Prayers sent and get well soon. Mike

Sounds like you may be doing some two-up riding. If you are new to the bike scene the Venture is a large heavy touring bike. It is great for riding two and outstanding on long trips. But be sure to get some practice with it first, especially in parking lots and such. It can be a handful for a newbie. Go ahead ask me how I know. Mike

The power is much improved if you keep the rpm up. The pipes will sound better after about 12k. Ride Safe and Be Happy Mike

Masterguns Thank you for your service at Khe Sanh. A little history for those who don't know about the Khe Sanh or the Tet offensive. On January 23 1968 the USS Pueblo was attacked and captured by North Korea. http://www.usspueblo.org/ At the time I was with the 91st Bomb Wing headquartered at Glasgow Montana. In response to the Pueblo we along with the 306th Bomb Wing mobilized heavily armed B52Ds to Kadina AB on Okinawa . Operation Port Bow. It looked like we were on the brink of another major war. Possibly with the direct involvement of China who was saber rattling over Formosa. Then on January 30th the Tet Offensive began in Vietnam with major attacks on many of our bases and outposts. We re-armed our aircraft to conventional bombs and began flying round the clock missions in support of our ground troops including those at Khe Sanh, Dong Ha and others.Operation Niagara and Operation Arc Light. At one point we launched over 27,000 B52 sorties in one 30 day period. When you consider each B52 carried the payload of ten B29s that is a lot of response. Not counting all of the other forces involved. In the end Khe Sanh became the focal point in a hard fought battle between the Marines (special forces) and Viet Cong that lasted 77 days. At one point the US forces were completely surrounded by over 30,000 enemy troops. The Marines prevailed. Contrary to the news media back in the states the Tet Offensive was the end of the Viet Cong as a major fighting force in southeast Asia and a huge victory for the US. From then on the war was waged by North Vietnamese troops. Whom we defeated at the end of 1972. Then bowing to media, political, pressure we just up and left. Leaving the country in turmoil and setting the stage for what eventually became the Killing Fields. Mike

Glad you came through it ok. Mike

randya Here is an article on the largest air battle since WWII. It starts with a list of the aircraft involved. If you look at that list you will see there were over 100 f4s from Thiland in the battle. Since I was with the B52s it is more about their part but read it and then tell me again you are not a Vietnam vet. Your service in Thiland earned you a Vietnam service ribbon. Wear it with pride. Keven I served in Vietnam but we cannot forget the service personnel like yourself who were not 'in country'. Every bomb dropped and every bullet fired came from somewhere. People like yourself inspected loaded and shipped these things. Food, fuel and clothing were all used in the war effort. Bases had to be maintained at home and around the world. This all took personnel. Lets not forget that during this time we were also fighting a very hot cold war. So don't sell your service short. Being in uniform made you a very important part of the war effort and a brother in arms where ever you happened to be posted. And I thank you for doing your part. Mike

Condensation drip is nothing to get excited about. Especially if the engine/exhaust is not fully warmed up. Remember water is a byproduct of good combustion. Check the puddle to see if there is antifreeze or coolant in it. Also a headgasget leak bad enough to cause overheating should wash out the spark plug. Then pressure check the cooling system with the spark plugs out. Don't want a cylinder filling with coolant and bending a rod. Look in the cylinders for coolant. Look for external leaks. Crank the engine over a few times before reinstalling the plugs. Make sure the fan switch is working and the fan comes on when it is supposed to. Finally make sure there is no combustion gas in the coolant. (instant bubbles when the engine is started or gas analyzer) and don't overlook dye check. OR Take it in for a warranty check. A good dealer will figure out a way to bill Yamaha for it. And yes there were some headgasget problems with 07 models. Mike

My wife had her left knee replaced this past June. We learned a few lessons some of which I thought I might share. First 'range of motion' is everything. The goal is to get as much as possible as fast as possible. In order to get it you must push the scar tissue off from around that new knee. Once that stuff hardens it is hard to get off. Read that manipulation. So in addition to the physical therapist we did intense PT every day at home. Don't wait. Get after this right away. If they will let you get a blanket and do it on the floor in the hospital. After the assigned exercises we also bent the knee as much as she could stand it. Pain pills are a must. It was difficult at first to bend her knee because she was lying on her back. This meant I would have to grab the areas that were stitched. Not good. We learned that if she rolled over on her stomach I could place one hand on the back of her calf just above the knee and the other on her ankle. This allowed me to exert quite a bit of bending force on her knee. She could also pound her fists on the floor. There are two main tendons on the back of the leg at the knee. By putting some downward pressure on these right at the back of the knee as I held her calf her pain was greatly reduced. Meaning I was able to bend further before it became unbearable. At this point she has 135 degrees of motion and we have reduced our PT to every other day. We are hoping for 140 degrees by next June. After that just maintenance exercises. Maybe we will reach our goal maybe not but we weren't willing to settle for that 90 to 110 degrees the therapist was willing to sign off on. Best of Luck Hope this Helps Mike

If you get a chance take a peak at one at a Yamaha shop or another riders. Fold the antenna down and up. Peek under the rubber boot at the connection to the antenna. It is really pretty straight foreword. A rubber boot covers the cable connection at the antenna. The antenna is a bolt on to the bracket with some insulators and a couple of lock nuts. There is also a ground connection. The other end of the cable just plugs into the CB under the trunk. Mike

The plug for the Venture audio is the same as the old computer keyboard 5 pin din cable. Just purchase a 5 pin din keyboard extension cable (if you can still find one) and you can probably reach anyplace you want. Google 5 pin din cable. Mike -
I got an interesting e-mail today from Yamaha Sports Plaza. "be one of the first to see the New 2012 YAMAHA Super Tenere" Googled it and watched the Yamaha video. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelhome/651/0/home.aspx perhaps this is the future of the Venture. Mike

SilvrT. It is not uncommon for shipping on e-bay to vary considerably between sellers. It is wise to check this before buying. When you inquired about his shipping costs was this before or after you bought? If it was after did you tell him what you wanted for a resolution? Or were you just making a complaint? If it was just a complaint with no resolution expected one e-mail is generally enough. So I can see both sides to this. And while I agree his public relations could use some improvement he did refund your money. Personality aside he stood behind his product. On e-bay that's about it. Mike

Either gauge from Harbor Freight will work just fine. While they are not professional quality they are fine for occasional use. At work I used Snap-On. At home I have these. Just make sure they have the adaptor that will screw into your spark plug holes. Mike

It appears one terminal on your fuse box is positive and one is negative. If so the capacitor (filter) is correctly wired in. It is a capacitor or possibly a limiter diode but not a resistor. Filter capacitors reduce noise or static. They can be installed anywhere in the power line and can have wires on either end or both ends depending on design. They are connected between positive and ground. Limiter diodes limit voltage spikes due to reverse EMF. They protect computer circuits and are usually installed near the device they are trying to limit. ie blower motor or ac compressor and occasionally a power relay. Not likely on a motorcycle. Mike

When I made a comment about wipers on an F4 windshield Dave Frank V.P. F4 sent me a pm right away. That was very cool. So I know they sometimes watch this site. You might want to e-mail him a link to this post. It sounds like something they could easily accommodate at the factory. Also Yamaha specifies measuring the windshield from in front of the gas cap to the top of the windshield. It wouldn't hurt for them to clear this up in their spec sheet. Mike
