There are a couple of mom and pop places in the area that are inexpensive but you get what you pay for! You could try motels in Batavia as there are several there. It depends on which end of Letchworth you are going to be. The park is narrow but about 20 miles or so long. Hope you get a chance to stop in and say hi while up here! I think you were the one that Becky was talking about meeting at MD whose wife and husband have the same initials, etc...

Why the Resister??
bongobobny replied to KarlS's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The gas gauge is most likely a separate problem. The float assembly is known to have problems. You can remove it, try to clean the wire wound potentiometer and the slider, and you can try to tighten up on it to improve the continuity, or just replace it but good luck finding another one... -
I just posted a M&E here on the 4th if you are bored or looking for something to do. See the M&E Forum and sign up on the calendar...

I agree with Mini!! There is no reason why we hard core partyers couldn't have done a lot of the picking up for you!! I'm sure the Sunday crowd could have lived without the concrete blocks, etc!! We will gladly help out with the policing of the property after the event! PS Toga Toga Toga Toga Toga TOGA...

Why the Resister??
bongobobny replied to KarlS's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Limits current and gives the proper voltage level to the sensor. It is looking for around 6 to 8 volts, not 12 volts. Supposedly some people have had their CMI go up in smoke from 12V direct... -
404's aren't the best tire for the 1st gen. Go with E3's or Avon Venoms for a much better ride and handling. Just how old are the tires?? You state that the bike spent several years on the center strand. Learn about the date code on the tires and if they are more than 6 years old, discard them and save your life...

There is also a rubber hose atached to the bottom of the airbox. Do NOT forget to reattach it...

Compare 1st gen to Road King
bongobobny replied to RWITT's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, lemme see. First gen's rarely mark their teritory, and parts, if properly installed, stay on. They have been known to last for almost 200,000 miles. Top speed of a Harley = 96 mph. Top speed of a 1st gen, 93 mph... in 3rd gear!! I think we are done here! -
Leave it to Gary to reverse engineer the TCI to make it work on the '83!! I was not aware of this but it makes sense! It's just not quite plug and play...

Ya know, I was going to suggest 2x4 or 4x4 pieces myself, either painted black, or for a nice custom finish, stained and spar varnished with marine no slip finish...

I think we may have talked about the dash at MD, or maybe it was someone else. I do need a good dash assembly for the '85 project bike eventually, but funds are a little tight this month, as they wil be all summer. Ask Old Goat if it was him I talked to about and maybe we can work out some type of deal...

Need fairings for 89 VR
bongobobny replied to Jayceesfolly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The upper fairings are the same for all years with just the paint scheme different. The lower "Knees " are also the same but if you want the chin they need the MK2 crash bars. The ABS plastic is repairable if you have the ;pieces. I have a few "repairable" upper fairings I will be getting rid of. Call me for assistance. You have been missing some great rides in the area, but that's partially my fault for not getting in touch with you yet!- 1 reply
