I ordered a Harbor Freight Tag-Along and it was delivered yesterday. Last evening, Squidley, his wife Sweetnothing, Jus Monkeyin' Around, and Ponch arrived to get me going in style. Yes, there were three Dave's gettin' her done. One of the side marker lights was busted in shipping, but I wanted LEDs anyways. So I was sent off to HF for a kit, and re-routed to Sears to get some washers to solve a parts issue. By the time I was back, they had the wheels on and were waiting on me to attach the drawbar. Everything went about as smoothly as you might expect with this crowd, mixed with HF stuff. In particular, the tongue coupler was misshapen and needed to be stretched. After some head scratching, Dave, Dave, and Lonna figured out how to do that and we had successful coupling! Brad did a terrific job of wiring the harness. I had no idea that it would go under the seat. I was thinking it would be tapped off the fender bundle. He gave me all first-class parts. I got the good stuff! All in all, these fine people gave me six hours of their time. I think the best, most enduring benefit of this site is the friendships that develop. I am extremely grateful. Thank you. Dave (Photos to follow when I tow it somewhere.

This guy must have a great bike to have a VR from 1998. Maybe it's worth so much because it has MKI luggage. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=10682044&cat=144&lpid= Dave

What do you guys think? It is starting to have 2nd gear issues. Would it be worth it to buy and then put the motor from an '88 in it? Dave

Was going to Marietta,Ohio with some friends on our annual ice breaker ride. Wasn't going to take my trailer, but my wife changed my mind at the last minute. I had pulled it around Lake Michigan last summer with no problem. Got to about Athens,Ohio and the right wheel fell off. It broke the weld where the axle was welded to the frame. Found Dave 0317 name on the list and was only 10 miles away. By the way, this was at 10 at nite. Dave 0317 came with his truck to pick it up. Asked him if he knew of somebody with a welder so I could fix it. He made a couple calls and an usher at his church had one. So we took off to get it fixed. Got it done even checked other side to make sure it wasn't cracked also. Said our thanks and goodbyes and got back on the road and wouldn't you know we only got 10 miles down the road, on the other side of town, and the other wheel came off, snapped the axle. Called Dave 0317 back, he still hadn't made it home yet from the first time. He came to pick up the trailer to take back to his house so we could finish our trip. I will be going one day next week to pick it up. Just wanted to praise God for Dave 0317 signing up on the website and for coming to my rescue.

I know I have not been a member here as long as some folks, but I have been reading many of the tech threads and I get a charge out of the good natured bantering that goes on here, but I have a question tht has been bothering me as of late. What I would like to know, Don, with all you do to run the site, work, take care of your health, familly and household, (not to mention keeping the inmate in this asylum in line), how do you find time to RIDE? I don't have a third on my plate as you do and I have only been able to put on about 2000 miles this year. Just wanted to put out a heart-felt thank you and keep up the good work! Dave

Hey Folks, Dave Pankow can't seem to get a break with his 1st gens. I am helping him work on a no spark issue and it's looking like it's a TCI or in his case being a '90 VR a DCI. It appears that '90 was when they went to the different control system for the spark, so anything before '90 wont work on his bike. MICarl has been helping us with this problem and is of the belief also that this may be the culprit. What I need to know if some of you pack rats out there have a good spare TCI (DCI) that we can test his bike against. This would only be to verify if in fact this is the problem, if anyone can help him out it would be greatly appreciated. You can PM me or Dave (Jus monkeyin around) and let us know...Thanks in advance

Would a trunk guard from a 1991 Royale fit on the truck of my 1984? If not a direct fit, could it be close? I know the bags were changed on the '86 and newer, but thought if I could get this, it would dress the back en up a bit and and some more lights. Thanks, Dave

Throttle - Auto Close
utadventure posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What causes the throttle to return to the closed position once the grip is released. The new '88 I have doesn't return by itself. It's like having a throttle lock on the control. Any suggestions? Dave -
Does any of the many wise folks here know if a luggage rack from an 1986 would fit m pn my 1984? I am considering the one on eBay listed here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220436035151&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123 Thanks in advance Dave

This looks like a good event. I think my wife and I will try to make the first couple of days of this cross country ride. I'm working on getting specific information: Dave Barr, a double amputee veteran who rides, is organizing a contingent of riders departing from the Vietnam Memorial (The Wall) in Washington D.C. and ride across the country in a show of patriotism and honor. He and his group will be riding through the following states and all riders are welcome. Virginia West Virginia Pennsylvania Ohio Indiana Missouri Kansas Colorado Nevada California Schedule Day 1 — 28th, Aug. DC. To Washington, PA. 243 miles. via I-270 to I-68 to I-79. Day 2 — 29th Aug. Washington, PA. to Indianapolis, IN. 386 miles, via I-70. Day 3 — 30th Aug., Indianapolis, IN. to Kansas City MO. 419 miles via I-70. Day 4 — 31st Aug., Kansas City, Mo. To Colby KA. 372 miles via I-70. Day 5 — 1st Sept., Colby, KA. To Denver, CO. 235 miles via I-70. Day 6 — 2nd Sept., Denver, CO. to Salina, UT. 450 miles via I-70. Day 7 — 3rd Sept., Salina UT. To Mesquite NV. 222 miles via I-70 & I-15. Day 8 — 4th Sept., Mesquite NV. To Oceanside, CA. 383 miles via I-15. http://www.thehonorrun.org/events/xcountry/daveroute/files/davebarr_route.jpg Dave Barr has done what most only dream of doing! http://www.davebarr.com/images/para2.jpgTraveling around the world is a huge accomplishment, but only the beginning of Dave Barr’s incredible story. His solo motorcycle journey took three and a half years to complete and spanned six continents and 83,000 miles. What makes it truly remarkable is that Dave made the trip on a 1972 Harley-Davidson® motorcycle with two prosthetic legs, the result of an 1981 land mine explosion. He pushed his way through the Sahara, Namibia, and Gobi deserts, slipped through the Andes during avalanche season and braved the unique challenges of riding across China, Russia, Australia, and Africa. Dave later went on to establish a Guinness Book World Record for crossing northern Europe, Russia and Siberia on a motorcycle in the dead of winter. Dave uses his experiences to tell story after touching story. His life lessons will enrich and empower you as he shares how he brought his vision to life by setting goals, staying focused, and overcoming obstacles. To find out more about his inspiring message or to get information about Dave speaking to your organization http://www.davebarr.com/images/FarWesternPoint.jpg Dave Barr sets New World Record! Dave’s most recent adventure earned him a second Guinness World Record. This time he went to Australia on his “Southern Cross” journey. In just 45 days, he completed the first motorcycle journey ever between the four extreme geographical corners of the Australian continent. A documentary is currently in the works about this amazing trip.

Don- If you think this is too political or religious in nature. Please delete it. Dave I received an email from my sister in IL. this morning about the NBC poll. The subject matter is whether the phase "In God We Trust" should remain on US currency. I encourage all to vote at: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10103521/ Dave

Hi just wondering if anybody is using the Dave Ramsey debt program? If so did it work or is it working for you? I'm just starting to see that it would be alot easier to have no debt. I mean of course it is but you know that aint easy. Any advice would be appreciated, what with the economy and all things have gotten uglier around here! Thanks for your input.===Danimal
