OK there was a thread several years ago like this one but I can't find it so I'll tell the story again. I've been Bongo Bob since the mid 70's when I was a roadie for a good friend doing local gigs. At one particular local club/bar the crowd was especially rowdy and hard core party hardy so I got loose and was beating on the table to the rhythm of the band. My friend introduced me as "Bongo Bob" and it stuck, even to the point where one night one of the regulars brought in a set of Bongos and I had to play them on stage! I live in New York state, and there is already another Bongo Bob that had already taken the name Bongo Bob on Yahoo, etc so I added the NY to my user name... -

OK the headlight fuse is in a fuse block under the fake battery cover below the seat. remove only the front allen head screw, the rear screw is decoration only. the cover clips onto the center cover, so you have to be forceful. It's the left side cover I think, or is it the right? Hmmmm... The fuse is a 15 amp fuse but with the passing lamps you may want to consider a 20 amp fuse, any short will blow a 20 amp just as easy as a 15 amp fuse...- 10 replies

That's actually a '55 there in the picture. The '56 grille went completely across and the turn signals were part of the grille. The tail lights were also different from '55 to '56. My first on the road car was a '56 with the 265 V8 in it, and automatic. Naturally being a teen I couldn't keep transmissions in it so after blowing the second one I scrapped it and got a '58...

Yup, upgrading the front suspension to accommodate better brakes is one of the smartest things to do!! You will be well served to go to stainless steel brake lines as well! Hooking up the antidive is fairly easy, just use the yellow (brake) wire to energize the relay and feed 12 volts to the solenoids...

Yes he has carpeting down where he works on the bike, and I do too! Makes it a lot better on the old body to lay on instead of a cold concrete floor especially in the winter... -
I was going to say the same thing, kill switch! Is the green neutral light on?? Try squeezing the clutch when you try to start to eliminate the kickstand switch going south. Check the ignition fuse as there may have been a short...

I am doing a frame up on my '84 and some of the highlights... Replaced front end assy with MK2 forks and brakes. Replaced rear brake with MK2. Replaced every bearing on the bike. Installed progressive springs in front shocks, progressive shock in rear. Stainless steel lines for brakes and clutch. In process... Complete engine rebuild with VMax heads, 1300 block, and V boost. Coat gas tank. There are several more mods I have done such as MK2 rear passenger floorboards and aftermarket floorboards for me and many many more minor mods. Word of warning, you will NEVER get your money out of what you invest, but the bike will be what YOU want it to be. I may finally trike mine when all is said and done but that remains to be seen yet...
