  1. Those of you looking at HD pipes, looking for slash down style. The 2011 Road Glide Customs are slash down. No I am not looking at getting rid of mine. But I thought I might throw that out there if people like that style. I like them better than any others. Most that I see are either straight cut, or slash ups. There is a pic in my profile pictures that show the pipe enough so you can see what they look like.
  2. So i tried looking around and didn't come up with much, what options are out there for exhaust? I would prefer slipons but would not be opposed to modifying the stock exhaust if there are not better options. I just want to get some sound out of it, not too much but that v4 should sound great with the right set of pipes!!!
  3. Hi guys, I have read lots about road king pipes on the forum, but as I am in the UK, there are not anywhere near the same quantity of harley pipes for sale, i have seen a few sets from other harleys though, can anyone have a look at this ebay auction for me and advise if these modded straight through pipes would fit on my RSTD ?. [ame=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Harley-Davidson-Exhausts-/280657121551?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item415877d10f]Harley Davidson Exhausts | eBay UK[/ame] Cheers
  4. I currently ride an 01 Vulcan 1500 with baffled Corbra drag pipes. I LOVE the sound of the bike. I've read that the RSV with the right mufflers sounds like a V8. How do you guys with aftermarket mufflers find they sound? If I like a bike to have a distinctive sound would I like a V4 with pipes? I realize a v4 won't sound like a single crank pin V-twin. I've ridden an RSV with stock and debaffled stock mufflers. They were both on the quiet side for my taste.
  5. I am wondering if anyone out there knows of an aftermarket set of pipes that will fit my RSTD? I cannot find anything that fits older that a 99. Will the HD road king pipes fit? I am getting the idea that they won't. Just a thought, but my brother has the stock pipes from his heritage softail hanging in the garage collecting dust.
  6. RK pipes I got for $75, and the 1 3/4" 20 degree bend pipe. I'm not too happy about the bend, but it shouldn't affect the performance much. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-23_17-34-48_914.jpg Hanging the pipes from the bag hangers. I had to drill out the threads to accept the larger bolt that threads into the pipe hanger. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-23_18-16-48_484.jpg I used some rubber grommets with a spacer inside to drop the pipes so they don't hit the bottom of the bags, and to isolate the vibration. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-24_17-52-12_618.jpg http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-24_17-58-10_692.jpg Here's what they look like from the side. I'm still working out the connector pipe dimensions, I may have to put more of a bend in it, and get the ID of the collector side expanded a bit. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-24_19-03-12_936.jpg
  7. my roadking pipes set 3 inches off the ground at rear of bike. my friend who just bought a 2005 like mine sets 6 inches off groung at same point. under the bikes look the same. how do you know if you have a lowering kit installed? bottom of my pipes are flatten , know why now. the guy i bought it from put every oem chrome part made on it and said he wanted it to look like a HD. so he bought one findly and i got the venture ,decked out and looking good. did he put a lowering kit on also. ? help someone and tell me what to look for. thanks
  8. Hey guys. jose here with my 96 rstd. I just purchased this bike 3 weeks ago. The bike had a hard time rolling when cold and also popping at idle and decel. I decided to adjust the valves and clean the carb. All intakes were tight at 27,600k miles exhaust were fine. Plugs looked good and I changed them anyway. The carbs had some gunk build up. Everything back together and the bike pulls like a monster but i get popping through the pipes at Idle. Accel and lots of popping on decel. My lil bit of experience tells me this is a rich condition allowing raw fuel in the pipes which get ignited by the heat and there fore make a popping sound in the pipes. Question if i am correct is.How do I lean this out a bit to get her running better. the bke was bought with aftermarket louder pipes. not sure the make of pipes. the baffle are still in and yet it sounds pretty loud. I have yet to spray carb cleaner by the intakes to see if any change in RPm which is what i read to do to locate and intake leak. does anyone have a pic of the pilot screws. I looked for the caps and think i found the holes to be drilled out but I am not sure http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh221/muaymendez/tag%20o%20rama/SDC10352.jpg
  9. Does anyone have a Pair of Original pipes laying around for the 2e Gen Venture. Finally I got my wife Going with me on the Bike ..But the Problem is ..My Open Pipes are to Loud for her I know many people replaced there Original pipes for other brand pipes....And I'm hoping that someone have pipes laying around that I can buy from them for a good price.
  10. My pipes arrived today along with a few other goodies. Cannot wait to get them on. I believe I hear air tools in my near future
  11. How much oil do the rstd motors hold with filter change. Is everybody using yamaha oil filters or something else.Traded my 2002 suzuki 1500 lc yesterday on a 2005 tour deluxe.I like the bike alot seems to have more low end grunt than my suzy did even with less ccs.Cruise control is definately a plus.Do the barons 4-2-4 pipes have the manufacture name stamped on the pipes.I have looked all over the pipes and cannot find it.These pipes are really loud no baffles.Do the carbs have a heater circuit on them to aid in startup. The bike has alittle bit of a whine but i have ridden other bikes that have noises also so it will be fine.
  12. What a nice bike. I was slightly nervous at first. The ride is great. Handles good. Felt a little "light" in the front end to me for some reason, but I am sure that will go away. Has pretty good power for a big bike. Definetly needs pipes though.........
  13. I just bought a low mileage '83 Venture. Seeing as how it's stablemate is a KLR650 I hate leaving it behind when I go up in the canyons. So my question is: How do I 'dual-sport' this bike? You know, knobbies, knocking off 400-500 pounds, skid pan, 12" clearance. high pipes, safe for water crossings, making short jumps of 20-30 feet. etc., etc.... You know? A single track, mountain climbing monster! heh heh heh
  14. Well we are trying to get the engine out of my 84 so that we can fix 2nd gear. Right now the problem is that we cannot get the pipes to separate from the collector. Tail pipes are off but the front and rear exhaust pipes just will not come loose. Afraid of breaking the collector and it appears to be in good shape. Any ideas? Is there a trick? I already broke one of the bolts trying to loosen the clamp on one of them. (gonna be looking for a clamp probably) At least that clamp is loose now. :-)
  15. Just put the collector back on the bike last night from the repair, just had to fire it up without the mufflers....... it was 11:30 PM, inside the garage.......thought I had my sons small block Camaro in there with headers only! Skip 12 hours till today, was getting ready to re-hang the mufflers when I decided to run up and get gas first. WHAT AN EYE-OPENER! First , the local neighborhood Harley guys are now EXTREMELY jealous! You know, the ones who run straight pipes and think their stuff sounds good. Let me tell you, they don't hold a candle to a Yammy V4 with the open collector! As far as performance, lets just say that my clutches are tight, but not with this puppy opened up! Any amount of hard throttle would bust them right loose, kinda glad 'cause I didn't want the front end off the ground with the wind we have blowing right now. She sounds really good anywhere from 4-6 grand, you really don't notice you're running those higher RPM's it sounds soooooo good! Might just have to build a set of straight pipes like CTraylor did and let the wife get used to it......... Really don't want to put them back on..........
  16. There is a set of turn down pipes listed on eBay for a MKI. I can't tell if they are Jardines or Macs bu there is a BIN of $125.00 on them. 290495687656
  17. Ideas needed. I pulled my plugs out to check them. Number 2,3,and 4 were wet. Running down the road at lower rpm's it sounds like it was flooding. I have richened out the carps. Could it just be to rich on those cylinders. The pipes are all hot so it is firing on all four. When I turn the throutle it runs fine at higher rpm's. Do I just need to lean out those 3.?????????????????????? Thanks Richard
  18. Ok, this is pretty much a story of cause and effect. Earl and Dano know what happend but now I think I can explain why it happend. About a week ago I had an electrical problem. Lost my charging system out on a ride. Voltage was dropping like a rock but I was able to get it back home before I lost power. (thank you DEKA AGM) When I got home I saw smoke coming out from the left side by the swing arm. Well, that is where the R/R is mounted. Tried to start the bike again in the garage and blew the main fuse. Long story short....tested the stator, a 2 year old Buckeye upgrade, looked for shorts in the wiring and found none. Replaced the main fuse and tested the system. Looked like everything else was fine. Pulled the R/R I installed about 3 years ago. It was an aftermarket unit, (not the upgrade Shindengen upgrade), and it pretty much started to fall apart as I removed it. As you can see from the pics it is more square and thicker than the OEM unit so I had to fab up a new mounting bracket to hold it in place. That was where I went wrong. I lost my main fuse because the R/R shorted to ground. On a three year old quality unit....why? Not supposed to happen. Looking at all the pieces now I'm pretty sure I know what happened. The new fabbed up mounting bracket left the new R/R hanging a bit lower than the OEM unit. I had room at the time and had no reason to be concerned about it. BUT.....about a year later I bought a new set of MAC pipes and installed them. Still had room for clearance on the R/R but it was closer to the MAC's than it was with the stock pipes. About 3/8 of an inch was all I had. And these things get warm all by themselves. Didn't need to add to that. SO.... when I pulled the R/R off I saw the bottom section of the rubber electronics potting was burned and brittle. Pieces came off in my hand as I removed it. That was the section that was closest to the pipes. You can see the damage in the pics. Heat ....pure and simple. I opend it up and the R/R is singed all the way through. So, in my opinion, I caused the failure by not making sure the unit had more distance away from the pipes. If anybody else has a better explaination I'm open to your thoughts. D'oh. Next time I'll have a better plan...... Just call me Sparky. Mike

    HD pipes are installed

I finally got my HD pipes on last night, went smooth as silk and no I did not drill them out and kind doubt I will like the sound like it is.. Only problem is the bike won't shut off it just :Venture: I believe the bikes has more power than when I drill out the OEM pipes but that could just be me I would never drill another set of OEM pipes out..
  20. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51456&highlight=pipes I traded these pipes to another member. Our agreement was he would pay shipping both ways. The stock pipes came a few days before I left for Sturgis. I took off the Bubs and installed the factory pipes. The job took 4 hours, should have been easier but it wasn't the stock pipes didn't want to fit. Getting the Bubs ready to ship I noticed some surface rust spots on the bottoms near the seams. It was not noticeable when I took the pictures but the removed pipes were not pristine near the seams and there were rust spots that appeared to be from rock strikes. It was time to leave for Sturgis on that day I mailed back the Bub pipes. Now the trade partner wants me to pay all return shipping on both sets of pipes. I am not going to do that but I WANT TO BE FAIR ALSO. So Ruffy and Big Tom maybe it was best I didn't trade with you. Any ideas
  21. Does anyone have a set of good Bub's, Jardines or ????? pipes for a 1st Edition and willing to part with em? Just added the Ventureline light bar that mounts below the bags and where the stock mufflers now dump the exhaust barely, and I do mean barely, are below the bottom of the light bar. Looks silly. First I thought I'd just out bid someone on fleabay for a set of those chrome dual downturned muffler extensions but seems like there will never be another set up for bidding. Even checked CL. Even posted here to see if anyone had a set they'd part with but so far no good. So, now I think the only way to go will be a set of after markets pipes/mufflers. Will pay whatever it takes. MG
  22. A few people were asking me how I like the new black ceramic Rinehart pipes on my bike after a week or so, so I have a good report to shed some light on how they sound, etc. The pipes mentioned in http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51473 sound quite nice. I'm able to get out of the neighbourhood quietly enough without setting off alarms or waking up babies.. They have a nice rumble, the have a nice bark when you drop the hammer. And they cruise very well. My buddy and I did a 1300 mile trip to Mount Washington again, just for some video footage. We did the I95 doing highway speeds of 80+ mph (and we were being passed all the time.. wow) and some of the back roads from the I95 into NH and White Mountain range.. Very interesting results for performance and fuel mileage. Doing highway speeds, the noise is loud enough you'd want to wear earplugs. I wear then when highway traveling anyway to protect against wind noise so this isn't a big deal for me. The more load on the engine at highway speeds, as in head winds or hill climbing for example, the louder they will be. But when you're cruising nicely with little or no load, the pipes have this nice hum to them. As with most RSV, the faster you go, the more head winds you encounter, the worse your fuel mileage gets and compared to the trip we did in May-June with the other pipes, my highway mileage was about the same, very sucky lol. With speeds in the 80+ we got as bad as 35 mpg, which isn't bad considering, but averaged out around 38 mpg which is the norm for my bike. But it's when we hit the back roads doing 40, 50 and 60 mph that the mileage got interesting.. With the Rineharts on the bike, the bike feels to have a lot more torque than ever before. Whereas at higher gears and lower revs, you can open the throttle a little more and feel it pull more instead of having to open the throttle a whole lot before feeling any pull but you've dumped so much fuel for so little gain, your mileage would suck. However with the Rineharts, it actually pulls with little throttle applied. Very nice. On the flats I could cruise 50 mph in 5th around 2500 rpm, and when encountering a slight incline, a little more throttle would climb the hill and settle down nicely. If you've done the back roads between Maine and NH you'll appreciate how much nicer this was not having to shift down and up all the time. Again to emphasize, this is without lugging or chugging the engine.. Nice. The sound and noise level on the back roads is very tame and satisfying! A nice mellow deep tone which wasn't hard on the ears at all. I ride the back roads without ear plugs and the radio tunes coming out at volume 17.. typically at highway I would have it up to 21. When you climb hills and such, you get the barking of the pipes but it's not abrasive on the ears. Bottom line for "this" rider: Love the sound, love the performance.. the price was right, they look great on this bike, they sound smooth and mellow and give that satisfying bark when you drop the hammer.. I love it when someone comments "Now THAT's what a Harley should sound like" not realizing it's a Yamaha, and I reply.. "yes, you're right, this IS what a Harley should sound like, thanks!".. and ride away.. hehe (as a note, my buddy rode with my Larossa pipes on his bike and I could hear him behind me.. drowned out my tunes!! lol.. )
  23. I have a very small "weep hole"(maybe 1/16in.) on each side of my exhaust pipes probably located just below the passenger foot rest---are these factory or do you suppose someone added them ------Thanx........................Larry
  24. I have these forsale in the classified section for 150 bucks. It is good price for the pipes, brackets and clamps.
  25. Yes I know its been pounded like a nail but i wanted to let everyone know that i am know making and selling these kits, with hardware, minus the clamps for $40 shipped on eBay out of ALUMINUM! LINK : CLICKY CLICK CLICK I know this is a popular mod for you guys, and i did it on my bike, and i am impressed by the sound. I have been trying to fill the gaps between jobs and college by scrapping metal and fabricating truck racks, and i thought this might be a good opportunity for me. I put my best work into these, and sell them as if they were going on my bike. Thanks for taking the time.
