  1. I put mine inside the fairing on the left side. It's been in there three years and it's very loud and works perfect. I had to pry and stretch and move a few things just a tad but I did it trial and error with no major mods. The people that I honk at can verify it is scary loud and probably louder to a car you are behind than a stock area mount. Go for it you will be well rewarded!
  2. Venom needs higher air pressure to get the good wear and miles. Two years ago I ran a rear till the cords were showing and still had grip! I walked up to my bike in a parking lot and saw the cords shinning in the sun.....Scared me! Crawl 30 miles home at 35-40 mph....Love Venoms here!
  3. I've put over 185,000 miles on two new style Ventures and the Avon Venoms make it handle like a top heavy Sport Bike instead of a dump truck and the mileage is the best I've ever enjoyed....NOTHING BUT VENOMS 4 ME! One trick to live by if you ride a lot of straight line highway is to find you a giant new blacktop parking lot about every 5k and cut you about a second gear 30 mph figure 8 for about 5 minutes and knock the sharp line edges off! I learned this at the dragon about 10 years ago with some 3/4 worn Metler 880's...I got there with sharp line edges and rode back to Ohio with round tires again! I run 42 lbs. front and rear and get 21 to 23k on front and 18-19k on rear...I change one at a time when needed.
  4. Make sure you are running on all cylinders and didn't drop one. You can be running on three and have the things you are. Lightly touch the back of each exhaust and make sure they are all hot. A few years back on a 2000 Venture I had I ran through some water and lost fire on one coil and didn't notice much difference till I found I was running on three after a few days. Could be bad or cracked plug... easy to check by touching pipes.
  5. I hang around Jackass Flats Bike Bar near Dayton Ohio and stopped for a drink and to see who was there. I parked beside a well worn looking red 2000 Venture. I ask around to see who was riding it and finally saw a girl go over to it and I ask her. She said her friend inside owned it and lived out of the country and recently became a US citizen. To my shock he showed me the odom and it had 352,000 miles on it. I didn't get his name or anything but saw the odom and didn't have my camera. He was headed for Sturgis now. I've heard of those kinda Venture miles but the first I've seen with anything near that! He told me he maintained it himself and no big repairs ever. Had a Corbin seat and GPS but was stock looking otherwise. Has anyone else ran into this guy?
  6. I got my 2002 midnight in March 2006 with 7250 miles on it after getting hit on 2000 Red Venture Oct.31,2005 with 86,000 totaling it.
  7. I have CD changer that I had in my 2000 Venture when it was totaled.....It was bought new with the bike in 2000 and in 2004 it was replaced under 5 year warranty because it was bought new on bike and I hit a pot hole and took out the Lazer....It's in Yamaha rubber case for in left saddle bag....I didn't get the original cord from totaled bike but Yamaha gave me the part # for the short CD Changer Cord since I had it on the bike that was totaled....I use XM all the time now and don't use it....Want to trade? Jerry Kniess 937-241-4535 Troy,Oh.
  8. Though I want a more comfortable seat I don't agree that you ride in that one position all day....I can stand on the back of my floor boards and put my butt up high on my utopia backrest and ride standing up very comfortable off my butt for 15--20 minutes....CAN'T DO THAT IN A CAGE!..The Mustang seat made such a great difference on my V-Star that I think that is what I'll do. I have over 180,000 miles on two new style ventures and I think the stock seat is a better than average seat but I need some help too!
  9. I have a Mustang seat on my 650 V-Star and have always loved it......I know Mustang has brought out a Venture seat....Who knows what?......Just rode home to Ohio from Thunder on the Beach in Panama City Beach....Need seat help for my 230 lb 64 y/o self!
  10. Sounds to me like a rear tire problem....out of balance or just worn to the point of being too hard. I have 94,000 miles on my current Midnight Venture and had 86,000 on 2000 Venture. I'm just replacing my rear Avon Venom this week and I get some of those problems from a hard used up tire and when the new Venom is on by Friday I'll be back to smooth and soft bite and ride.
  11. I have a midnight Venture that I gutted the pipes at 18,000 miles and love the noise and I'm ask lots what mufflers I have...Now I have 94,325 miles and love it........LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES.....and my Stieble Air horn in the fairing! I did blow my speakers when I run either of my short windshields though.....Bought guarenteed not to blow speakers from Sierra Electronics and they are as advertized!
  12. I had a 2000 Venture and when it had about 80,000 miles Yamaha gave me a new set because of visible heat cracking......When I took them off they were still very smooth and no cracks showing on inside. The reason for this post is I have 93,000 on Midnight Venture with heat cracks showing on the outside......OK friends what the real deal here?...JK
  13. I was told that the Rick H.O. Stator was back ordered but found one at...Catons MC Parts in New Madison,Oh....$159 and in stock at his supplier and I'll have it Wednesday...Got the Stator Gasket from Buckeye and they shipped it.....Very nice person there {Rick} Thanks for the tip about Buckeye....Our Yamaha's just don't break enough times to know where parts are when needed...THAT'S A GOOD THING AND WHY I RIDE ONE!!!!
  14. I need a Stator and gaskets for my 2003 Yamaha Midnight Venture......Ricki or ricky stator is on back order! Anyone have some good info....I need the Stator and gaskets for stator cover and small cover behind it....Thanks Jerry K
  15. I had a 2000 Venture with 86,000 and I now have 2003 Midnight Venture with 93,000.....Went from Dunlop to Metzlers [i ran 3 sets of Metzlers]...Have ran Avon Venoms for last 5 years and love them. 41 lbs. front and 43lbs. rear and I got 19,000 out of last rear tire and 23,000 out of front tire.....forget the good mileage they are by far the best riding and cornering tire for me. I run I-75 lots of my miles and have learned that when I get that I-75 flat spot in the center of the rear I find a nice big parking lot with new sharp black top and cut a nice 25 mph figure eight and run about 15 minutes with a good hard lean and it eliminates the edge! I found this trick about 10 years ago when I rode the Dragon for two days with a set of Metzler 880's that were about 3/4 worn and had I-75 flat spots when I started and were much better and the edge was gone for the trip home.
  16. It was sure great to see the Midnight Venture there! It might not be New but it's still cool....and had lots of lookers and setters.....I don't know what year it came back but the bright black dash sure looks good being shiny black again....when did that happen? I think Yamaha had the biggest area there too.:Venture:I was kinda hoping they'd replace the cassette with an 8 track but nooooo!
  17. I put mine in the fairing on the left side and I've had it in there 3 years......Very loud and no problem at all. It was a tight fit and took a couple tries to get it exactly right before putting fairing back on......Don't think it restricts the sound much if any! Scares people.
  18. I've used a Sears lift since they first came out. Took about 5 minutes to make 4 2x4 corner pieces and bolted to the lift....never a problem.
  19. I've used Metzler 880'S and 4 sets of Avon Venoms and get the best ride, handling and wear from the Venom's.........16-17K on rear 18-22k on front with 43lbs. rear and 40lbs. front....Best tire I have ever owned.....JK
  20. I'm on my second new style Venture and have over 185k combined miles on them. In October I went on a yearly ride to Winchester Speedway with my friends from Jackass Flats. We get to put all the bikes on the track,a high banked blacktop 1/2 mile, and have at it for 8-10 laps and get to repeat a few times too! What a blast to let the Venture blow past my Harley friends. Anyway after 3 outings on that day running in 3rd gear wide open and hitting the rev limits on the straights I thought my power was falling....or was the speed deceiving me? As we left the track in a group of 50 bikes I was sure my bike was noisey and power was down. At a traffic light I told my buddy what was going on and he said my bike was sounding noisey. I felt each pipe and all 4 were firing. When we reached the next stop I was concerned but with all the Harley guys talking about how good my bike sounded blowing past them and saying they had a new respect for my Venture. It felt and sounded better but still not right until we had rode about 50 miles at normal speeds. Then in a good place for it one of my friends with a 2010 Harley Ultra Classic Limited hit it hard and started around me and it was ON then! My bike ran great and while he was trying to shift gears on his Harley I was banging gears like a Yamaha dirt bike and it ran great! I don't know for sure but I'm thinking I bleed the lifters dry or something and I had problems until they pumped back up.....I have rode it over 1000 miles after that and it's not noisey and runs great as usual! Can anyone tell me what happened?
  21. I had a 2000 Venture with 86K and now have Midnight Venture with 93k and I know what you are talking about. I do as stated above I warm it up when real cold then turn it off a second and start it in gear. I don't think letting it jump really hurts anything but I prefer not to because it seems like the bike doesn't like it and I try and treat my bike the best I can because I abuse it enough when it's warm. The Ventures are tuff machines but why not protect it all you can!
  22. I had 86,000 on 2000 Venture and I have 92,000 on 2002 Midnight Venture....By gas ,tires and brakes every once in a while and just ride the darn thing! :Venture:JerryK
  23. It looks to me like low air pressure wear to me. I run Avon Venoms and 40+ front and rear and get great miles. I had 2000 Venture with 86K on it when totaled in 2005 and have 93,000 on Midnight Venture now......I learned on a trip to Tn. and Deals Gap that my tires lost that center flat spot from running the interstate. So every couple months I find a big open parking lot somewhere with nice blacktop and run a 30 mph figure 8 for about five minutes and grind that edge away.
  24. I had a Red 2000 before my midnight and had some touch up done by a pro car lot touch up guy. What he knew was that the two reds are not the true color till you put red tinted clear on it....But a good touch up guy can read the color electronically and paint what ever you want that color..........Jerry K:Venture:
