  1. How do I adjust the squelch on my CB ? I've fiddled with the different settings but I can't find CB or Squelch Thanks
  2. Hello everyone I'm new to the RSV and have a basic question about the intercom. We currently have the Chatterbox wireless. I would like to connect these headsets to the RSV intercom system. I assume we simply need two cables to connect from the helmet to the intercom jack? Anything else that might cause problems? Thanks! Jerry
  3. Alan has put braided brake lines on my RSV, there is no air in the line, but still no brakes!! Question from him: is the factory fitted master cylinder okay with braided lines??
  4. My eyes are starting to get really tired from looking at almost 20 pages of posts about GPS hookups, 12 volt power outlets, hooking direct to battery, not doing that, fuse, no fuse, etc, etc. I have a 2005 RSTD. Here's my question: The aux DC terminal under the seat has a brown lead and a black lead, the 12 volt power outlet has a red wire and white wire. Does it matter which color is hooked to what? Also, is the aux DC terminal already fuse protected? Just want to make sure I do this right because I still have 47 payments left on the bike Seems like a simple question but I have been told that I often do the simple things with a deal of difficulty.
  5. Can someone please tell me if a stator for a 1991 royale would work for a 1986 royale? Thank you
  6. OK... I ordered a Garmin 2720 Last night along with the Ram mount and the Motorcycle mount kit. My Next question is... MUSIC... What is the best and most reasonable cost for a music storage device? MP3... I POD... Etc. I know Nothing about these devices... so please feel free to educate me as well. Last question... Once i have all these in my hands .... Will I need anything special to make it all work on the RSV. Thank you Reaney in NH
  7. Quick question... I'm in the middle of reassembling the rear end of my 2002 Venture. Did the hub maintenance and pulled the driveshaft to clean and lube. Managed to get the front re-inserted but my question is about the rear. How can I be sure that the grease seal slides into place in the rear differential? Do I just put it in place and tighten it up? Don't want a bad seal or ruined parts if I force it by snugging down the acorn nuts. Thanks Ross
  8. I've been meaning to remove the YICS chamber on my 83 before it becomes a problem. I bought some caps to plug the ports with, but got reined-in very quickly when I tried to get a good look at the inner YICS cylinder ports : the outer hoses are no issue, but I can't even see the inner ones. So my question is this : is it possible to remove the YICS hoses & cap off the ports without having to pull the whole carb rack ? It looks way too tight in there for my hands. I do have a 4-yr old, but she isn't all that handy with a pair of pliers (yet). Just wondering...
  9. I'm finally getting around to installing the new to me final drive pumpkin I snagged from Lonestarmedic and thought it would be wise to lube the shaft before sticking it in. Question is: How do you disconnect the shaft from the pumpkin end to lube it?
  10. The one thing I have learned since joining this web site is the amount of knowledge contained and shared by the members. I am in the market for an intercom system because I am tired of hollering and getting punched in the side, tapped on the helmet, and ignored when I have a question of my passenger. Here is a link to the unit I am considering. Any suggestions? BTW...I have read several links about the subject but I just want to be sure. http://www.wearecb.com/store/motorcycle-intercom-rf-limited-riderlink-st1-audio-system-p-3122.html
  11. I am planing on changing the rear shock soon on my 86VR. The Progressive 420 is a little expensive, but if it makes as much difference as when I changed the fronts forks to Progressive it will be worth it. My question is do you still have the use of the class system on the bike and how much difference can I expect to see?
  12. I am a new member and appreciate all that contribute here. Can anyone tell me the specific differences between the old and new clutch baskets. Also, does anyone have the part number for the "I" basket. Thanks
  13. Hi gang, I have a neighbor that stopped by yesterday and asked me if I wanted to buy is old goldwing, For the past 5 years I kinda have seen it parked in his garage and always told him that you need to ride that thing to keep the dust off of it. It has 42K on it and he say the carbs leak but starts, I see that it is in good shape , so ask how much?? He say's (5) I think and say $5,000.00 ??? He say's nope $500.00, my Question is how much are these going for these days? I am sure 500 is a pretty good deal and might pick it up this week to restore it a little , won't take much. but was wondering are the carbs on that year hard to work on? Carb's leak a little when running... What do you guys think? Thanks for any input. Jeff
  14. I cleaned the carbs, replaced the diaphragms and then synced it this weekend. Now my question is, When I first start it up cold (San Antonio cold 70*) it runs really poorly, but as soon as it warms up, it goes like a gasoline coated cat (don't ask me how I know what that looks like). Shoudl it do that or am I just being paranoid? (I know they're out to get me)
  15. How can I tell if my dues are showing paid? I know....probably a dumb question but I meet the specs.....LOL Jerry K:Venture:
  16. A new nickel-tungsten alloy developed at MIT could become the new alternative to the chrome coatings we all know and love. See the article below: http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2009/metal-0519.html The only question is will it be widely available before my scooter wears out.
  17. Just pulled two of the four carb sliders/diaphrams and each had three or four tiny pin holes and I suppose need replaced. My question is, I have a second set of carbs with unknown issues and want to ask if the entire diaphram assembly can be exchanged from one set of carbs to another? Looking at things and considering all things, I don't see why not. However, I don't consider myself an expert on things of this nature and just want to ask those that are. Second question is, I just had the Carbtune hooked up and all four carbs showed really low on the tubes. All seemed to be even but just way, way low. I tried turning the idle up but no improvement. What is this indicating and what must I do to raise them. I thought I know how to sync carbs but I guess I don't. Thanks
  18. my friend owns a 86 and he loves it, he asked me a question that i couldnt answer,i told him to join the site and i think that he is going to, thats good, so the question that he asked me is,@ a steady speed of 40 to 45 mph his bike seems to hesitate and sputter a bit, and it does it all the time, does anybody have good advice that could help solve this problem, let me thank you in advance for your help. thank you:thumbsup2:
  19. stupid question but Im gettign a new rear tire soon and ive rear that the shaft spline should be greased while the whell is off. question is doese the shat have to be removed to get the wheel off or whould that be extra work nott needed to just replace the tire? just want to know if my mechanic would need to charge extra ?
  20. sorry, i messed this post up! see http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35536
  21. Buddy I got the new deflectors today and they look great. Ill post pics on the Firefighter edition RSV if I ever ge the decal guy to finish!!! LOL Just a question but can you make these in a Diamond plate Aluminum?
  22. I know this might be a question with many many answers like what oil, what tires, what this, or what that but here goes:witch_brew:...Is there a 1st gen year model that tends to be the most desireable? The most undesireable? I have read the history section explaining the breakdown between the year models and it seems like I have read a thread discussing this but can't find it now. The bike that Freebird found (89 SS) :cool10:sounds like the best built 1st gen but I'm talking about "in general" the 1200 vs the 1300 etc...
  23. Did Yamaha ever put a V-4 emblem on any of the bikes that have one? TERRY
  24. I have some questions that I cannot find reference to in any articles so far. I just did my spring maintainence, oil, filter and final drive oil. I am really glad that I got the Carbon 1 lift adaptor, it made my life so much easier, doing all this by myself. With the bike still on the side stand, I drained the oil, and removed the old oil filter. This is the first question What exactly is that "rectifier" piece that blocks the oil filter at the front? What a pain in the ass that is, and could they not have given us like 1/2 inch more, so we could get a socket on the cap for the oil filter? The manual says to take it off to get access to the oil filter, but I just manage with a strap type oil filter wrench, although that is a pain as well. Well, I bought a new yamaha oil filter (last time I do that $14, they can kiss my ) Well I have a case of 10-40 oil from a friend, no friction modifiers. I also had about a litre of 20-50 left in a 4L jug of yamalube (first oil change) and a litre of 10-40 yamalube (second oil change) so I just tossed them both in (waste not want not) and topped off with the penzzoil 10-40. Second question, Does anyone think that mixing the viscosities, and oils will affect anything? I just didn't want to waste that oil. I guess I am a cheap ass when you get right down to it. I changed the oil filter, and put the plug with new crush gasket ($2 for that. Does anyone know of a better place to buy them?) Then I took off my left saddle bag, easy job thanks to Dragerman and the hand tightening bolts he gave me. Then I drained the final drive oil. I changed it last year too, I don't think that it can be changed too often can it? The drain bolt had what appeared to be some kind of grease all over it, I wiped it clean and re-installed it. 3rd question, was I supposed to add some kind of grease to the plug? I then affixed my lift adaptor to the bike, and jacked it up. Carbon 1 lift adaptor worked flawlessly. I affixed the legs to the adaptor, and removed my jack. Now I set to refilling all the fluids I drained. With the bike level and upright, was a breeze. First I filled the rear end drive oil. I filled it to the bottom of the fill hole using an oil syringe I got at walmart. It just did not seem to be as much as I put in last time. So I spun the rear wheel by hand in neutral. The oil got sucked up in the drive, I left it for a bit with the wheel stopped, and very slowly the oil level was visible again at the bottom of the fill bolt hole. I spun it again, and when the level dropped, I added more oil maybe 50 ml more, and put the plug back in quickly and tightened. Question 4, will overfilling the final drive a bit, cause me any problems? I filled the engine oil as well, no problems there, and checking the level was a breeze. Usually that is the biggest pain for me, doing it by myself. So, any answers to my silly questions?
  25. My '86 venture was missing the CB when I bought it and now I'm integrating a FRS/GMRS radio for an easy (cheap) bike to bike solution. I figured out how to integrate the unit with the bike intercom using the CB jack on the amplifier and the built in PTT switches. What I need to figure out is how to cut the radio out automatically when using the FRS (like the CB does). On this web site (http://www.delusional-mechanic.com/) he identified that the center pin has 8V on it when the vox has cut out the radio. My question is: Is the 8v a result of the mechanism that cut the radio out or is it the signal that is cutting it out?? In other words If I send 8V on this pin to the radio, will it cut it out the radio, blow it up or have no affect?? Thanks Mike
