  1. Much better than troubleshooting non firing cylinders. I would have skipped the coffee myself, to delicate of soldering. One thing that a few others have found a little easier, but less elegant, is to cut the plastic housing open. They then RTV sealed it back up. The hardest part of this to me was unsoldering the board from the case pins. The diodes can be done one lead at a time, but there are 14 leads on the case/board junction that all have to come loose together. Gary

  3. That looks very nice !! Gary
  4. The VMX12N is the VMax, it has the same carbs as the 86-93 Ventures did. The VMax & Venture MKII's were 35mm carbs, The MKI's were 34mm's. This difference in the throat diameter would very possibly cause a change to the Pilot Screw. Gary
  5. All this build up to this? Your gonna have to do better Mike. What does it do, how much are they gonna cost us, where are the drawings. What colors are available?? Don't make me come out there !! Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/wtf.jpg
  6. I just did a search on the complete 1985 XVZ1200D and there is no entry for 'Pilot Screw Set' or variations of this. Gary
  7. I have a cross reference software for Yamaha P/N's When I put in the P/N 12R-14105-00-00, which is for the 86 1300 carbs, it did not show up on the 85 carbs Gary
  8. The local HD dealer here also sells Yamaha's, but they will not sell RSV's. Something about the contract with HD. If you look at the web site there is little if any mention of the Yamaha affiliation on the main page. Hales main site page http://www.haleshd.com/default.asp Hales Yamaha. http://www.halesyamaha.com/ Gary
  9. Not strong enough, You seen the size of Snag?? He's a big'un. Plus I would think he woulda made 2. Gary
  10. Look at this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=493 It will help problems other than just the E4 error. Gary
  11. I am going with a bracket to mount an electronic gizmo to the steering bar riser. Gary
  12. Here are a couple of pictures that may help. The one with all the red in it is an MKII set up. Large washer goes between the brake arm & the swing arm. Second picture is of an RSV, positioning is same. Gary
  13. It looks like the spring retainer that holds the driveshaft boot in place on the rear of the motor. This is based on my 1st gen experience. Gary
  14. I think a picture may help with the visual aspect of this thread. Gary
  15. What was Charlene' symptoms/diagnosis? I have been having something very similar to what you describe. I have an extreme pain in left leg esp. when I get up. Has been increasing a bunch last two days. I have had kidney stones and this pain is right there with the stones. Dr. put me on a high short term dose of steroids Tuesday to try and reduce inflammation that may be pressing on a nerve. Good luck BTW. Gary

  17. The spark plug ends of the coil wires can get corroded, there is a small resistor in there. Replacing plug wires would not be a bad idea if they are original. Gary
  18. Is the fuel tank petcock open? You could try draining a carb bowl, then turn key on. This should cause pump to click as it fills bowl. Just for peace of mind mostly. Do you have any spark? Gary
  19. I think the fine print says that he will need to charge $50 to disassemble & inspect the item. If it is covered under warranty, your $50 will be refunded, minus shipping costs & shop consumables. Please allow 8-12 weeks for a final determination. Gary
  20. Here is a schematics of the starting circuits only for the MKII's. Gary
  21. I may be getting a set of Denso COPS from a 2007 CBR 1000. Anyone know what ohms these would be? The Ignitech module has a setting in it for coil ohms. It could be that I would not need to have a resistor in the COP's circuit. Below is cut from Ignitech manual. Dwell - sets excitation of induction coils Short - for coils with resistance lower than 2 ohms. dwell time 1 ms with the dynamic addition 12%. Long - for coils with a resistance greater than 2 ohms. dwell time 3ms with the dynamic addition 12%. Manual - the ability to manually determining the excitation time Auto - automatic dwell time determination. Unit determines optimal dwell time by measure dynamic current in channel 1. With that choice the spark-coil has to be connected to channel 1. Second picture is what a COP unit looks like in a VMax head for a size relationship. Gary

The Venture motor is as rebuildable as any other motor out there. There are oversize pistons and bearings available. PCW has a 1500cc kit for these. The cylinder sleeves are cast iron & replaceable. With time & money this motor is capable of 200hp, not an everyday rider, but has been done. Gary
  23. Same thing I did, I have a Brother P Touch label maker, used clear tape. Gary
  24. Out of all the replaced parts on my bike I only have one 2nd gen part that comes to mind. And that one does in fact make the bike go slower.. Seriously I used a front brake splitter from a 2nd Gen. Don't recommend others doing this though. I had to make a bracket to raise it up higher. It is long enough it may have contacted fork brace if front end ever collapsed all the way. Picture I attached is before bracket and S.S. lines. It shows how far is sticks down. The Vmax splitter is better. But I already had S.S. lines by the time I realized the problem, so I made it work. Is that a picture of your mirror Mikey? I have the same thing on mine but it is not etched in. Would like to get them etched sometime. Gary
  25. I just noticed we have our first three Hawaiian members, all three joined this month. E komo mai. Nou ka hale Gary
