That's exactly what I have to remember every time my wife speaks.

It is an amazing device, loaded with a tremendous amount of information. But be warned - it is not 100% correct. You may get directed to a wrong location, or because of road changes you may be told to turn where you can't. A little common sense should be utilized along with the GPS. But it is a huge help. I like to go for a ride on roads I have never been on before - get good and lost. Then have Garmin give me directions back home.

Kit, I suggest you log onto the Garmin web page and check to see if there are any updates for the 'firmware' on you computer. Often times there will be revisions to the software that is installed on your Garmin, that enhances it's performance and takes care of 'bugs' that may effect the unit. Just go to the updates and downloads link, and do a check for your 450. They should lead you through any steps you need to take. I have a 550, and just recently updated mine with the latest software. If you do this, it will keep the unit up to date with the latest software.

I hated to see those pictures, Brad. But I was thankful to see you had a wide, grass median to land in. I think that had a big influence on the outcome. Good to see you two up and about.

Put me down for a 545 please.

Gearhead had a post on another thread where he stated some information he had received after talking to a Odyssey rep. He stated "We do recommend the MJ version for the Venture because we have found it be hotter with less circulation". I am not sure if they were referring to the first gen or second gen, but there does seem to be a conflict of information.

My experience with Kerosene must be different that most. When kerosene is fresh, it is almost clear, with a slight kerosene smell. That's the type you want to burn in your heater. But kerosene breaks down over time, and turns a more yellow color. The kerosene smell is more intense with older fuel, too, and takes on kind of a sour smell. If you use the older fuel in your heater, it will of course burn, but will cause a more pronounced smell until the heater gets up to operating temperature. Additionally, you will develope deposits more rapidly on the wick requiring frequent cleaning or replacement. Kerosene heater manufacturers usually recommned only using fresh kerosene. These days, that is not always easy to find. But often you can find some packaged in a 5 gallon can at Lowe's or similar places. This fuel has been treated with a preservative so it doesn't decompose as quickly, giving it a longer shelf life. The only thing I use old Kerosene for is to start the burn pile after cleaning up the yard.

Condor, The 680 battery is more powerful than the 545. Won't the 680 work in the 2nd Gens?
-
Yea, so far I have 3 Odyssey batteries - 2 in Sea-Doos, and one in my riding mower. I installed them this spring, so we'll see how they hold up. When the battery in my Venture fails, I will replace it with an Odyssey also.
-
Cougar, did you say that you have been using the same Odyssey battery for ten years? If so, that's fantastic!

I put many miles on a Goldwing, and never considered reverse an option, but rather a necessity. I still feel that way, and wish my Venture had reverse, but made allowances, such as the ones previously described. I would never turn down the convenience of reverse - it proved invaluable in many situations in the past. However, I would never turn down the Venture. It is a much more comfortable motorcycle for me. I enjoy the ride.

I hope you're joking.

Spear, Do you have any info on why the speedo won't comply with the new design rules? Seems like if the speedo tells you how fast you are going, what more do you need?

Joopster, there have many articles here about the level links. They have been strongly endorsed by most everyone who had installed them. One such thread is http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3007&highlight=level+links Although the instructions that come with the links say you can install them without removing the back wheel, I did remove the wheel on mine for easier access, but I know others did it with the wheel in place. In either case you will need a lift to get the weight of the bike off the back tire. That may help you decide if you want to take it to the dealer or not.

Between the radiator and the engine, down low. Look for it just to the left of the oil filter. The horn outlet points down and to the back of the bike.

This month's Road Runner Magazine - Great!

I also am a subscriber and saw Al's letter to the editor. Didn't know that Al was a member of VentureRider.org. Thanks for speaking up, Al. And, nice picture of your bike. -
I think thom440 is referring to Carbon One's lift adaptor, with the leg attachment.

Didn't know the season was over. It's just getting comfortable again here in Texas. Head south, we still got a couple of months of real nice riding.
-
I've owned both. I definetly prefer the RSV because it is much more comfortable. The wing has "smooth/quiet" advantages, as well as more space to store stuff when traveling, but seating/feet position is not as conducive to long rang touring as the RSV. I much prefer the Venture.

Electronic guitar tuner! Low tech?

We all share the ache. Perhaps Kit will find the cure. Or anyone else who is willing to try. We know it is up to us.

I haven't had any problems with mine. You ought to take it back to the dealer for warranty work.

I got one from Freebird - fantastic. Installed in about 15 minutes. The hardest part of installation was stretching the spring - in other words - very simple. Use mine often. When in the garage, the bike takes up less space if it is standing upright versus leaning over on side stand. You can check oil level, change oil, wash bike, etc. much easier with center stand. Don't know why the bike didn't come with one. My Goldwing had one, and I used it all the time. As for use, it is easier to get the bike on the centerstand than take it off. But neither is a problem. If I want to use the lift, I have to take the center stand off, but that is easy enough for as often as I will do it. Except for changing the back tire, I don't really need the lift. Bottom line, go for it, and hope Freebird has one for sale.
