  1. I just purchased the seatskins from http://www.coveralls.biz. The team there answered all my questions and help me pick out the cover to fit our seat and passenger backrest. Two days later I had a cover. Wonderful. No more soggy seats. Check them out. They are willing to work with our group. They also stand behind their merchandise 100%. Keep up the good work.
  2. It was my impression that the 1stGen clutch covers were all the same from 83-93 1200/1300. Then ran acrossed this item on Ebay. CLUTCH I can't believe that yama-mama changed the cover in any way, but here's a seller that says the one he just bought on Ebay doesn't fit. Whatcha think???
  3. Check this out! Saw these great covers at the Star B Que in Texas and purchased one, and I think it's worth your time. The web site is www.coveralls.biz, Ver unique and totally different from the "regular" covers we have all seen, and maybe own. These folks even have a cover just for the seat, for use when you get off the bike and leave it in the sun or rain. David R.
  4. If it aint one thing its another! I think that murphy must have owned my bike at one time or another. Today I'm putting in a heavy duty clutch spring that I got from pcw, and decided to change the oil while I was at it. I been noticing a slight leak that has been steadily getting worse the last few weeks. A couple weeks ago it got bad enough to put a drip pan on the garage floor. So anyway, I pulled the filter cover off and took to cleaning it up. The oil filter cover has got a crack in it. I mean a piece fell off type crack. Anybody got one that will fit my 89?
  5. finally done and working , located the remote button on the right battery cover in the front bolt hole , I had to drill the nut in the cover to install the switch fits OK and works good .
  6. I'm not the greatest with computers but i'm gonna try and put pics of my bike on here but this trunk was on my bike and i know its not original cause its got a different key. there was sitcker on the top that said ABS but unless i've just been missing it i haven't seen pics of other bikes with speakers in the trunk. that's what i really need is a replacment speaker cover for the right side but it's tough to find something when your not really sure what its from. any help would be appreciated
  7. is it possible for a bad water pump to seep very small amount of oil into the cooling system. it is weeping water from the weep hole in the cover . i believe i had about 1/16th film in my over flow bottle. ant info would be appreciated. thanks lee
  8. Now that I have my venture on the road, I'm noticing a lot of heat. Heat comes out of the side covers, right onto the backs of my knees, and the clutch cover is so hot I have to use the highway pegs. The temp guage is ok, so i'm guessing this is normal. what do you guys do? :225::225::225:
  9. I'm brand new to this and am looking for some help. I had the headlight cover on my fairing break out on a ride the other day. I've tried to locate a replacement and have discovered that the part has been discontinued. Does anyone know of any after market products or do I need to manufacture one myself. The original was safety glass. My dilemma is that the housing is curved which makes it much more difficult to fit properly. Any help would be great.
  10. I went out to ride my beautiful 86VR and the left trunk lens [amber] had fallen off, its no wear, gone, just fell off when riding. I feel like a prom queen with a huge ZIT :rotf::rotf:that wont cover. Can anyone help? Where do I start:confused24::confused24: to try & find one, anyone have an extra????? Whats to do?? its blemished Iam so SAD..:canada:
  11. OK I started on the rebuild of my Clutch Slave Cylander, and following the instructions in my service manual, it says remove the middle gear case cover and then says "NOTE: ...be sure oil does not leak out of the case." Well. oil did leak out of the case, about a half a cup, give or take. Well, the manual doesn't say what to doif it does leak. So, what is it trying to tel me?? Careful, oil may leak out so replace it, or if it leaks it means you have a bad gasket or seal somewhere?? Any ideas???
  12. Well that little piece of plastic that the rubber do dad attatches to actually bent on my bike. Lost one of those rubber grommets also. :doh:Anyone know if i can use pvc or cpvc glue on the inside of the cover. Im concerned that it may melt the plastic.I have one crack to repair and i can probably rig up somthing to act as a tab. Or can i get by and ride without the rubber thing. If ya got a spare grommet drop me a line.
  13. First off since this is my first post hi to everyone. I just bought a 1986 venture and this sight has been great.I fixed my solder joints on the CLASS very helpfull .Now onto how to fix the pressure / boost sensor for timing advance, if your sensor leaks vacuum. this is what you do.Remove sensor heat up a razor blade till it glows red with a torch carefully melt the top cover off by the seam this is opposite the vacuum hose plug .Remove cover what you will see is a bunch of jelly it looks like snot and feels the same way on the same side of the vacuum hose plug you will see a little black box it will have came unglued from the base there is four very small wires coming out of it hidden inside the jelly be carefull not to break them, carefully remove the jelly around the box and wires .I know its a pain but these things are like $300.00 and I have more time than money. Carefully lift up little box clean the bottom of it and the bottom of the sensor housing mix up some epoxy apply a small amount to the bottom of the box all the way around DO NOT GET ANY IN THE HOLE. Gently position over the vacuum hole nipple and wait for epoxy to set up. when set up you should be able to suck on vacuum nipple and it should hold vacuum .If all is good apply RTV sealent were you removed jelly stuff .DO NOT GET ANY ON THE TOP OF THE LITTLE BOX YOU JUST GLUED DOWN THERE IS A LITTLE HOLE THAT HAS TO BREATHE. Epoxy cover back on and check with volt meter IF you plug the harness conector in with key on you should have 12 volts on one terminal 2volts on the output terminal and that one will very if you suck on the vacuum nipple. If you by chance broke one or more of those tiny wires they can be solderd back on but it is not fun I know. Sombody on this sight asked if a GM map sensor would work instead .A gm map sensor works on a 5volt referance signal this work on a 12volt signal after checking both sensor resistances they are not the same.maybe with some resistors you might be able to get the GM sensor to work but that is a little out of my league .HOPE THIS HELPS.
  14. On a recent trip through Wyoming we talked to some people from Canada who had an ingenious Lexan cover over their headlight to protect it from road debris. Does anyone know where I can find one? thanks in advance.
  15. Don't ask how I destroyed my fuel tank cover but I need a replacement. If anyone has one that they would want to sell let me know please. Tim
  16. Rebuilding Pillow-Top Seat on '06 RSV Thanks to Jake (jakenator6) Hannon for this excellent tech article. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image003.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image004.jpg After about 8000 miles, the seat on my RSV was beginning to give me some severe discomfort. I felt, since it had been comfortable earlier, the foam might be breaking down a bit. The pressure point was exactly in the back center, right where the tailbone resides. My decision was to rebuild the seat with more of a dished out saddle effect and put firmer foam in place. Attached are photos and description of what I did. Starting point was to get a photo of the seat before I started removing things. Always useful when putting things back together. First job was removing the staples. Easily accomplished with a flat bladed screwdriver and pliers. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image007.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image008.jpg The seat cover is held onto the foam with pull-through fasteners seen above. These are easily removed with some needle nosed pliers but some care needs to be taken as they are not exactly robust. Grab one side of the metal clip, pull up to get some slack, and push it through the center hole of the plastic washer. Once the cover is off, use the needle nosed pliers to push the fastener through the foam. I think there were 9 of these. The vinyl cover is now separated from the seat. The seat pan is also pictured. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image011.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image012.jpg The soft, white foam on top will need to be pulled off. It was glued to the denser foam but take your time and they can be separated into reusable condition. I was not planning to reuse the soft cover and was planning some surgery on the denser foam so I was not as meticulous as I could have been. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image015.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image016.jpg I used the removed soft top as a template and cut a new pillow from much denser foam 1" thick. In hindsight, I would still use the denser foam but only 1/2" thick. The old foam was so soft it compressed easily and gave the seat it's puffy look. The new foam compressed very little and was the dickens to get the cover stretched back over. Putting those stringed fasteners back through is a job that is guaranteed to test your mettle. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image019.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image020.jpg Based upon the recommendation from this site, I used a flap disc on a drill to start reshaping the seat. The right picture above is how things had progressed with this tool. It really did some smooth work but my plan was to remove a lot more foam so I resorted to an electric carving knife. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image023.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image024.jpg The above photos show most of the knife work. I took the rear center of the seat down almost 3" since I planned to build it up with some really stiff 1/2" foam as a base. From the center back, I taper it up to give a smooth dished saddle shape. This was way past the point of no return. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image027.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image028.jpg I used some 1/2" foam rubber intended for flooring in play rooms. A little puzzle work and some spray adhesive got things stuck in place. I had also carved out a niche for the backrest piece you see in the above right picture. I really wanted some more support at the back and to spread my weight to the wider parts of my posterior. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image031.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image032.jpg Some more knife work and spray adhesive and the new pillow top was ready for recovering. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image034.jpg Getting the cover back on will take two people, more patience than I had, and some needle nosed vice grips. The plastic seat base is hard and stapling takes even more patience. How's it work? Pretty good I must say. I've put in two 300 miles days and the pressure point in the center is gone. The built up back rest is largely negated by all that 1" foam (pillow stuff), but it is still an improvement. If you're not happy with how your seat feels, changing it is within the tool capacity of most of us. I wouldn't hesitate to try it again but right now I'm OK with what I have.

  18. This should be posted under Most Embarassing Moments. Anyone have a valve cover they can sell me and ship to Prince Edward Island Canada asap. I was installing the engine on my 84 after doing the 2nd gear repair and it rolled off my jack and cracked the front valve cover. I got the engine in OK after that noticed the crack when I started bolting the side rail on. I want to put the rest of the bike together next weekend and so I'm looking for help. There are some on ebay so I can try that if no one here has one. Thanks Ventureriders.
  19. Any of you RSTD riders use a sun cover on your bikes? I am looking at the Nelson Rigg uv cover. You know the half cover style designed to keep sun off. Any other covers out there like that? If so what kind and size do you use? Thanks in advance. kickshot
  20. Hello I would like to know how to remove the latch cover inside the trunk of a RSV1999, there is 4 plastic knobs that seems to hold it in place but I don't know how to remove them and don't want to break anything. Is there any special tool needed? Can I use something else? Any trick? I have included a picture from inside the trunk so you can see what I mean. Thanks for your help Hermann
  21. Can anyone help with cause, oil leaking from valve cover area, very low mileage bike. Out of warranty.
  22. Here's a pic of the right saddle bag off '83#2. Great conversation piece. Never knew so much damage could be caused by a caliper overheating.. This is the only thing it could have been because the caliper is sitting right next to this area of the bag. Talk about smokin'.... The cover of the bag was in great shape so I replace the back with an extra I had with a funky cover. Looks great....now... :)
  23. I have been running Rotela T Synthetic in my 1st Gen for the last 20k miles. There is a tiny leak that is really nothing more than an annoyance either comming from the stator or the transmission cover. Just enough to make a small wet spot under the kick stand but not ebough to ever have to add any oil between changes. I've changed the gasket on the transmission cover but that made no difference at all. I'm beginning to think it may simply be synthetic oil. I've heard different opinions but my question was, would it hurt anything to go to Rotela T standard oil? The bike runs great and I don't want to do anything to screw it up. As you can tell I'm no mechanic. Just wanted ya'lls advice.
