Folding backrest for stock seats?
Carbon_One replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the Utopia backrest and wouldn't ride without it. I don't have the quick release model but I don't plan on taking it off anyhow. It being able to fold down for ease of passenger mounting/dismounting is nice. Makes it much more easy for the Mrs. getting off & on. As to adjusting the backrest angle I do that all the time as some times I like to lean back a bit more or if the back is acting up I might sit a bit more upright. Bottom line it's worth the costs to me. Larry -
Hi Lonna. Checking here to see if you and Brad are planning on attending Carl's meet & eat this Saturday?
If you are a couple of questions if I may. When you leaving and coming home? Where you lodging if staying overnight?
Joyce and I are making plans now to go. We'll know for sure as soon as we find a dog sitter for the mutts. Anyhow depending on when you leave we might hook up and ride out with you.

You really don't need a "kit" . Just replace the mains 1 size up and the same for the pilot jets too as a starting point. I did that and I'm running the K&N filters in stock breathers and while the bike ran OK without rejets I feel that doing so gave the bike better low end and throttle response. It also inproves cold weather running. Mileage may have suffered a bit but not by much if any. On your set up you may need to go a little bigger than the 1 size up thou. Just depends on how lean the carbs are running as it is now. Stock pilot jets are #15, replace that with a #17.5. Stock mains are #117.5 , #120, & #122.5 (2each), replace only two of these , move the other two to a different carb. purchase a pair of #125 http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/ is a good source of carb parts too. I'll look tomorrow for the jet model #'s Larry

When I had my Suzuki I used some of his ideas for the bike. As noted lots of great ideas there. One of a couple ideas I adapted to the Suzuki was the Audio-Vox cruise control system. In fact I do believe I was the first Volusia owner to adapter the A-V cruise system to this bike. Another idea was adapting the Harley fairings to the Volusia. I eventually migrated to the Ventures which come with these items already on. Anyhow great ideas from the site. Larry

I've been a member here now a couple of years and while I've donated items & money for rallies and such I hit that donation button yesterday too for the 1st time. Seeing what Don has gone thur, with both labor & his money, I relized there is no "free ride" . With that in mind I will make more of an effort in donating in the future. This site is too important to let it fall to the wayside. I and I'm sure other here agree, we've all made too many friends and shared knowledge, fun times, & rides to want this site to fall off the map. Thanks Don & Moderators Larry

Looking good here too. I see there's some things not working yet, like Classifieds but all in due time. Hopefully this will be nothing but a short lived bad memory as Don and the host work things out. Way to go Don. You're quite the amazing fellow. Larry

I vote going with a fund raiser/ raffle system. Like Cindy says we might win something out of it, Don gets the site running great at no expense to him, and we all benifit with a much better site. Can't beat that I think Larry PS: I also hit that donation button.

Ok Bubber. $135 delivered on the Freestanding model. Larry
-
Bubber I've only made one so far and that was for me. It will use the same mounting set up as the other two adapters I make with the exception of being much longer and have an additional support. I'll have to crunch some numbers as to cost since it requires at least 3 1/2- 4 feet more steel. On my bike the balance point has shifted to at least a foot toward the rear. Drop me a e-mail at lskeels@wowway.com and I'll post up some pics for you. Also work out other details that you may need to consider. Same goes for any other trikers out there using these bikes. Larry

Good luck on your soon to be new ride Ken. I hope we can meet up some time. Will you be attending Don's Maintenance day? Would love to see your bike up close. Larry BTW: I have designed a lift adapter for the RSV trikes too. Drop me a e-mail and I'll send some pics of it.

Let us know when you get something in print. Enjoy the "job"?. Nah that ain't not job. Have fun just the same Larry

Good job. I love it when these bikes are restored opposed to parting them out. Now I wonder if this was DenDen's wrecked bike? Probably not as I think his had more damage but ya never know. Larry

There's been a couple of guys who have bought my adapter and added their own set of swivel wheels to the legs. I tried once but the wheels I used had rubber and they made it hard to move. Something with a hard set of wheels is the way to go if doing this. Larry

Yep he's the real deal there. I've seen him preform once at a sportsmans show many years ago. The film don't do the guy justice. He also can get 2 shots off so fast that it sounds as one. Not only that but he's quite the marksman as well thou his speciality id fast shooting. Larry

Great idea Boss. But unless you get some volunteers to cook the pig I say hire it done. You and others have enough going on without adding more work for yourselves. You all need to enjoy the time too and not just be work hogs. Yea I see you're not asking or setting any prices there to attend your cookout but even with a donation jar you might reconsider some sort of minumin cover charge. Especially if hiring the pig cooking done. just my here. Larry

I'll 2nd this suggestion as well. Simple to into install and so bright you you'll wonder why they don't come stock. Even without a flasher modulator they're awesome. Welll worth their cost. Larry
