  1. Sisters, but obviously not identical twins. If I had my choice, I would go for warm, sunny sand. Of course, my wife wants to do an Alaskan cruise. So.....next July, we're gonna do......
  2. Flat tire on the rear (I believe Murphy's Law dictates it be the rear tire because that is the hardest one to get off), while traveling 2 up on the highway. Accelerated to pass a semi at 70 mph when I noticed a strange shimmy. Backed off the acceration, it went away. Turned the throttle on again, and it was worse. Pulled back in behind the semi, slowed down and stopped on the shoulder. The bike was hard to control, wanted to wallow real bad. Got myself and the wife off and noticed the rear tire was flat. Said a quiet "Thank You" for the safe landing.
  3. Monsta, in the state of Hawaii, wants to take a cruise in Alaska. Wonder where the folks in Alaska would like to take a cruise to? RCCL does offer nice accomodations, but I think the Princess line is a little more upscale, and has better cuisine.
  4. The whine, or more accurately said "chirp", is more noticeable on some bikes than others. Some are down right objectionable. Fortunately for you yours is agreeable to you. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones.
  5. Here's their web page. http://mic-mutes.com
  6. I'll give that a try. I was afraid to force them, didn't want to hear that plastic cap crack. Thanks.
  7. If you do decide to go with headsets, I definitely recommend installing the mic-mutes. What a difference, especially at highway speeds. Well worth the money.
  8. Thanks. I have the service manual, and noticed nothing mentioned in there.
  9. After removing the tank and dogbone, I went to pull up the spark plug cap on a front spark plug. I could pull it part way up before hitting interference from above, but not far enough up to clear the plug. I didn't want to force anything and kink the wire or break the cap, so I stopped there and put it all back together. How do you get the plug wire up far enough on those front plugs to allow access to change the plugs? What's your technique?
  10. My fan does cycle on when needed, but I have never heard it. I first noticed it when I was syncronyzing the carbs. The fan is so quiet, you won't hear it come on, but you will notice an increase in heat around your legs.
  11. I agree with Goose. I did not notice any height difference, just a tremendous difference in handling at low speeds. I do notice, however, that the bike leans more on the side stand than it used to. Some have reported an increase in responsiveness at highway speeds, but I didn't realize that.
  12. I have a friend who said he filled a rusted gas tank with motor oil, and let it sit, intending to clean it out later on and coating the inside. He thought the motor oil would prevent further oxidation. When he finally got around to draining out the oil, he was amazed at how clean and shiney the inside of the tank was. The oil had dissolved/removed all the rust! I haven't verified this works, but thought it might be worth passing on.
  13. Thanks for checking, Jay. I am going to have to get one of those.
  14. Do we know if it has anything on the inside of the cover, in the area of the windshield, that will prevent scratching the windshield? I can imagine it could get abrasive as we pull it down over the windshield to cover the bike.
  15. Hmmmmm. I wonder if it is heat related. Has anyone noticed it happening during cool weather?
  16. Thanks for the memories. The wife and I made that trip a few years back on a Goldwing. Back then, most of the road was dirt, only the first section was paved, and there were NO guard rails. We had clouds on one side of the mountain, and nice sunshine on the other. So we went from seeing a beautiful vista, to being in a fog that barely allowed you to see 10 yards in front of you. The hardest part for me was that I was stuck behind a car that took each hairpin curve about 3 or 4 mph. It was hard to keep the bike balanced maneuvering like that. It was early June, and they were staging the cameras and vans for the Pikes Peak hill climb. After we got home, I watched those guys race flat-out up that mountain on TV, with a new respect for what they were doing. I enjoyed the adventure. My wife says she will never do that again.
  17. I think I need some help understanding that one. (?)
  18. Did you find it a mess to clean up because of the Ride-On, or was everything with the wheels neat and clean?
  19. You're a lucky man.
  20. Are those valve stems changed out every time you change tires?
  21. Do they cover the rear shock beyond the 5 year period?
  22. I also have installed the level links from Diamond R. What a difference that made in handling, as stated before. I don't think you would notice a difference in two bikes if you put them side-by-side (with and without levelers), but you definitely feel the improvement with the level links. What I don't understand is why Yamaha didn't make them that way in the first place. If you try them, I think you will agree, along with the rest of us.
  23. Might be the wrong end of town for you, but have you tried Houston Yamaha Motorsports South in Stafford? http://www.houstonyamaha.com/ Tim, their service manager has done right by me.
  24. You ought to put a voltmeter across your battery with the engine running and see if your alternator is charging the battery.
