My 1985 Venture Royale with 73,000 k's starting acting sluggish ..Starts up fine and idles fine for a bit then blogs down. Under load it feels sluggish and you can smell unburned gas. At same time the Tach gauge starting working intermitting . Plan on changing plugs as a first step(has new Battery). It was suggested even one bad plug can cause other electronic issues. Is this so? -
I bought a 2006 RSV I am newbie to this site but have enjoyed all the help and support on the site. My question is my Betsy has abiut a 5 gallon gas tank no star emblems. I am thinking it should have a six gallon tank. Is there amod or something where the tank is swapped. Just curious like thebike the way it is.

that I RETIRED the end of November. YEA ! After 30 plus years at the same job, it was time to change direction. My wife will continue to work and hopefully give me gas money for the bikes. Hope to get the honey-do list done by summer so we have time to see old and new friends on this great site.

1987 with 36k with sidecar was averaging 38-40 all of a sudden dropped to 21, 26.2, 31.7, 28.6 , 29 no long idling no excessive speed rig coasts fine no brake drag i thought if there is a return line do to fuel pump maybe it broke or was leaking but there is no gas smell or residue. is there a return line line and any suggestions to look for for milage drop could it be clutch?doesnt seem to be slipping. -
I had a place reproduce the original decal on the gas tank of the Auranthetic mini bike I have. I think they did a great job.......... I posted a picture of the gas tank so you can see the original decal and then a picture of the reproduced decal. Now its off to the sandblaster to remove the paint from the gas tank..

My 84 is getting harder to start. I thought it was the cold, then the hi-test gas. I run regular in it in the cold months for it's lower flash point. Now regardless of the temp or gas it takes a while to get it started. I think the ignition module (original so far as I know) is on it's way to the trash can. Opinions please!

Carb problem-not spraying gas.

I fixed the starter clutch and started the bike with some difficult at half throttle so I put 6 ounce of redline in the tank. Now it will not start (hit) at all. Checked gas flow and it is working good and cleaned and checked firing of the plugs, Good. When I spray starter fluid in the carbs direct, it runs with the starter fluid and quits. I see no gas spray out of the carbs at all. -
This has probably been asked before, but.... I have recently purchased a 99 RSV with very low miles. I had to do a bunch of work to get it road worthy. I have put around 500 miles on it in the last week and have noticed that the speedometer is off approximately 10% (VERY ANNOYING, I like to know my exact speed without a calculation). When I meter the gas mileage running mostly freeway speeds 75-80mph which meters 80-85 or more on the speedometer I am getting 38 - 40 mph. Calculate the 10% odometer error that makes 34-35 mpg. Does this sound right?

I got gas for $2.89 a gallon after my .10 discount at Kroger's. Hoping it keeps falling some and stays there, but I dont think it will. :crying: What are you paying in your neck of the woods?

... I picked one up recently too, Carl. But it is OLDER than my worn out HHR...sheesh...first time I replaced a worn out car with an older one. Found it in Florida, an '06 Lexus 400H, mica blue, with 30,000 miles. Its darn fast, has all the bells and whistles, and my gas mileage is practically the same as the 4 banger in the HHR...love the way the engine shuts down at intersections. Best of all, my buddy likes it too.

I have an 86 that I just bought and it will not start. It has to be a fuel issue, it will start with starting fluid or a little gas poured in the carbs. The fuel pump is working and gas is getting to the carbs (line from pump removed key turned on). It has started once and ran for about a minute, really smooth, and quit. Is there something that would cause the fuel pump to stop or just dirty carbs? BTW did swap in a known good pump and same story.

FWI, over the past several months I've tried Seafoam in every tank (1 oz per gallon) then STP (3/4 oz per gallon) in pure gas by the recommended amounts per product. For me, I've noticed the engine ran smoother and consistently got better fuel mileage with the Seafoam. Prior to Seafoam, I avg'd 40 mpg and with seafoam got a high of 45 mpg. The best I got with STP was 42 mpg. The primary reason I use an additive is the unbranded gas our bulk plant sells has no additives in it like Techron and a tank of gas may last two weeks. I had read a post a while back where the author suggested he got better fuel mileage with Seafoam and after running both products, I would have to agree. Maybe there's a better benefit to STP vs Seafoam, but from an operator's stand point I'm not seeing it.

Today they had blast that was heard and felt 25 miles away, in our downtown area. Mostly older brick buildings, 2 wiped out, dozen or more that they think will have to come down. Nobody killed but 2 dozen hurt. Never will like gas, I guess.

Finally hit 3k mileage on that 11 FJR I now own. On a ride this past Saturday, had a couple 2d genners try to hang with me both through the twisties (embarrassing for them) and to gain up distance they lost through the twisties in the straight aways) all while heading up and back down FM4 in North Texas. I think one of em ran outta gas cause I have no idea where they went. Ha Ha. What a fun, fast scooter to ride. I really must be careful. Want to ride it down to the Leakey ride but will have to wait to see if I can take vacation off from the nut house.

Last Friday I finally completed the 87MKII 1st gen and got it back on the road. It's been on the center stand for about a year while I worked all of the known bugs out of it. At first I had a performance issue with old gas at the bottom of the tank but after running the tank dry and filling with fresh gas, then adjusting the idle it seems to be running great. I haven't had a chance to put a lot of miles on it yet to evaluate if the 4200 rpm stutter has completely disappeared. But, so far there has been no sign of it. I'm also expecting the 26MPG issue to have greatly improved. I'll report after a tank of gas or two has been spent. As always I would like to express my profound and sincere thanks, gratitude and pride in this forum and all of it's distinguished members that have graciously assisted me directly and indirectly in this on-going Labor-of-love. That assistance has been in the forms of advice, technical knowledge and support, donation of needed parts, well written and timely technical articles, friendships and camaraderie. And, so much more impossible to express in my limited use of the language, and without tearing up. Within the next few days it will be time for me to detail, service and return the 07 Midnight Venture That I have been riding for the past two years. That bike has been on loan to me by another true and valued friend who has generously allowed me to use it as it was my own. Now it is time to get him reacquainted with his bike since not riding for the past two years. Hopefully, I can encourage him to join and become involved in this forum. I know because of the type of person he is, and the nature of the people on this forum that he will find a motorcycle home here in doing so. As I have. I'm sure that he will soon discover as we all have, that it will be the best $12.00 that can be spent.

Americas Challenge has begun... Some of these balloons travel thousands of miles.....so pilot skill, luck, and winds aloft determine the winner. There are only 5 balloons in the race this year, due to the worldwide shortage of helium, they are flying on hydrogen. Still, it should be fun to see them, if they fly over your area around sunrise or sunset, they are easy to spot. In years past, some of the balloons have made it into the Great Lakes region, although most only travel into Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Nebraska. Just watched Motoring 2012 on TSN and they were talking about Ethanol fuel in carburated engines. Ethanol causes deterioration of rubber carb parts. Any ideas as to which gas stations sell regular gas with no ethanol in Canada?? Learned something new today!!

I have a gas leak coming out of the drain tube front left next to radiator. Leak only occurs when bike is running. It is an 05 RSV. I have taken the quad carbs completely off, cleaned all the floats and needles....Put it all back together and was going for a ride but again the leak......Any thoughts????

I just can't figure this one out. My bike is going thru gas like crazy. There are no puddles or even spots on the ground. There is no gas in the oil. There are no wet spots on anything. I live 20.2 miles from where I work. I had to stop for gas twice on the way home yesterday. Temps were in the 60s with the sun shining. I get off work at 4:30pm. It was almost 11:00pm when I finally made it home. The leaves are sure getting pretty this time of year. I just can't figure out where all the gas went.......

Because proposed E-15 expanded use may adversely affect small engine performance, like lawn & garden equipment, motorcycles, scooters, ATV's, etc., and will void warranties, the brilliant folks at the EPA have come up with a solution - - limit the purchase of E-15 at the pump to a minimum of 4 gallons! Like all motorcycles have gas tanks smaller than 4 gallons, or like all landscape contractors only fill their equipment in the morning and don't carry multiple 5 gallon gas cans that get refilled each day! And like all grades of gas have their own separate hoses at the pump so that residual E-15 won't find its way into the wrong engine! During the day on Tuesday the price of gas was $1.30/liter ($4.921 / U.S. gallon). Overnight it bumped up to 1.378/liter ($5.216 / U.S. gallon). That is $0.295 increase over night. Today it is $1.292/liter ($4.89 / U.S. gallon). Funny.... all the stations and oil companies raise and lower gas prices at the same time. Collusion or coincidence? Must be coincidence.
