Throttle cable rebuild help
dingy posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am looking for a source of a tool/kit to be able to change out the ends on a 1st gen throttle cable. I need to be able to reattach the small round lead barrel on the end of the twisted cable. I have a local source for the cable, dirt cheap, but not at the right lengths or end styles. I need to do some tweaking to at least the carb end pull cable. It would also help if I could modify the choke & vboost cables. I have found a place online, but they are in England. Not out of the question, but a domestic source would be nice. http://www.venhill.co.uk/Cable_kits_and_components/UNIVERSAL_CABLE_KITS/VWK003_WORKSHOP_THROTTLE_CABLE_REPAIR_KIT.html It seems like there should be a crimping style tool to attach the ends, but haven't found one. OK Zane, We are narrowing this down. Since he said he broke his rear master reservoir, I think that eliminates the front master reservoir ! But, alas I don't have one. I sold the spare to someone in a similar predicament. Seems the mounting on the reservoir is only one bolt. They seem easy to damage. I think that a VMax reservoir could be made to work if you can't find a Venture unit. Gary

Need picture of cable from cb to tuner
dingy replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Get a hold of BongoBobNy. When he stopped here last year on his way to get RSV triked, I gave him a cable that may be what you are after. I think he may have been using it in Goldie, so it may be inaccessible by now. Gary -
Air compressor will only work with key in Accy position, this is to keep you from messing with it while riding I think. But the CB & Radio, that's OK while riding. Value, Priceless, these things are a little older and need some fussin. But the fun of the extra power and great handleing is worth it. And for the most part, the clutches don't whine and the shocks don't leak. Gary

I'm an idiot Squueze, for some reason I had the CCA number of 300 in my head. Still not cheap though, I didn't search a lot, but $40 was lowest I saw. And at 2V, I would need probably 7 of them. Normal battery voltage is around 13.2 V with a standard type battery. Gary

What kind of cycling problems are the Lithium batteries displaying? Would they be harmed by the sometimes low voltage conditions they might encounter? It doesn't seem like a bike would subject them to full draw down conditions like a power tool would. I looked at batteries that Squeeze suggested but they are rated at 25AH @ 2V. Even with seven of them this is not nearly enough. Only 175 AH, and they are $40 each. Gary

As I said in post referenced, I was told by a person selling the springs they were the same specs as an MKI, I did not verify this. Only way to know is to get compression rates on the Barnett springs. New springs would be better than 25 year old springs in any event though. If the compression rate for a NEW MKI spring could be measured or somehow obtained, it would be possible to source out a higher compression spring from various sources to give more pressure with the MKI style clutches. The compression factor would be easier to adjust on an MKI style plate, but I don't fell the need to dive into this. This could be done be varying spring rates or possibly shimming springs. We really have four rates avaliable with the MKII/RSV style clutches. 1st - Stock spring 2nd - PCW spring 3rd - Two stock springs 4th - Two PCW springs Gary

I have considered that, I am just not sure what the offset in weight would due to handling. Gary

First set of pictures shown jumpers on a CMU with a gear indicator in it. Next picture is showing high & low beam warning jumpered out. Last is a picture salty dog posted of the standard CMU layout. Gary

OK, you guys are peain' in my wheaties here. I still think I need a smaller battery to make the VMax air Box work. It is tight. With the lithium, I could still mount it in front of the air cleaner with the vmax air box. 1st pic is vmax air box, 2nd is stock air box. The AGM battery won't fit in laying on its side due to length like is shown in 3rd picture (from Rick Butler), I think this may be the next size smaller battery. I can rotate it 90 deg so terminals are on left or right side though. Still leaves me with needing a place to put the vboost motor. It should go where the battery is shown. It has a throttle style cable that limits where it can go. Gary

Ok, here is another reason to vote me off the island. I have a listing in the vendors section, but I also have my wrench listed in the regular classifieds. Which by the way, makes a wonderful spring tune up tool !!! Gary

What difference is there between an MKI clutch and the Barnett? Just stronger springs? These MKI clutches are always on ebay, if the stronger springs are available & cost effective this might be another option. I have one laying around I took out of the 1200 motor. Pictures of MKI style clutch attached. Gary

HD Road Glide rider backrest on a 1st gen
dingy replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Here is a picture that shows the release lever. Just to the right of the silver nut at top right of bracket, there is a black plastic lever. You push it down with finger through opening in seat and seat back bracket releases and can be pulled up and removed. To replace just push down in bracket. Gary -

It does interfere with wife sitting back there, which isn't often. She is short, 4'11". Maybe narrowing of the overall width of the backrest itself might help reduce this. I would think it would be less intrusive than the pictured one you attached. It is removable with a pushbutton on top of main bracket. 10 seconds to pull off and put in trunk. Gary -
OK, my bad, I thought you wanted badges off to plate them. Gary

MPH loss on slight grade
dingy replied to royalstar09's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Also, what speed & what gear are you in when you notice this. 5th at say 50 mph up a hill may start to slow a little. Gary -
How long do you set at the key board with a blank stare trying to come up with the last line in your posts? Gary

Take two round dowel rods about 8" long. Wrap about 24" of fishing line between them, keep 16-18" or so between dowels and start a sawing type motion. Sizes can be adjusted to suit !! It is slow, but it will get them off. Gary

Did you ever post the soup commercial you were in ?? Gary

Depending on road surface, I will either pull the front end up about 18" in 2nd gear, or the rear end will break loose on the bike, when I hit a hard up shift at about 9,000 RPM. That is why the engine is back out, and back in, this winter. It should do that in 3rd now !! Gary

I put some more pictures in the first post. This is the best thing I have done to the bike comfort wise. It is a huge improvement. I have two broken vertebrae in my lower back and the support is excellent. Gary -
It might be interesting to see what intesity of a spark is being developed from each coil. I don't know if GooseV7 might have some insight to a low cost tester that would give a visual indication. Something along the line of the link below. http://www.dpciwholesale.com/High-Energy-Ignition-Spark-Tester.html I do not know if this tester is a good one to do this with or not, found it on a search. There may be better ones to do this with. Gary
