  1. I have an extremely rare square tube rack thats flat on the top instead of curved like the OEM one.I can't think of the manufacturer at the moment, but they only made parts for Royals when they first came out.It was never mounted and is one of my E-bay finds that I scarfed up.I also have a Cobra front fender rail but it won't work if you have a chrome tip on.It bolts to the front of the fender and the forks, however I used the chrome fork bolts for other things. If interested let me know,it might take a little time to find it as I'm still sorting out from last Septembers flooding.Herb.
  2. luci0903@aol.com. This guy sells occasionally on E-Bay,however you can contact him direct for an excellant video on completely rebuilding the carbs. He works on V-Max's,but they are exactly the same as the Royal Star.He also has an excellant video on rebuilding the motor and the 2 can be bought as a package for $20.00 the last I checked.Ask Skydoc if they are any good,I loaned my copies to him 6 months ago,and I believe he must still be studying them.Have fun, herb.
  3. Finally figured out how to get pictures to upload. Here's one of my Tour Deluxe with a Hoppe Fairing and a Venture tour pack .
  4. Ok,for anybody within reach of North Central Pennsylvania,I stopped at on of my favorite haunts for motorcycle stuff,Larry's Cycles,a long time Yamaha and Harley Dealer. Here is an inventory as best that I can remember from this afternoon. For !st gen owners: rectangular driving light set[main parts room],chrome fairing trim,2 sets of chrome seat mounts[not sure which seat].These will be found in a cardboard box in the middle of the floor in the western most used bike room.Just root around.{also some NOS V-Max trim}.In the main Yamaha acessory room,4 sets carb covers+1set for"96-'98,2 chrome center covers to match battery side covers,1 set rotor covers,1 set rear wheel chrome covers,2 sets master cyl covers, driving light mount bars, old style saddle bag lid protectors[i think there was 1 set for 1st gen also] and I'm already starting to forget, but I'm sure everyone gets the idea. And there was 2 Royalstar riding jackets in sizes XL and M.I am not a shill for Larry's,just want to help anybody looking for hard to find items. They are located on Pa route 6,west of Galeton about 4 or 5 miles.Good luck and happy hunting,Herb.
  5. Go to a Harley shop.Their "Genuine"accessory trim rings in either the Frenched style or the Visored style will fit.In fact the visored style closely matches the profile of the RSTD headlight and I have them on my passing lights.I have the type that screws in the bottom of the ring to fasten it or I would send my old ones and they won't interchange with the style you have which is what Harley uses also.I know it will be degrading to have to appear in a Motor Company store, but if you wear a good disguise, maybe no one will find out.Have fun,Herb.
  6. The pads are glued on,and for all the more money involved, not a place to cheep out.The brake pads are super easy to change once the right saddlebag is off so why wear them to the bitter end and chance scoring a rotor.Pop the plastic cover off and you will see what looks like 2-5.5 mm bolt heads. They are'nt really bolts and can be turned with a needle nose pliers so that you can acess a small clip on the inboard side of the caliper frame.Pull the clip, then remove the"bolt".Do that with both bolt heads and the pads will lift right out.Put everthing back the same way it came out and you're done.Have fun and good luck,Herb.
  7. jfoster,I added a Hoppe faring, which I think is the only one made to fit right out of the box.The wind protection is much better,BUT,only after I fabbed a bracket to mount a set of Diamond R lowers.Without lowers, the turbulance will be terrible.Check out delphi fourms Ultrastar Forum, there is lots of info there on farings. One big advantage of a batwing over the factory Yamaha faring is ease of removal for maintenance,or summer riding.I like the Hoppe faring, its very well made, and having tunes is nice too.Now the next project is to quiet the unbaffled straight pipes so I can hear them without blasting the guys a mile behind me.Good Luck,Herb.
  8. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showfull.php?product=2445&bigimage=HERBS_RSTC.jpg It's not a good closeup, but what is pictured is a Baron's master cylinder mount tach.It replaces the master cylinder cover and is made especially for the Venture & Tour Deluxe. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/248/index.html This is the Baron's page with the mount and has a good closeup of what it looks like installed.Other members have installed various other tachs in some imaginative ways.A forum search should yield more information.Good luck and enjoy the bike!Herb.
  9. Reno,if you go online to any OEM Yamaha parts supplier, they will have them in stock. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/ is a good company that I have personally dealt with. Here is the parts diagram, the price isn't too bad either. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx Good luck,Herb.
  10. Freebird, that is the light in the Fatboy.Herb.
  11. I ride with a buddy that has a Fatboy{not me} which he put a LED headlight in.He got it from a Volvo truck dealer and was told its the same one the Military uses in their trucks.I have a high power PIAA bulb in my headlight and his out performs mine in visibility. It has low and high beams just like a regular headlight and made a noticeable differance on his amp guage. It was very expensive though, about $225 if I remember.Hope this helps,Herb.
  12. The bar end weights are used as a rest for your right hand when using the cruise control. As the Royal Star cruise control is an electronic over mechanical system, your hand needs to be off the throttle grip in order for the cruise to function properly. If you've ever started a hard pull with the cruise on,you will notice the throttle grip moving, having your hand on the grip screws up the cruise from proper functioning. If you never use cruise control, then I suppose one would not need the end weights either.Herb.

  15. I have these grips, all you have to do to use the end weights is get longer bolts and on the throttle side, stack a few washers to keep the grip from binding. They look great and are very comfortable,25000+ miles so far.Herb.
  16. Here is a site that has complete DIY kits and a lot a choice in designs. http://www.winnerscyclegraphics.com/ I have the gold leaf set and get a lot of compliments on it.Good people to deal with,Herb.
  17. Squid,I used Amsoil antifreeze because its supposed to be good for 7 years thus reducing the aggravation of changing the coolant on these motors. Is there a compatibility problem with this type and if so what problems will develop?

Art,I just finished removing my RSTD backrest and put a Venture trunk on.I removed the spools, weld on pins for the quick release and the backrest with luggage rack. Was planning on listing it on E-Bay closer to spring, but would be happy to see a Venturerider member get it.Let me know if you're interested.Herb.
  19. Hey fixitdude, those disks will fit all 2nd gen Royals.Larry,s in Galeton,Pennsylvania has a set hanging on the wall for sale. They're not cheap though. You can get their # by looking under Harley dealers for Galeton,Pa.They carry Harley and Yamaha and have some other hard to find New Old Stock goodies for Royals.Good luck,Herb.
  20. When U buy a high performance motored bike like a Royal Star, don't expect good fuel milage unless U really baby it.96 hp & 98ft lbs of torque are pretty good numbers. My question to those quoting mid to high 40's fuel milage, have you corrected your speedometer? My guess is not. This bike really hates having the motor lugged and in fact most are unless a tach is used. That contributes to poor milage also as excess fuel is being dumped into the motor that can't be utilized. The very best milage I've gotten is 41 riding 2 lane roads under 55mph.The absolute worst was 26mph averaging 100mph into a headwind in Eastern Colorado.Of course,at that rate of consumption[15 minutes to the gallon],I had to refuel after an hour. That is also why I have an auxiliary fuel tank now.I got tired of having the Harley riders I go with complain about always having to stop for fuel on account of my rice burner. They all get far better milage than me;a '99 Dyna, avg 54;a '09 Road Glide, avg 58;and a highly modified '93 Fat Boy;avg 38.The Fat Boy also has an aftermarket 6 gallon fuel tank,so that with my combined 10 gallons of fuel,we both need fuel at about the same time.To conclude, fuel milage is not one of this bikes highlights, and whenever numbers out of the ordinary are tossed out as fact[anything over 40],I'm very suspicous of the circumstances.I'm not saying it's not possible to do,but one would really have to work at it,which is missing the whole point of riding motorcycles in the first place.Herb.
  21. mabeline, here is a set for the rear wheel listed on E-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ROYAL-STAR-TOUR-DELUXE-BILLET-REAR-WHEEL-DISCS-PAIR-NEW-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2306fe2406QQitemZ150441174022QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories front disk sets rarely show up on E-bay.Once,a complete set [front&rear] were listed with a starting price of $600 if memory serves me.Factoy list price was over $1400 for the set.I don't think many were sold.Occasionally an older Royal will be listed for sale wearing a set.Yamaha also made matching rotor covers to replace the "pie plates" in what they called a Tomahawk embossing and there was another design available, but I don't remember what they called it.These only replaced the factory pie plates, same size,Yamaha also had full chrome rotor and caliber covers which covered the entire rotor, the caliber cover was a seperately available set so that you could do one or the other or both together. This is just some of the many great accessories that Yamaha had availble once upon a time when Royal Star ruled the Star roost.Herb.
  22. I have every accessory catalog Star printed from 2002 until they stopped printing them for consumers in 2010.None list factory chrome wheels for the Royal Star. From '96 till '98,billet chrome disks for bolting to the wheels were avalible.Thats what the holes in the spokes are for in case anyone wondered.Aftermarket chromers do a wheel exchange for the factory wheels, which is what appears to be in the picture.Herb.P.S. Finding a complete set of billet disks[which were VERY expensive] IS a rarity.
  23. Seaking,if you watch E-bay,the Star accessory toe shifter conversion kits occasionally show up,sometimes at good prices.Chances of finding a used kit depend on how closely you watch places like the classified ads on this and other forums.I have seen used ones on E-bay once or twice in the in the last 3-4 years I've been following Royal Star parts.Remember, the toe shifter was avaible for the '96 Royals onward and will fit thru 2010 Ventures. As it looks like Star is moving away from Royal Star and going to V-twin based touring bikes, production of accessories is also coming to an end, many are limited to stock on hand. The long and short of it is,if you want and find accessory parts, decide how hard you want to look before letting one go because you want it for a few dollars cheaper.Good luck,Herb.
  24. I would say so,I gave 10,900 for my leftover '07 in'08.And remember,if it was'nt titled, the warrenty only starts when its put into service. If this is the bike you think you're going to enjoy,it's still a super buy.It does'nt look like there are going to be anymore Tour Deluxes,so the supply of these bikes is going to start drying up.Just look at the Star Motorcycle website if you want to see the future direction for their touring bikes.Best of luck in your decision,Herb.
  25. Here is a link to my pictures on Cruiser Customizing http://community.cruisercustomizing.com/_2007-RSTD/photo/7665258/22960.html Hope this is what you were looking for,Herb.
