see any sign of glow plugs on this engine. Any way you look at it, it is/was a labor of love and should be very proud of his accomplishment.

I drive faster and no one notices the goo.....

Incredible piece of engineering. OPERATIONAL THERE ARE STILL SOME REAL ENGINEERS IN THE WORLD. THIS IS AMAZING..... Watch it all the way through, he machines, assembles and runs this little engine..... This is not CNC technology; this guy made everything at home on his lathe and drill press. Took 1220 hours (a year and a half?) to make the 261 pieces. Note the end-loaded crankshaft into the block (like an Offy), 12 individual cylinder heads, TINY rods and pistons, dual "underhead" cams with pushrods to rockers in the heads. And, he did break-in runs using an electric drill driving the crankshaft! Even if you're not an engineer, you'll appreciate this! http://www.wimp.com/tiniestengine/

What does it cost to have your Drivers Licence renewed?
Flyinfool replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
$35 for 4 years here. Not sure if there is an old fart discount.... -
Erika got the flu shots and the worked perfectly, she has had some kind of plague since mid Dec. I refused to get the shot and am the only one at home or work that has not been sick in the last month.

You will have to have your hunters set up stands in the shop.

That hurts just looking at the pics........ So are you trying to imply that you don't count, or can't count??? Gary only said "were by an owner of an RSV." he never said it was an only bike.
-
But you can not count out SF or Atlanta, after all they are the the #1 and #2 seeds. Now that would be an interesting "rematch" to have Seattle come to Green Bay for the NFC Championship game.
-
But with a 1st gen you could have crossed that spot sooner and the buck might have crossed the road behind you............just sayin...........

Actually it is the other way around, The lower the octane the more likely you are to "blow the heads off" I used to put leftover 134 octane race gas in my snow blower, lawn mower, truck, bike, and everything else just to use it up at the end of the season. unless an engine is designed and set up to run on the high octane you will actually get LESS performance out of it. I guess I never thought of it. 100LL Aviation gas would be great for winter storage.

Yup just goes to show, even an honest 2nd gen has to agree with the thread title.

Best Accessory Update for 1st Gen (cosmetic and otherwise)

Yup, the 2nd gens come in second behind the 1st gens, again......... Just proves the old adage, "If it don't go, chrome it" . -
So what kind of electrical connector is on this trailer? Flat 4 wire? Flat 5 wire? Other? It might make a difference as to who can pull it. Might also make a difference once Annie gets here.
-
I did not see anywhere mentioning that it is a bi-xenon bulb. You really do not want to give up your high beam.

With the diodes that last digit is the voltage rating. A 1N4001 is the lowest voltage rating at 50 V. The highest rating is 1000 V. That is why any last digit will work with our 14V systems. That same wiring diagram is on this site in a bunch of places also. -
HF does not know what grease is. You must clean and grease all bearings. Bearing Buddies replace the dust cap and have a grease fitting in the middle. There is a spring loaded diaphragm to take up sudden expansion and contraction do to the sudden temperature change when the hubs of a boat trailer get submerged in water. IMHO Bearing Buddies are only needed on boat trailers. The HF trailer already has a grease fitting if you want to use it. But for the first time you still want to take it apart clean the factory goo out of there and grease the bearings with a good grease.
