  1. Just want to throw out a word of caution for anyone buying new tires. We usually take for granted that a bike shop knows what they are doing when we buy new tires and we never check them. I recently purchased a new front tire from a high profile motorcycle shop near our town preparing for a 500 mile trip the next day from New Smyrna Beach, Fl to Pensacola, Fl. Departing the next morning my wife and I traveled about 100 miles and got caught in torrential rain showers, running at 65 MPH the front started lifting, if you have never hydroplaned on a bike it is very squeeze it tight feeling, slowing and getting back under control went about 10 miles, back up to speed little water on the road but again front started lifting, when I got to Pensacola looking over the bike the next day, noticed the shop had installed the tire in backward rotation, thus the hydroplaning, instead of defensing the water under the tire it was actually building up under it. Have 112,000 miles on my 01 RSV and this was a first, so always double check anyone that touches you ride, it may save your life. I have no doubt if there had been a bad accident this would never have been found. I can assure you the bike shop got my full displeasures with their job.
  2. If you touch in any way shape or form, the clutch lever, brake leaver, foot break, or turn the throttle other than to increase speed, it will kick off, these levers are very, very senstive, so at 30 degrees and 75 MPH, yea I would be shakeing enough to kick it off.
  3. Go with Skydoc, this man has developed his own clutch system and it works perfect, put it in mine 3 yrs ago and it works great, no slipage no matter how hard you want to throttle up in any gear. It also elimates the wire and makes reworking the clutch easy, did mine in under 2 hrs and I am a novice, just remeber to soak the plates in oil before installing. And I will also say Skydoc's word is gospel concerning these bikes.
  4. Been using Rotella 15-40 in my 01 RSV for past 4 yrs now, bike just turned 100,000 miles a couple months ago, have had no problems whats so ever, anything the whin in the clutch is less than it was. Like the price of oil changes (every 5000 miles), under 20.00 bucks compared to 60.00. But what ever works for you and makes you happy, go for it, as long as the wheels keep turning it is a good oil.
  5. I never use the kickstand (any more), to kill the engine, have done that several times in the past and forget to turn off key, thus dead battery. For many, many year the procedure is as follows for wife getting on and getting off is just in reverse procedure. Getting On 1. Start Engine 2. Plant Feet 3. Wife Gets On 4. She Pats Me On Back (means ready to go) Getting Off 1. Plant Feet 2. Wife Gets Off 3. Stop Engine 4. Kick Stand Down:stirthepot:
  6. Be very carefull putting air in the shock or front forks, just a quick shot will give you enough to check, if you hold the pressure on it you gonna blow the bladder in the shock and than you gonna have to replace, so watch it close.
  7. Sounds like a heat lock or vacuim lock, possilly a clogged or damaged vent line, next time it does it, just remove the take cap and see if it starts back up, if it does you than know its the vent line.
  8. Thanks guys, a good contact cleaning did the trick, I hope, working fine now after the cleaning, used electronic contact clearner and a little dry lubercant on the toggle swithches.
  9. Stop complaining and enjoy what we cant, one thing for sure though, you had better contact the last owner and find out what type and weight of oil he/they used in it and stay with that type, differant oils will give you a complete list of differant noises both in clutch and engine. Good luck and let us all know when you start to hear it, just be patient eventually it will be upon you.
  10. Any one have any pillow tuffed seats laying around that fits 01 RSV need both passenger and driver seats, if any one has a set for sale let me know. Mine are starting to split in the seams. Thanks:Venture:
  11. Have looked through the other remarks cant find one with my problem. My cruise control has started doing crazy things. Most times it will not set, turn it on get to cruise speed hit set and resume and set light blink and go out, sometimes can turn it off and back on by the main switch and it will set but than if you hit increase or decrease button, it will go off and the two lights start blinking again, sometimes if you hit reset it will start to resume and just continue increaseing speed without stopping, have to turn it off. Need help as the control is my life saver on any trip, have ole arthritist bad in hands. Thanks guys know I can depend on good answers here. Oh, have a 01 RSV with 99,000 miles, and yea I put over 90,000 of those on it.
  12. Running Avon Vem front and back for years, have almost 100,000 on 01 RSV and have found best to go with stamped PSI on side of tire, running 50 in back and 41 in front and have ran in all weather conditions from snow to torrential down pour and they handled great, usually get 21 to 22 thousand out of front and 15 to 18 out of back, and ride two up 95% of the time. Just my 2 cents worth,
  13. there is a 07 for sale on here, beautifull bike and it has a matching trailer that goes with it, has all the bells and whistles, I just looked at it myself a few minutes ago, If he still has it, I would grab it before buying from a dealer, it also is 10,500.00. \
  14. I used to run high octain 91 and above all the time thinking it was better for the engine since it was cost higher, Sky Doc set me straight on that a few years back and I switched to 87 octain, it ran better, got better miliage, and actucally had more power, and I had blown a lot of money in the past years buying high octain, so why is this? The japs made this bike to run on low octain, when you burn high octain it fires slower, hench the compression stroke is already starting down before igition fires, this is simply laymens terms, but it has sure saved me a lot of money by switching to 87 octain. Plus I add a couple oz of Sea Foam in every 2nd or 3rd tankfull, keeps things clean and running smooth. Just made a round trip from Va to Persacola, Fl a week ago, 1,893 miles, running 80 and 85 MPH averaged 40.2 MPG all on 87 octain. Again thanks Sky Doc:stirthepot:
  15. I also use it in everything, bike, lawnmower, F350 desiel, it works great, One thing you may want to check into, my local NAPA auto parts store in Va. sells it for 6.95 a can, thats 2 bucks cheaper than Walley World, butttttttt, Walley World will match their price, just bought 2 cans from Walley today at 6.95 each.
