  1. Got the wobble on the way to work this morning at 76 mph (GPS indicated). Slowed down to 65 and the wobble subsided. Temp was 34 degrees and air pressure in tire is at 35 psi. I'll try different air pressures to see if that will take care of the problem. I work hard trying to make BabyDoll weathy, but I don' want to make her wealthy and a widow at the same time. Glenn
  2. I am starting my projects today....lowering the rear, lowering the front, installing a HID Exnon headlight, removing the tape player for a storage box ( maybe the gauge set). raising the handlebars, having the seat reworked by Rick Bulter, installing a fake blinking alarm light when the bike is turned off, installing the front air shock 2 to 1 air value, filling tires with Ride-On......... Oil and tires are good.... is there something else I should do while on jacks. 2005, 8000miles . Already has passing light, XM radio, extra brake light, larger horns. Cb
  3. Does anyone know where to get a two-into-one air filler for the front struts? That way I can be relatively sure both sides have the same pressure. Thanks, Glenn
  4. I need a few parts for my cruise addition project. I am adding a 1988 cruise control to my 1983 plain jane I need the bracket that mounts to the triple tree that the cruise light pod screws to. Also the rubber grommet that goes around the ignition switch. They are items #13 & 14 on attached PDF of parts listing. Anything from 1986 thru 1993 should work. Also I need a set of throttle cables from a bike that had cruise (83-93). I have the pulley box that connects the upper and lower cables. I didn't realize cables were different until I got the bike stripped down yesterday. Will the cables from a second gen work for what I need? I see several sets of these on Ebay for very little. They look very similar in pictures. Also could use a 1983 TCI unit. A clutch side foam grip would also be nice. I got the throttle side one with the right hand electrical control. Also, I bought a rear shock with a spring. The one I bought is from a 1987. I did not get the air line that goes into the right top of the shock. The one on my 83 that only has the air bag goes into the left side of the shock and is too short. Or, if anyone can tell me what the threads are going into the shock, maybe I can get an adapter. I have an extra fork tube air set with shrader valve. I might be able to couple to existing line with one of the air lines from this if I knew thread size. If you have any of these PM or email me price with shipping. Thanks Gary
  5. (First, I'm not getting anything from this. Just thought this could help out the bike owners here. And if this isn't where the post needs to be or if it's not allowed, feel free to move or delete.) If anyone is interested, there may be a quality replacement air adjustable shock available for us. I also have a Road Star and I'm a member at the Road Star Clinic. One of the members is "Tricky" of TrickyAir.com. A few of the Roadie riders have bought his air ride kits lately and have nothing but good things to say about his air ride kit and their dealings with him. I sent him a PM earlier asking if he could supply a replacement shock for our Royals and he said he probably already has a shock that would work but he would need pics and measurements. By the way... it comes with a small compressor for adjustments. If anyone is interested I'll put his info below for you. As far as pricing, check out his website. I believe they are all priced the same. And I know he will do a 3 hr discount at the Clinic every now and then... To give you an idea of what the kit is... http://roadstarclinic.com/images/fbfiles/images/rs2-d37200e2c0bd0a588f3fdeebbe56c5fa.JPG Tricky Air & Billet 695 Sol Colston Road Finger, TN. 38334 Email: sales@trickyair.com "Call toll free at 1-866-922-3533 call direct at 731-934-9472 if that's busy call 731-934-9470"
  6. Just wondering what your experience is with the Progressive Suspension Air Fork Balance Kit. 1) How long have you had them? 2) Have you had any trouble with them leaking? 3) Would you buy them again? 4) If you are not using this kit how do you manage to balance your front fork air pressure or do you leave it at “0”?
  7. Just put on a new NEXAN C/T 165x80x15 on a 06 RSTD 44 k miles. Been running MET880. Question at speeds over 70 rear end floats and sways while going down HWY 85. Up to 70 did great. Running 31lbs ov air.. should I increse air preasure. Heading to Maryland next week....
  8. Hi there, can anyone recommend a retrofit for the rear air shock and compressor system for the first gen bikes?.... mine is toast and I think I want to just install a quality monoshock and chuck all the old components. thanks for any advice Gary
  9. Need some help with the heater on my daughter 1996 Sebring. The car has about 160,000 mile on it and the heater is not working the way it should. This started last year. When it at idle it will not blow any heat, only cool air, but when you rev it or drive it the the cool air changes to hot and then back to cool when you stop. I changed the thermastate and the coolant level is good. I thought it may be the heater core so I flushed it with the garden hose, but still no heat. I know there has to be a few members good with a wrench that can suggest things to try.
  10. A friend of mine (who hasn't joined us....yet) is looking for chrome air filter canisters and can't find them. Any ideas? He owns a white 2005 RSTD and he just ordered the Khrome Werks pipes because he likes how my bike sounds. I already checked Cruiser Customising without luck. Any help is appreciated. silverdeer
  11. So I got my shock air pump in today and went to add air the the shocks. It had zero in both front forks and rear shock. The rear pumped up to 30psi I'll try that and see how it is but the front forks will not pump up at all. What do you think is causing this? This sucks!!!! I have been ridding with no psi with my girl friend a total weight of around 325lbs and never had the rear bottom out. Should I run 30psi in it?
  12. I have a 2000 RSV. It has been in the same spot all summer as I can not ride this year. I start it from time to time just to hit the air horns and hear the bike run. Now when I try to start it all I get is a tapping sound. The lights do not to dim and I am using a new bat. Everything works but the starter. I have no idea what to do. HELP When I remove the left cover all I see is box with fuses in it,the carbheat sensor, and a couple wries that I have my air horns and the original horns tied to.
  13. My front forks will not hold air, brand new bike... I will look at getting it repair in the winter not at the end of the season, unless it is dangrous to ride without air or do I really need the air? I'm sure this will be repair under warranty but is it something I will be taking back time after time.. Hell I even thought of using that fix flat but said naw better not...LOL So do you really need air or is it just another headache?
  14. Let me try this again; I have hot, as in extreme, air coming of the engine. I pulled the exhaust and found a crack in the downtube and collector as well as broken welds on the collectors mounting bracket. I fixed those, reassembled, thought I had it fixed and suddenly there was that wisp of hot air again. Took it apart again found a pinhole in the downtube they missed when welding and reinstalled with new crushwashers. The other gaskets are in good condition! Went to Rome GA, all was well for the first three hours!! during the last half hour both Brenda and I could feel the heat coming up, by the time we got to Fudruckers things were back to normal. On the way back we had no problem going down to Atlanta but halfway between Atlanta and Greenville, it got bad enough that I had to put my legs on the pegs to get some relief. I locked the throttle for a bit and rested my elbow on Brenda's knee and you could feel the wave of hot air rushing up and out between my thigh and her shin. So in short: -engine temp is consistently showing midway in the green. -weather /driving speed is not a factor, -I have a heat problem that comes and goes. I know RandyA says heat is no problem with shorts on, Randy come ride my bike and make that claim. Folks, I would love to hear some options, why would this not be consistent? If it is exhaust should it not be consitently hot? Where might this be coming from if not the exhaust? How do you trace something that is intermittent and burried under all kinds of plastic? I took the darn pipes of twice now for this and I'm gonna have to find the source of this dadburn bun burner, cause it ain't no fun. This is war!!! I know I could argue winter is coming and I currently have a build in forced air heater, so why complain, but that is hardly the point
  15. I know a lot of you run K&N Air filters.. I have to ask, how often are you cleaning these things out, 'recharging' them as it were? I installed mine last summer, 31,000 miles ago to be exact and just now recharging them (they are soaking with the cleaner right now).. and they are just like brand new except for the spot right in front of where the air comes into the box.. a 2 inch diameter grey spot.. the rest of it is nice and red.. wow.. are you kidding me?? I have K&N's on my VSTAR, mind you they sit out in the open so they require more frequent cleaning but is this right, only once a year? And I've been up and down a lot of dirt roads, rain, dust fog and birds.. I'm impressed!! Or should I be doing them more often on spec anyway? I just did the hot hot water from inside-out rinsing and there was a lot of fresh RED oil floating around the tub.. almost as if these were brand new.. wow.
  16. So who out there can help me find a pump to adjust the air in my shocks? I read somewhere that it needs to be a certain type to be able to add and remove the PSI Thanks
  17. What a great ride, crisp fall air, the harvest smells in the air, beautiful sunset and a nice (too short) chat with Rocket who brought my t-shirt back from Cody after I had to drop out. Thanks Rocket for doing that. Nothing like a 500 km ride in the fall evening to remind me how much I love this bike!!
  18. I had one of these on my Honda VTX1800 and really liked having a loud horn. Anyone here have one on there RSV is so where did you mount and do you have any pictures? Thanks

    Air??

I have always run my air at 12 lbs for the front and 45 lbs for the rear. I noticed since I got "Ugly" that I was having a lot harder time with low speed handling. Today I was playing with the air settings and rode a while with 9 lb in the front and 35 in the back. Memories of the "Blue Beast" coming back. Handles GREAT. It just never entered my head(too full of knowledge) that the bike would handle the air that much different. It just doesn't take as much air for "Ugly" to sit up as much as the "Blue Beast" did. Too much air was putting me out of my comfront zone along with the leg and I was blaming everything on the leg. Point I'm trying to make is "Play with it once in a while" NO! NO! The air settings!! Adjust them a little different and see how it feels. See how it feels......... Hey Muffin I think I'll be ready for that ride!! Hurry up and get home!!
  20. After trying all searches I haven't come across an answer to my question so here goes. Since buying my 06 RSTD I've been running it with no air in the rear shock. We've ridden 2-up quite a bit on different roads and haven't bottomed out. The biggest advantage in running with 0 psi for me is that the bike is lower so my short little legs allow me to reach the ground easier. My biggest concern is that everybody seems to be running more than 20 lbs in the rear shock. I just re-read the manual which states: SPRING RATE: Minimum (soft): 0 psi Standard: 0 psi Maximum (hard): up to a max of 57 psi Does anybody run 0 psi in the rear??? Is there a negative other than bottoming out if running 0 psi??? Thanks Greg
  21. and I promise this will be my last post on this subject. Flame it if you must, but just read it all before you do. After the "healthy" discussion in the previously related post I decided to get an experts view on the AIS. I talked to a factory-cert'd mechanic today and asked him to explain the system in general, not just specific to our Ventures. He said that any changes to the exhaust, from merely drilling small holes in the baffles, to a full-on custom exhaust will cause the injection system to perform at less-than-designed efficiency. The less back-pressure, or restriction down stream will allow more fresh, cooler air to be drawn thru the injection system into the exhaust, thereby causing the detonation of unburned gasses that we hear. He said this was one of the issues that H-D encountered when they introduced the "parade-mode" of dropping the rear cylinder in idling situations to help keep the bike cooler. Add aftermarket pipes and the amount of fresh air being pumped into the rear cylinder increased and caused the same thing we are seeing when the rear cylinder came back up. He said he has tried unsucessfully to fabricate some sort of "orfice" that would restrict the amount of air equal to stock conditions. He said fuel injected bikes were less-succeptible to it, and easier to correct. I asked if he had encountered other problems thru the years that contributed to the problem, and he said "of course", the same as mentioned here, fouled plugs, leaky vac. lines, old fuel, and on and on, but the main problem was the relieving of the back pressure. He's an old-school kind of guy, so I didn't bring up the Polar Bears and global warming. I'm done now.
  22. I removed my CLASS suspension control as it was being flakey and not letting air out of the system, only adding it. It was not working at all in AUTO mode. Clumsy me, I dropped it face down on the hard floor, and the LCD readout broke. Now it doesn't work at all. Goes haywire when i try to use it. Am I best off to leave it unplugged? Can you add air to the front or back or let air out manually? Does anyone have one for an 87 model that works? Send me a PM and I'll get back to you. As always, thanks for looking and I appreciate any info.
  23. Apparently I've fallen a bit behind with the news. But I just found out that there is another FUTURAMA movie, "Into the Wild Green Yonder", AND On [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_9]June 9[/ame], [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009]2009[/ame], Fox announced that 26 new episodes will be produced for [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy_Central]Comedy Central[/ame]. Which will be the 6th season to air in 2010 - 2011. I don't know if I can wait that long! What shall I do?!
  24. I finally found an easy way to get the breather hose from the crankcase back onto the air box. Just reached in and slipped it on! No hassle! Tooks seconds! No 11" pliers! Really! All you have to do is remove the rear subframe and fuel tank and there it is! And no, I haven't been into the beer.......yet.
  25. I Need the air line that comes off the solenoid for the rear shock, The part that I need starts with the banjo bolt and goes to the coupler at the right side under the seat it's about 8" Long. Or I need a way to splice mine back together. Thanks
