I thought you were running an IH. The Wester Star looks a bit different. That being said I realize that big truck manufacturers are changing all the time. Last big truck I drove was a Diamond T in the early to mid seventies.

Really enjoyed that.

Lifespan of V4
Sylvester replied to Shackbar's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Welcome to the site. I have over 150,000 miles on my 02 RSMV. That may slow down now since I am installing a sidecar. May look to get another bike to ride solo. Not as big as the Venture though.- 29 replies

How much heated clothing
Sylvester replied to tommycole's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Successfully running and continuous running are two different things. You can successfully run two sets of heated clothing for some time. You cannot run two sets continuously for hours. The drain on the system will catch up. When you go below 12.5 volts on your battery it is just a matter of time before disaster happens. By managing your heat use you can keep the battery voltage up. Using LEDs and not using the pass lamps is a big help. Carb heaters are not on all the time so the disconnecting of them is a matter of opinion. And that is my opinion! -
How much heated clothing
Sylvester replied to tommycole's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not a chance, unless you manage the use to each unit. Also you need to asess the total of your lighting and other electrical draw. I have Gerbing and use mostly the gloves in real cold environment. The jacket rarely is used. This bieng said, if I had my wife in the same gear the battery would be dead in short time. Look at a high output stator for the RSV and that may do the trick. These RSVs don't put out a lot of amps. -
I will stay with e-mail and the telephone. I can't remember yesterday so how the heck can I remember all those abbreviations. IASC, I am so confused. Is that on the list? I was amased that 303 meant MOM!

If you have enough interested riders, you could start your own STAR chapter. Go to the STAR web site and click on "I wanna start a chapter". From there you will get all you need. I have been involved with starting numerous chapters in my role as State Director. In two years the chapters in NC doubled. Very good bunch of folks in this state and all the others.

My Sylvester is in their shop as of this afternoon. No I am not getting a trike, but they are mounting my Hannigan Classic sidecar I bought in Mississippi last month. They seem to be very nice and organized people.

Replacing seat with harley seat
Sylvester replied to muaymendez1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I love my inserted gel pad under my original seat. I couldn't ride more than seventy five mile without getting off the bike. That was 2003. Now I ride all day without discomfort. there are many out there and you need to get the thickest possible. Mine is a Butt Buffer and the passenger seat is a Pro Pad (inserted into the rear seat), my wife loves it. -
It is just not right to be tempting all of us in the SE. I would have loved to go along but my business just got an indoor job to do so I will try to make money instead of spending same.
-
I agree, not a typical STAR ride. We have multiple riders fully indoctrinated in signals and ride safety, with no problems.

Star 4772, Why would you care what I think, no one else does. It was senseless to me meaning it made no sense. If someone else got it then the post is valid. Don't pull the post over me.

If this is a funny like your laughing fellows, don't bother responding. I find it senseless.

Dan said in his initial post that it was a 1962 Indian Chief. That is all I had to go by. Royal Enfield wound up with the Indian name in the early 50's and then they went south in the early 60's. If there is new info let us know.

What Mike said. Chime in and let them know you are there. I have been with STAR for ten years and have been a chapter officer and up to president. I was also a state director for NC. I put a lot into STAR and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I still support the association and am a member of two different chapter. You get out of it what you put into it and then some. Enjoy the commaraderie.

NO this is a British vertical twin engine with 700 CCs. A very problamatic motor due to Lucas Electrics and Royal Enfield quality issues.

Here in North Carolina the deer population is huge. I have deer in my back field two or three times a day. I can take up to eight deer a season of any sex, but I can't freeze that much meat. Therefore I only take one or two if I get one early and one late. I prefer the doe for the more tender meat. I never trophy hunt. I also have lots of turkey except they are all hens. The Toms never show there selves.

And at such a young age. I had it in 1983 and beat it, but keep getting check ups every year. God love the soldier!

Yes, Dan, leave it alone. They are waayy over priced. Rusted junk isn't worth much. Top price #1 condition is $6200. Probably and estate issue and they believed the guy with the bike as to its condition.

I just got off the phone with the owner of the largest Indian dealership. The 1962 model was a leftover 1961 since Royal Enfield was shutting down. If the bike is a number one condition (running and completely original) which is also called museum quality, it is worth $6700.00. The Royal Enfield motorcycles were plagued with quality issues and are not valued highly. If the bike is a number four condition it is only $900.00. Be careful with this if you are trying to buy it. There is one on Ebay now and it is at $2500. I assume that one in storage for twenty five years will need a complete overhaul. If you do this then do not disturb the patina of the engine or bike parts. It is worth more original than refinished. There is a man in Chicago with a 62 that has been completely restored and is only asking $6200.00.

Question about rear wheel removal
Sylvester replied to DANGEROUSDANA's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is the best time to remove the differential and drive shaft and make sure the spines are greased well. Many complain of finding them dry from the factory. I just did mine again last month. Not a difficult job at all. www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41660&highlight=removing+drive+shaft www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13263 www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56392&highlight=greasing+driveshaft -
I am curious as to what a Meskner tire is. I Googled the name but nothing came up.
