1. I removed the front wheel and brake rotors to send it out for a tire replacement. I didnt keep track of which side the chrome rotor covers came off of. I now discovered that one is weighted and the other isn't. Which side does the weighted one go on? I looked on South Seatle Yamahas part site and it appears to me it is the right hand side. Is this rught? What is the weight for anyways? As usual any and all help is greatly appreciated. Jim
2. TEW47

Flat tire

Here I go again another flat on the front. This is the third time on the front tire the most I have had in forty years. It is also leaking around the valve stem again. Is the stock valve stem with the nut on it the best? I am going to order a Michelin on wednesday. Two nails with a bad valve stem again another time. tew47:depressed:
3. I dont know much about this bike yet so bare with me. Need to replace a speedometer cable on my 83 Yamaha XVZ12TK, can I get the instrument cluster out to get to the back of it with out taking a lot of front fairing off. It seems loose like it will just pop out but I don't want to mess anything up. Thanks Jerry.
4. Does anyone know what size; grade etc.. the bolt is that goes through the engine/frame at the front top of the mount? Thanks
5. I got the 91 Kawi Voyager here and the po put a new back Pirelli Route66 tire on it and it came with a new same front tire to be installed, anyone have an opinion on these tires since I have never had them. I took it for a ride and it starts and runs awsome but it needs cosmetic work, he also said that he put new progressive springs in, now that being said when I took it for a ride the front end felt like ice cream in the turns that is how I can explain it. I checked the air pressure in the tire and it was good I am wondering if he did something wrong, I don't know alot about the Kawi in terms of working on it and am wondering if someone can help me on the front end issue also. Tom
6. I have a 2008 RSV and I am very frustrated with it right now. It has a little over 20,000 miles on it and this is my third set of tires. I have used Metzler 880's twice and now I am using Elite III's. After my tires get a few miles on them I get a front end wobble at low speeds. I talked to the local Yamaha dealer. After the mechanic showed me the cupping I put on new tires, front and back. Both times with the Metzler's the front tires were cupped. Each time I put on a new set it quit for a little while. It has started now with the Elite III's and they probably don't have 2000 miles on them and there is no sign of wear at all. With the Elite III's I used Nitrogen and balanced them with beads. I think the Nitrogen has really helped with the wear and I was hoping the beads would help with the wobbling. So far nothing seems to help. I have read about tightening the front bearing but that doesn't make sense to me if new tires fix the problem for a little while. I really don't know what to do. The other problem is a nagging oil leak coming from the seal around the clutch shaft behind the master cylinder. I have had the seal replaced twice and it still leaks. The shaft feels smooth as it can be, no burrs at all. The second time the seal was replace liquid seal was put around the opening where the seal goes in case there might be a casting problem. But it is still leaking oil!!!!!! It is slower that what it was but I DON'T LIKE LEAKS and I don't think this bike should be leaking oil with this few of miles on it. Has anyone had either of these problems with their bike and what is the cure? I told my dealer that I have 2 more years of warranty left on this bike and it will be back for the next two years if this oil leak isn't fixed. But I am really running out of patience. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Damon Cates
7. Hi all, Just lowered my front end, 2005 Venture. All was going fine until trying to get the triple tree back on. It's not quite centered on the middle bolt so when it get's down to the 'neck' of the bolt the triple tree is hanging up. Have tried pushing rearward on the front tire, and forward with the front brake on. Doesn't seem to change. Can't think of any way to get any leverage between both fork tops and the bolt to get it to 'lean' in. Any suggestions? Looks like I'm about a half hour from being done if I can get past this..... Thanks John
8. Yep, that's me....... I'm in the process of putting the bike back together after some major work (new front springs, new rear tire, wires for trailer lighting to my Voyager kit, yadda, yadda), and like a fool I didn't take pictures of the handle bar cable routing. The thing is I also tool the steering head out to clean and pack the bearings. I've got the front end back together but I can't remember if the air lines for the front forks go infront or behind the cables from the handle bars. I checked my scanned copy of the FSM, but the pictures are crap so they are no help. Does anyone have picutes of how the front fork air lines and handle bar cables are routed? I will forever be in your debt. Thanks in advance.
9. I couldn't wait any longer . It was 83 degrees here in New york State and my son and I headed over to Wyoming County to pick up my new to me 1986 Black and Gold Venture Royale! The bike has hardly been ridden in the last 3 years. It sat in the last owners basement gathering a lot of dust. and in a garage before that. He got it stuck trying to get it out of the house and it had a lot of mud on it. We headed down the hill from his home(dirt road to boot) and the first thing I discover is air in the combined front rear break lines. Pumping the pedal got me some response but the front brake and engine breaking got me home the 68 miles back to my house. Twenty miles out I notice the temp gauge not registering. then it did, then it didn't . Obviously a lose connection but oddly down hill got a response so a total fluid check starts tomorrow' But what a beauty even under all that dirt. Got to some open highway to open her up. the spirit was willing but the battery, air cleaner cover wasn't bolted back on and over 80 threatened to blow off. On top of that she didn't seem ready to hold an idle no matter how fast or how far we went. So a few dibbles of sea foam with a couple of tank fulls. flush the radiator. Check wiring, bolt down that cover and then its cleaning, waxing and rubbing to make her glisten! Here's what she looked like after getting her home. I'll post the after pictures when she is done. But except for these little things. She's a gem ! Did a mention( a thousand times) that This is my favorite color!!!:dancefool:
10. Going to order some of these. http://www.tcbbrakesystems.com/ Had someone pull in front of me on hyway going 70 and squealed the front tire grabing the brake. Anyone else try these before?
11. Looking for stabilzing jack for the front of my motorcyle trailor. Anyone know where I can get one?
12. I need to replace the front pads on my 97 tour deluxe. Have not gotten into it yet, was wondering if there is a blow by blow out there for this particular job. Not sure if there are any tricks that help it go smoothly..
13. Just Ordered mine tonite. www.denniskirk.com Dennis Kirk has a great price on the Avon Venom AM41 Front 150/80H-16 $127.99 Avon Venom AM42 Rear 150/90HB-15 $110.95 Shipping is $5.00 a tire Total $248.94 Hopefully this might be a sign that spring sales are coming on tires. Everyone else was still at the $159.99 - $162.99 FRONT & $151.99 - $160.99 http://www.jakewilson.com/ http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/ http://www.compacc.com/
14. So I had a lot of running around to meetings today so I took the 89. I have yet to see another 1st Gen in town. Got to one of the Defense Contractors and parked in the front lot in the cycle parking. And there she was...obviously separated at birth, born to different mothers, was my brunette's twin.
15. I am a member of Amazon.com Prime. This means I get free 2-day shipping and anything overnight for $3.99. My brother was hospitalized, I realized I might need to ride there, and my front tire was in iffy shape. I bought an Avon Venom 150/80-16 71H (front) for a good price ($145.80, near the cheapest I found) and selected overnight shipping for $3.99. It is out for delivery now. That $149.79 total is way cheap when you consider overnight shipping of a 16 pound tire. Heck, it's cheaper than Dennis Kirk by $10 and Jake Wilson doesn't carry the tire. Another option to consider if you have Amazon Prime and need something quick. I'll let you know if the tire comes out of date, as cheap tires have been known to do. Dave
16. I am considering having my 2009 Venture "triked" next year (Hannigan). I have done a bit of research and price checking and I have some questions. 1. I currently average about 45 MPG with 2 up and normal legal speeds. What sort of mileage am I likely to get after the conversion? 2. My OEM front tire was still fairly good at 15K, what sort of tire life should I expect after the conversion. I also heard/read that using a rear tire installed to rotate in the opposite direction would extend the front tire life. The explanation was that it had something to do with the belts/plies compressions (beyond my understanding however).
17. Does anyone have a front pillow tuffed seat laying around from a RSV they want to get rid of for a decent price, mine is coming apart and I dont want to replace it with something differant and I cant afford to have it recovered right now.
18. wells guys just bought my first venture. been a bike fan since i was a kid and my first boss had one of these. thought it was awesome then and still do. i been getting acclimated to the site. there's lots of info on here and have to say i'm real impressed to see a group of people so willing to help each other out! thanks for letting me be a part of this. i guess i'm ready to test some of my wrenching skills to get this thing safely ready for the road.. it's got 30,000 miles on it and the paint was redone 2 years ago. visually its looking pretty good but i have a few of the gremlins that are common. i've been gleaning off the threads but i thought i'd start my own and maybe list the things i've noticed and we could work together on getting them reslolved. i was told the 2nd gear issue was resolved at the dealer already and i haven't noticed any issues. FIXED - 1. starting issues, especially when the bike is warm. gonna check out battery and charging FIXED -2. front end suspension seems off. saw oil on the brake caliper. feels uneasy in turns. it takes the bumps really hard up front, but feels okay on a smooth road FIXED - 3. the air suspension monitor seems to not be functioning. i only see "psi" on right side FIXED - 4. seems to idle a little rough, you have to choke it slightly to get it to idle at 1000-1200rpms. then idles okay part in the mail - 5. the pipe stubs on the front side of the exhaust crossover are broke on both sides. makes it pretty loud FIXED - 6. rear trunk has the small cracks around the front holding tabs, making it a little wobbly FIXED - 7. felt like the clutch was slipping when i took it out to open it up at high rpms. may have felt like an engageing issue, not sure its the fibers, maybe master cylinder? FIXED - 8. seemed like neutral was a little hard to find when the bike was hot i'm hoping to get the starting / running issues resolved and then keep working on the list. here's a pic to give you a vision http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/DOZER520_photos/DSCN3465.jpg http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/DOZER520_photos/DSCN3468.jpg
19. I have recently picked up a Suzuki V-strom, and having a hard time getting back into the swing of things on the Venture. These issues have always been there, but I overlooked them because it was my 1st bike. (It is a 92 with 88,000 miles on it) The venture feels a bit bouncy, like there is enough spring but not enough dampening on the front & rear. There is a sensation that is a bit disconcerting that the rear end of the bike feels disconnected from the front, it is as if it moves independently of the front, like something is looser than it should be. That is really the only way I know how to describe it. I notice it mostly when I go over a bump or a dip. Could the be because it does not have solid motor mounts? Does the frame actually flex? Or maybe I just need a new rear shock? ($$$'s) ouch. The ride reminds me a bit of one of those old 70's cars that weighed 4500lbs after the shocks would wear out a bit. Speed doesn't seem to matter. I don't have experience with a well tuned (in better shape) Venture, so nothing to compare it to. Thanks, Brandon
20. Eventually plan on buying block off plates for anti-dive. My question is this: Does just unplugging the anti-dive have the same effect or is there a side effect to doing this? Thanks Edit: Already have Progressives up front.
21. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/3300773 You will also need to get hose at your local auto shop I used vacuum line get 5 Feet the inside die was just enough to be able to push the two wires through. Get 5 feet of whatever hole you want, I use vaume hose remove the 8mm nut make SURE you have the bottom nipple down and drill at the top Break all of the old lens out (watch your eyes) I used this type sander to make my surface flat Your just removing the outside edge lip. Now cut your hose in half 2.5 feet, spray WD 40 inside the hose on both ends and pust the wire through. it will go with no problem. IMPAORTANT: Make sure you have your wires through the back plate then then run the wire through the hose see photos. Clean off the left over WD40 with cleaner Now peal off the 3M backing and I used GOOP and file all around inside and up around the black vac line. Then clamp together, wait about 30 minutes and your ready to use. Run the hose at the same area as the front brake hose is routed. and up to the the wireing in the front cowl.. I will most tie into the cowl area you could also tie into the running lights area as well. Use a hose of your chioce that the wire just will fit into. LET THERE BE LIGHT. Any Qustions feel free to email or PM me. Enjoy, Jeff
22. Will be traveling to Florida Keys with CaptainJoe at the end of March, 3,000 miles roundtrip. Have a '09 RSV Hannigan trike with 7,500 miles on it. Wondering if I need to replace the front tire before trip. The new OEM Bridgestone tire had a thread depth of 9/32". Our front tire now has thread depths of 6/32" center and 4/32" sides. Appears front tire was being run underinflated. Always used Hannigan recommendation, 35 psi front and 28 psi rear. Based on the wear, believe I need to up the front pressure. If I up the front pressure, wonder if original tire will last for my trip? Center is only down 3/32" from the new depth. Hate to throw tire away before its time is up, and weather will be milder when I return from my trip. Ordered a new AM42 rear tire for front and Ride-On balancer/sealant. These should arrive in a few days. Do you feel the tire replacement is necessary before my trip? Thanks!
23. My '05 Tour Deluxe is having some serious front brake issues, need ideas on where to start. The bike has about 50k on it, I'll admit, the brake fluid is about a year over due on flushing. My problems are these: the front brake lever is hard to squeeze - meaning if I squeeze the lever with the normal force to moderatly slow down, I barely get any braking action, if I squeeze harder the brakes just about lock up; other issue- when I do find that sweet spot in the front brake lever for good moderate braking, the brakes pulsate pretty bad (like a warped disc) and the front end dances all over the place. Needless to say, this thing is scary to try to ride. I hope with all of these brilliant minds here, I might find an answere Thanks, Dave
24. I just completed my complete motorcycle maintenance getting ready for the summer rides. I adjusted the air shocks on both the rear and front forks using the following tools and they worked great. It is so nice working with such accurate tools. I brought the rear pressure up to 35 lbs and the front shock up to 3lbs. The bike was place on my motorcycle stand prior to adding the air as the manual states. Some folks are saying that there is no pressure difference if the bike is on the side stand or on a motorcycle lift. However I will most always go with the service manual but have devitated several times in my life! ha ha Anyway here is the tools that I used and they worked great/SUPER. I used the pressure pump to put the air in the front shock and took it to about 6 lbs although I only wanted 3 lbs. With the 0 to 15 lbs gage I just removed some air slightly until it reached 3 lbs. Worked great with the low pressure gage. It was hard to tell the low pressure accurately with the 0 to 60 pressure pump. So two gages are required for good results. I use a Harley Progressive pump # 54630-03A, 0 to 60 lbs. and Accugage low pressure gage SX series, 0 to 15 lbs which I bought from BikeBandit.com, part# 24729 (TR-150251). See Photo attached. Hope that this helps someone. DanC
25. Hey guys I was wondering since I just hooked up my side LED Reflectors and was doing some testing and I thought it would be cool to have them flash also if I ever turned on my flasher switch. I have the side markers tied right into the front blinkers/running/side lights so when I just have the key on (one click) the front and rears are only on. now when I hit the flashers everthing flashes except my side lights? I have my Fairing off all this week and just wanted to find out if I can make this happen:scratchchin:. Boy it's is really nice to have that front side of the bike lit up now. :-) Thanks for any advise. Jeff
