  1. While searching I saw some talk of using a 15'' Vmax rear wheel but couldn't find anybody that had actually done it on a 1st Gen. So, can this be done? Has anyone done it? And if so, what's involved?
  2. Ok,for anybody within reach of North Central Pennsylvania,I stopped at on of my favorite haunts for motorcycle stuff,Larry's Cycles,a long time Yamaha and Harley Dealer. Here is an inventory as best that I can remember from this afternoon. For !st gen owners: rectangular driving light set[main parts room],chrome fairing trim,2 sets of chrome seat mounts[not sure which seat].These will be found in a cardboard box in the middle of the floor in the western most used bike room.Just root around.{also some NOS V-Max trim}.In the main Yamaha acessory room,4 sets carb covers+1set for"96-'98,2 chrome center covers to match battery side covers,1 set rotor covers,1 set rear wheel chrome covers,2 sets master cyl covers, driving light mount bars, old style saddle bag lid protectors[i think there was 1 set for 1st gen also] and I'm already starting to forget, but I'm sure everyone gets the idea. And there was 2 Royalstar riding jackets in sizes XL and M.I am not a shill for Larry's,just want to help anybody looking for hard to find items. They are located on Pa route 6,west of Galeton about 4 or 5 miles.Good luck and happy hunting,Herb.
  3. Hey Folks, Just wanted to post up and see if anyone has a decent used windshield for a 1st gen. Perhaps one that was taken off when it was upgraded to a clearview or such. It has to be in good shape, I dont want something all scratched up or cut down, I'm pretty picky on looking through a shield f anyone has a good one laying around that they want to get rid of I'd like to chat with you...Thanks.
  4. Ok been hearing about how all the second genners moved their trunks back to give their passenger a little more room. I was tols that it was already det up just had to move it. Ive been looking for a way to do this on a 1st gen. Looked at moving the trunk itself but dont have the skills to remake the mounts . Then considered moving the trunk rack mount back but it seems that isnt possible as it sets at an angle just behing the back light. Is there anyone out there who has already done this mod to a 1st gen and if so how did you do it? Any help would be appreciated David
  5. does anyone have 1 cam shaft from a 1st gen, 2nd gen, or vmax that they're willing to donate to the cause of building a shim tool by flyinfool ? will pay for shipping. the cams can be bad, really need to play with the hex area between the cams where the shim tool rides. TIA
  6. What is there to upgrading to the firesticks (fire fly) on a 2nd gen, can you just change the antenna's or what's invovled. Thanks
  7. I have seen a few BMW K1200LT around and I am intreged because they look like a better type of 1st gen venture. Does anyone have experience riding both of these bikes and tell me what the differences are? Iowa Guy

  9. I'm kinda new to the Ventures so was wondering if this is what is referred to on this forum as a First Gen? At least it does have a side car with it. http://i51.tinypic.com/72u25e.jpg Saw this for sale at Wally World and couldn't resist.
  10. Saw a nice 89 1st Gen about 20 miles north of Myrtle Beach yesterday on Hwy 9 anyone from here?
  11. What is the difference between a 1st gen and 2nd gen? Thanks, Allen
  12. Just Done some research and can not find anything besides Freebirds center stand mod. But he does not make it anymore. I have searched quite some time through the site here and found nothing pertaining to the second gen bike center stand. There is what looks like where a center stand should be on the bike. I suspect that Yamaha or no one else makes this. Does anyone here have a center stand that works for the second gen 2007 ? If so would like to have some info please ? I have one of the center stands that I purchased from someone here. The kind that you put under one side and then jack the bike up from the other and put pin in. Works on my bike stand, but would like a center stand permanent on the bike. Thanks in advance for any and all help. Would a center stand off of a V-Max work ?

  14. Does anyone have or know where I can find a longer cord for the rear headset? Mrs.Skid is almost six foot tall and her she is rough on the cords. I didn't have that problem with her on the first gen.
  15. Saw a 83 and a 90 something first gen today right outside of Kingstree SC on US 52.
  16. For guys that trailer a 2nd gen, where are your strap points on the front of the bike?
  17. Loving my "new to me" 03RSV. One thing that seems to be worse than my 1st Gen is the reaction to cross winds and headwinds. Old paint is relatively unfazed while the RSV seems to be much more at the whim of mother nature. It hasn't been all that windy here, maybe 30mph winds tops. Granted the RSV has all the aerodynamic qualities of a barn door (BTW my profession is in airflow dynamics) compared to the 1st Gen; but the difference on the road is striking. Anyone else notice this or is there something I need to be checking on.
  18. Stumbled upon this 1st Gen on a Norwegian web site. Gotta say that this is the nicest 1st. Gen I have ever seen. Would buy it if I wanted a slower bike than my 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic II The Norwegian price on the other hand is something different. Motorcycles here cost an arm and a leg and the wife and the dog to ! 17.743 US$ is the asking price. They have extremely hefty taxes here on motorcycles. But don´t worry - it will go for that price. Here is the link: http://www.finn.no/finn/mc/used/object?finnkode=26954627 Friendly regards from Iceland (Norway at the moment at work), Jonas
  19. For those few of you that have expressed any interest in the 2nd gen transmission being a viable option in a 1st gen engine, here is a great update. I received the forks and drum today and after doing some measurements on the location of the shifting slot that controls the slider for 1st and 3rd gear, it appears that Yamaha has shifted that slot approximately .080 toward the center of the engine. As noted in the earlier post, that slider was off using the 1st gen drum to the point that the dogs on 1st gear were touching the mating gear slightly and the dogs on the other side of the slider were just barely going into 3rd gear when that gear was engaged. It does appear that the forks themselves are identical. The other change is the tabs that were bent over the end of the pins, the ones that tend to open up and allow the pins to fall out, are no longer there and now it is a machined casting. This is another big improvement in this transmission. After replacing the forks and drum, I set the gearsets in place and it appears everything aligns perfectly and all sliders engage exactly as they should and have the proper clearances when not engaged. All the gears changed perfectly as I went thru the shift pattern. Now, I will gather up all the necessary seals and gaskets to start assembling this thing. I will add some pictures and the last one will be the 2nd gen gearset in place in a 1st gen engine with everything aligning as it should. RandyA
  20. Seems I need to be able to carry a little one. Any help with a chair that looks good on a 2nd gen, good quality at decent price? Anybody got a used one that needs work? Thanks
  21. I had the pleasure to work on Jayceesfolly's 89'VR over the winter and we came up with an unusual but effective way to add some additional light to the rear of his bike. The bike came to my "little shop by the creek" missing the right side helmet lock. Jim expressed an interest in getting a lot more light during braking and was not nearly as interested in replacing the helmet lock. I removed the left side helmet lock, and fabbed up a bracket that was mounted on the two "tabs" that held the helmet locks. As you can see in the pics, I used a light bar that has found a home on MANY Second Gen. Motorcycles, as a matter of fact, this particular light bar was slated to be installed on a Second Gen. later this month. I have since had to order another one for the owner. Both Jim and I were pleased at the results, and the light output from this light bar far surpasses the original tail light. So if you can live without your helmet locks, this is an excellent way to add a considerable amount of light for BOTH running lights and brake lights on the rear of a First Gen. PLUS, if you did your shopping for an LED light bar at Maint. Day this year, (with all the Second Gen. bikes that attend) you could add this light bat to your First Gen. for only a few dollars! Enjoy the pics. If you have questions, feel free to PM me, Earl
  22. After setting the 2nd gen gear set in the 83 engine bottom half, I realized that there was an alignment problem. After I aligned everything, I believe that two of the three forks are exactly where they need to be. the problem is the one that controls 1st and 3rd gear. Yamaha increased the width of the teeth on that gear slide and with the slide not engaged, it made the 1st gear dogs too close and the 3rd gear dogs too far away. The next step would be to get the correct fork and see if that solved the problem. But that was a problem in itself. According to two different dealers, there was not a new fork available anywhere in the US and the only place to get one was Japan. I then went online and checked with any salvage yards and anywhere else that might have a 2nd gen engine that was being parted out. I had just about given up when my son Brian, who had just stopped by, suggested I check my paypal history in trying to find where I had bought the 2nd gen gear set . Not only did I find the purchase, which was Feb 24, 2010, but the purchase had a phone number listed. I called it and not only did I get an answer, but he told me where to look and the forks and tumbler were still available on an ebay - buy it now listing, where I rarely look. The price was $25 with about $12 for shipping and I have already purchased and paid for it. So, now I am in great anticipation on this being a viable option, not only for solving the 83/85 trans problem, but for any 1st genner that wants to upgrade their trans to the slightly wider spaced gearing that the 2nd gens have. For those interested, I will keep you upgraded on how this progresses. RandyA
  23. Does anyone have the Parts # for the EBC REAR brake pads which will fit a 2nd Gen? Thanks in advance.....Boomer
  24. I am looking for the shifting forks and drum. I am needing them to put the 2nd gen Venture transmission into my 1st gen. RandyA
  25. Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone on here has tried the MegaMax gel battery that is for sale on E Bay? It's advertised as direct fit for the first gen which sounds good but I'm just wondering if it's worth saving the $35 or so as compared to the Odyssey PC 680. Any insight you gentlemen have is greatly appreciated. I'm kind of a newbie to the first gen so go easy on me please. Thanks Big Mark
