  1. Can anyone tell me how to contact the Yamaha Warranty Service Rep. As some of you will remember my RSTD ran hot. With some assistance from my friends here we pretty much feel assured that it has a blown head gasket. The bike has been in the shop going on 4 weeks now with very little being done to get it repaired. The 1st week the service manager told me he had couple of big jobs in front of me so it would be the following Tuesday before they could get started. I'm not thrilled buy am okay with that as I know how these shops work. He also tells me until the last few weeks he has never had a RSTD in his shop for repairs which does make me feel better about the quality of the engine. Anyway... Three more weeks have passed and they have yet to diagnosis the problem. Their reasoning is they do not have the proper size fitting for the radiator pressure tester. This is a Yamaha dealer, they should have the proper tools. He says he has been trying to find one but to no avail. I just can't believe that in 3 additional weeks they can not lay hands on something they should have in their service bay. Then after he does diagnose he tells me it will be an additional 2or more weeks for them to get the warranty approval and then order parts and then do the repairs. I think I have been more than patience but that is quickly running out. So how do I light a fire under their backside. Who do I call? I have a call into the manager now but I want to go higher than that. Thanks.
  2. Where would I find the listing for the head bolts in the parts fiche? 1988 1300 MKII I have looked in the Head & crankcase sections, as well as others, but I can't seem to find them. I may need to replace a few here in a few weeks, may not need to. Just trying to find a listing for them. Anybody got a recommendation on procedure to remove them from the crankcase? Normally I use Partshark.com Gary
  3. Anyone recognise this beauty from a few years back? It was the one and only RSV I saw in two weeks and four states!
  4. I had a previous thread about this ride, but neither Beth or I knew when we could get vacation. Well, we have a choice to make now: A) Last two weeks of July B) First two weeks of September What do you recommend, and why? Thanks again for everyone's help. gunk:confused24:
  5. Seems like the site has been pretty sluggish for a few weeks now. I just had some optimization done on the server. Hopefully it will help.
  6. Been a while since I've posted, "life" gets in the way. Gayle and myself are heading to Waikiki for a couple of weeks next week. Lots of things to do in 2 weeks but just wondering if anyone has been and has a suggestion of those not to miss places or things to do. Bike shop is right next door to were we are staying so that is on the list. We are 2 blocks from Waikiki beach, walking distance to Diamond head and looking forward to getting away. 8 more:draming: Hal
  7. Doing the left eye first! And of course with the oily environment at work, I'm forced to take the next 2 weeks off on DB! Breaks my heart...
  8. zooer

    Holy crap!

Wow, I got two rides in today! It warmed up over 40 F. After the past two weeks that called for rides. :cool10: Hope some of ya's were as lucky.
  9. I'm just curious if anybody here has done much business with China and has had any packages shipped here to the US. I ordered a laptop battery on 11/17/2010 on ebay and I still haven't received it. After 5 weeks with no delivery and the information available via the tracking number having not been updates since 11/19/2010, the sender finally sent out another battery on 12/25/2010. Now that tracking information on that battery hasn't been updated since 12/27/2010. I asked that he use an express method for the second shipment, but he chose to use the same service in spite. How long should it take to get a small package from China? Jeannie ordered a handmade dress from China for our wedding after I ordered my battery and she got it last week already. I just don't know for sure if I should file a complaint with ebay or just be more patient. Seven weeks seems like an awful long time. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill
  10. Im not a story teller nor good with words. In short Brad and Lonna,(Squidley and Sweetnothing) came over for the weekend..I knew they were coming but should have known, knowing Brad and Lonna, that they had more of a reason than "just getting away from the rat race". Thanks to both for helping with a few things I have been unable to do the last few weeks, simple things like not being able to get the Christmas Tree down, Cutting some limbs off of a big oak tree in front, putting light bulbs in where they had been burned out the last few weeks. I want to thank them for everything they did but most of all bringing the Christmas Spirit to our home this year. We went to Johnson City last night to see the lights there..Beautiful site if you have never seen it. Debby couldnt last long because of her health problems but She enjoyed it. Brad,Lonna after you left Debby started looking at the decorations and like I figured She put up the blue lights on the tree and has been looking at the tree most of this afternoon. I was thinking afterwards....sometimes I do things just to help another and never thought about it much but as I was sitting here after they left I remembered I have always heard if you give you will receive 10 fold.....I have. An early Christmas greeting for all..Have a Merry Christmas!
  11. After lunch today, 150 miles into a 250 mile ride, my riding buddy, Ron, informed me that since our last ride (about six weeks ago) he: A. Finally retired, last Friday. B. Divorced his wife of 40+ years C. Is selling his house and moving to Brazil in a couple of weeks D. His son is storing the bike for him and he will be back in March to see the doctor and wants to ride again then. And that was that. I just said, "Ok, cool." and we went outside to talk to a guy about the custom paint on his Harley night-train. Surreal, but I have then decided that rider friends are just lower maintenance than other friends and life is just the crap that happens between rides.
  12. After 10 years and 135K mostly trouble free miles on my RSV I finally decided to replace her a few weeks ago with an 08 Wing. There were a few things that I wanted to do to the RSV before I put it up for sale. The CB hasn't worked right for years and the cruise control seemed "weak" but I never used them anyway, so wasn't to concerned at the time and let it go. Thought I had better see if I could get them working better for the next owner. Short story is that three weeks ago I put the bike in my shop and started tinkering with it, getting things cleaned and fixed up. Changed oil, plugs, etc. Went down there this morning to do a couple things (getting out of the house mostly) and guess what...the rear shock has puked all over the floor!!! Just setting there! I guess this is revenge from the old girl for replacing her with a newer model. Had a wife like that once. Anyone interested in a great running 99 RSV that still needs work, pretty cheap?
  13. I am not a man who harbors a lot of unrealistic expectations; keeping it real just makes real contentment so much more likely. I am often pragmatic to a fault and will go with the flow when others might have made waves. Two weeks ago I found myself at a dealership looking at a 5 year old motorcycle that was really not the one I wanted; the one I was lusting after, but one that fit my needs AND my budget in a way that the one I really wanted won’t until after both my daughters are out of college. Beautiful, and powerful, and with only 5000 miles on the odometer obviously not much used. A small shallow scratch near the lock on the right saddle bag and a smallish dimple in her tank where someone dropped a cell phone were the only things that kept her from looking show-room new. And then there was the label. Right there on the tank where it had been carefully placed all those years ago before the first gas found her carbs. Honestly, I am not at all certain why it bothered me, but at a stop light on my test ride I found myself picking at the corners of it; which is probably not the best thing to be doing before one signs the papers. “Why would someone leave that label there?” I wondered “and how the heck am I going to get it off after all this time?” “Penny”, I named her right there in the show room because she shined like a new one; and for two weeks and over 1000 miles, some touring and some my normal commute, we have gotten to know each other. She is achingly pretty and oh so nice but not the one I thought I wanted and I fear that like two shy people completing a marriage arranged for them as children, we got off an awkward start. And then there was the label… staring at me every mile, reminding me to wear my helmet, picking at the corner of my vision. “Unclaimed”, I decided, the label makes her look unclaimed, as though the first guy who took her home from the dealer did not care enough about her to take the time to carefully peel it off and let her shiny black paint see the sun. For two weeks now, I have absentmindedly picked at it ,of course, and so it was worse than ever, dog eared and sticky. Until today, when after a couple of very nice rides together in the autumn sunshine I finally did battle with that label. After 5 or 6 years it was really not in any hurry to let go, it clung to her paint, just above her cute little dimple, for all that is was worth but I am a very patient man and so 4 fresh terry towels, a hair dryer, WD-40 and elbow grease eventually prevailed. As I took a fresh, clean, towel and removed the last vestiges of that label, it occurred to me that I have claimed her as my own and like that young “arranged” husband looking across the table at his new bride, I have realized that sometimes love does not come the way that we expect it to and that this thing, this shiny new thing devoid of that label, is just the thing I should have wanted all along.
  14. I was 20 miles from home today and we had an fine snow and ice storm roll through about 10:30am. I'm two weeks from finishing the scoot shed for winter storage. Glad I took that 250 mile ride last weekend. Winter is coming on quick.
  15. well my radio went bad the third week of April took it to the dealer they sent it off told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks so i said ok well 9 weeks later got the controler back it was good so they wanted my amp so they took it off and sent it off a little bit after the 4th of july so now its been 15 weeks. so today i called to see if they had lost my number so i got the service manager on the phone and he started to apolgize about how he didnt follow up on it and that he would call clairon right away and that it shouldnt have been this long. an hour later i get a call back from the dealer he said he just got off the phone with them and they told him that they had no idea what he was talking about so he gets the tracking info and faxes them the tracking number and who signed for it on what day and time so guess what they have lost my AMP he says he told them that that wsant good enough that his costomer (me) has been waiting for 15 weeks and wanted to know what they plan to do about it so guess what they said that they would send me a brand new one in two days so after 24 weeks i finaly get to hear music:680: again.
  16. For the past two years I've been looking at the RSV and waiting for the right bike to come along. Two and a half weeks ago (July 20th) I came across a 2009 RSV with only 2500km (have added 1300km since). Original owner had it 4 months. My background is that I got my M license in 1990 (first bike was an '81 KZ305 which I put 20,000km on, second bike which I still have is a 1999 Virago 1100 which I've put 54,000km on). I'm still getting used to the RSV so thinking 2011 I'll do a Canada East Coast trip and plan the big trip for 2012. The "dream ride" is from Kitchener (60 miles west of Toronto) to Chicago to pick up Rt 66 and follow it to California (2 weeks). From there, Pacific Coast highway up to Vancouver (1 week), and then across Canada (1 week) to home. Not looking to do straight milage as this will be a 2-up trip and will be sight seeing along the way. Might extend it to 5 weeks once I lay out the final plans. What I'm wondering is .... when is the best time of the year to do this trip? Being in Canada and wanting to avoid leaving or returning when there is snow on the ground.... my window is basically May - Oct. Considering that I'd be following what used to be Rt 66 and going thru Texas/Arizona and how hot it can be during July/Aug.... when are the best months to go thru these States to avoid the hottest/wettest months?
  17. MY 2009 RSV had a fuel smell even when gas was shut off for hours after it was shutdown. Should it take the dealer over two weeks to get parts to fix this? he said 3 to 5 days for a carb gasket?
  18. In the past, I've used the Scala Rider teamset, and it worked great for what it was. It was also $300 at the time. I'm not sure what it runs nowadays, but I talked my father in law into ordering a knock-off version and he loves it! I just figured I'd share. The shipping was a bit slow, taking around 2 weeks... I've ordered from thei company before, they have a LOT of gizmos and gadgets that are straight from Hong Kong... Here's a link to the headset if anyone is interested! http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.35612
  19. I've again, been thinking about a m/c trip to Alaska. I figured on riding to Alaska, then shipping the bike back. - Is this cheating? I CAN take 4 weeks off work, but would rather take 3. Do you think a person could travel from Omaha to Washington, then up the coast to Alaska in 3 weeks? I haven't looked at a map yet to figure out the path. I have a cousin in N.E. Washington that I would like to stop and see for a day on the way up. craigr
  20. Redneck Bike Washin' , Finally Rained , Finally cooled off, Priceless, Does it matter , ??? Time to wash the bike after 7 weeks of road grime. Got to join 100+ bikes tomorrow to lead in the worlds largest truck parade in Waupun, WI . It's also a fund raiser for Make A Wish. Hopefully I can post another pic of 4 local Ventures with our ABATE group tomorrow night. And it's finally cooled off a bit after 2 weeks of killer heat, for our neck of the woods anyways. So here we are after a few cocktails, with the bike out in the rain, and a soapy rag, .... Savin' on the city water bill, PRICELESS ! Later, Scooter Bob and Karen
  21. Will be leaving Seymour about 7:00 am for 5 or 6 days out. Then we will have to turn around and come home. Friends of mine are going to ride all the way to the coast and back on 66. They plan on taking 5 weeks. Hoping to make it to Pueblo,Co. before we have to turn around. We will be taking I 70 home. Will be taking the laptop with us and would like to maybe meet some of you guys & gals on the way back home. As will be riding back by ourselves.
  22. Guys, I would really like to find someone who has a front wheel for a 2nd gen that I could run while I am having mine Chromed. I would pay for shipping. I would like to find one close to Oklahoma if possible I will just need it about 5 weeks. I am also checking salvage yards but I really don't want to but one. It cost 275.00 to have your wheel chromed and takes 4 weeks or you can exchange for 400.00 so if shipping is 25.00 ea way and I could save about 50.00 to 75.00 that is worth a little trouble. Other wise I will prolly just wait for winter.
  23. Allrighty. I'm taking orders, if interrested. Please allow 3 - 4 weeks delivery. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3040&title=dash-gauges2b-tachometer&cat=7
  24. Not being totally familiar with the RSV (Yet) I know that the bike needs a oil change, wont get into the oil stuff, but do need to know what a cross number or Filter number would be. The closest Stealer is 75 or so miles away. The previous owner didn't offer up to much except it needed an oil change, and had 3 Qt's of oil for me. Basically I forgot to ask what had been done when,,,. Being as I will have it down to the frame here in a couple of weeks I plan on doing plugs, and some wiring tidying up etc, checking things out. I have a shop manual in PDF that will help on most of what I need to look at and do forward of the seat. The back I have down pretty good....
  25. saw the quack i mean doc today. blood preasure is still a little high but not bad. headaches are only comming about once a week now and only if the weather changes. i swear i can predict when its going to rain. lost only 6 pounds more since getting out of the hospitial. but if ya cant walk to good you cant exersize right? went with Dianne and she got her new to her yamaha Vstar. trying to get her to post pics of it on here? if im correct its a 2005 with just over 13k on it. was lady owned? the lady that had it said shes more into 2 up with her new husband? Dianne got it for a song i think? $5300. is what she gave for it. it will need tires still has the ones that came with the bike when new. I tould her to replace them just to be safe. i did take it for a little spin .it moves darn good. she said its nothing like the ninja was. but she realy enjoys it. and for a 5 ft 5 woman? she can handle it just fine. and i like the fact that when she lets me take it for a spin. i can plant both feet on the ground with plenty of room to spare. so in 2 weeks good lord willing i can ride the venture along with her again.
