Craig- Looks like you did a lot of work! I did the needle mod only on my '86. At first it did nothing but I notice a difference the next spring. What happened during the winter is anybodies guess. Here's my thought: Start checking each mod individually. Put the nylon washers (or equivilent) back on the sliders and see if your mileage changes, up or down. The new TCI may have had the biggest effect. Next, put the original back in, if possible. Etc, etc, etc and see if you find what may the big change. Could be a lot of work but when you find what had the big impact you can do research to find the right answer. FYI, I did adjust my mixture screws and I don't think they are more than 2.25 from the bottom. Dave

I have a Shark in my boat. Sound pretty good but the volume only goes up so far. It would work well around town but might have issues are freeway speeds. Dave

Utah has some of the greatest scenery. Come up through the 4 corners area, you can stop in Moab/Arches National Park. There is also Zions National Park just 30 min away from St. George, UT. An easy side trip. Even if you don't come all the way north to SLC, you can cross on I70, take I15 to Las Vegas, on to Baker, CA (I think) and then go north. Hope it helps! Dave

Temps in Utah valleys are upper 60's during the afternoon and mid 40's at night. Mountain passes are usually about 10 degrees cooler. There could be some afternoon quick showers here and there. If you come to SLC and then across I80, donner pass could be the tricky part and you'll want to check the weather. Stop by if you come up our way. We have beds and showers at a reasonable price LOL. Oh, you'll need to swing by Hilldale, UT or Colorado City, AZ for the extra wives. Dave

I'm happy camper

Great you got it going!! Get a carb sync on as best you can now. Add some Seafoam to the tank and go run it hard. Let the remaining Seafoam set a night or two and then run it again. A final carb sync ought to have it running pretty smooth. Dave -

weird clutch problem
utadventure replied to mike042's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you clutch was in that condition, your brakes may be in the same shape. You may want to do the same with your brakes....you don't want a failure there. Dave -
You notice, there isn't a pic with me!

When Alan and Annie had to head back to Ozland, Alan asked that I watch after his bike until they could come back. He asked if I would get her out of the garage every now and then, so..... Tonight a group of us took our bikes to a church youth group. I took Alan's bike and, needless to say, it didn't go lonely for long.

Can't get carb sync going.
utadventure replied to goatman123's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
In past threads there has been discussion about making sure the vacuum ports on the carbs aren't plugged from sitting. Also, I think it was Condor, help a member and mentioned making sure all of the sync screws were backed out so that the reading weren't effected, as well as setting the mix screws to a base setting. Help me out here Jack.... do I remember your advise correctly? Dave -
We have a cure for that!! You'll just have to come back. Glad you're home safe. Dave & Jan

cold starting
utadventure replied to barend's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It still has the symptoms of a bad battery. In addition to the numbers you posted, batteries have cold cranking amps. You can have 12+ volts but have diminished ability to crank. Pull your battery and most auto parts stores can test it with a load on it. Dave -
Cassett deck elimination.....?
utadventure replied to fixit3546's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have done this mod and it works great. Something I learned by accident, if you attach an IPOD and forget the flip the switch, the sound still overrides the radio and comes out the headset. Dave -
Go Blondie!!! Dave

Welcome to the forum!! Sounds like you got a great bike. Ride it like you stole it, oh....and add some seafoam to the tank and let and road clean the carbs while you ride, ride, ride. Dave -
Usually there is a power supply line to the clock that goes directly to the battery (doesn't go through the ignition). Likely you have a blown fuse on that line. Dave
