I asked Don and he didn't have an official count. I would guess 250 -300 though. We had at least 140 at the Friday night dinner. Gary

Here are some pictures from Friday nights social gathering, the eve of the real Bull S****ing day. Had roughly 140 people and upwards of 80 bikes there. Service was spotty, some got food late, but with 140 people coming in it could have been worse. They didn't have enough tables for all of us, some of the huskier members carted picnic tables & regular tables around. It was not bad all around though. Weather was great. Gary

Frank, He has a 1200 motor, It's a VMax. Would that change readings? Gary -
If the neutral light is on then I really gotta doubt the neutral switch is defective. I would check for corroded or loose connections Starting Circuit Cut-Off Relay Assy. I just checked the diagram I posted above to the 'Official" Yamaha diagram, and I think what I redrew matches the Yamaha version. But, I think they are both incorrect. It looks like there would be a direct path from 12v + to ground through the neutral switch & one of the diodes in the Start circuit. It could be that the official version of the starting circuit relay is incorrect. I would need one to run some ohm checks on it to see how it is wired. Gary

Not many people there yet. Freebird, Monty, Goose & GaryN & their better halves. And me solo. No one was table dancing yet, maybe tomorrow. And there is a new puppy on the ranch. No pictures from tonight, sorry. Gary

It could possibly be the diode pack connections are bad, loose corroded etc. Attached is a PDF showing the starting circuits in 3 different configurations. Also attached is the simplified wiring diagram which may help. Are you getting a neutral indicator on the dash? Gary

Aftermarket TCI available!

Only thing I can think off that may be causing this is incorrect wiring of the MAP module. If you power the Ignitech unit up, you should be able to read 2-5Vdc from pin 6 to pin 7 on the connector to the TCI. This voltage should vary as vacuum is applied to the MAP sensor. You should have constant 5vdc from pin 7 to pin 17 with TCI powered up. Attached is a picture of my wiring harness. The three red arrows point to the 3 additional wires I added for the MAP sensor. Your wire colors may be different. Gary -
Attached is a PDF format map showing route to Quaker Steak & Lube restaurant from Freebird's. I will have some printed out available at Don's house Friday. Link to thread below, this is a pre-MD dinner & table dancing extravaganza Friday night. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58761 Rumor is there will be a speech by MarCarl !!! It seems every other person in Mansfield has relatives from around Olive Hill Ky. A lot of people moved up here for factory jobs when industry was booming around here. My 1st wife and my wife now both have deep roots in Olive Hill area. Gary

The brake & clutch lines are easy, almost anyone that sells custom S.S. lines can make whatever you want. The throttle cables may be more difficult to find. Also plan on extending the wiring cables. Gary

There is such a thing as a radial tube. Somewhat different construction for car tires to deal with the sidewall flexing. But I don't know if this applies to a M/C tire due to the different forces on the sidewall. What are the thickness limits on a rotor? How did dealer determine it was not in spec. I looked in service manual & there is not a minimum thickness listed for MKII's. If it was grooved by metal to metal contact I could see the concern. Gary

The rear luggage rack changed significantly in 86. Every thing is bolted in place with a wrap around rear end. I can pull both saddle bags and trunk in under a minute, they are key locked on. They may not be as big as the MKII's, but are a lot easier when it comes to working on the bike. Gary

I talked with Justin (a manager) at Quaker Steak this morning and he is expecting around 100 of us Friday starting around 5pm. I will follow up again with him Friday at some point. Gary

I think one or two of us have changed the pick up coils. You have to pull the stator cover to get at them. Before surgery, you can ohm check the coils. They should be between 93 & 126 ohms. There are 4 coils and the black wire is common. The common (black wire) is the one in the connector that does not have a wire above it. 5 wires in a 6 place connector. The service manual states the orange wire is common, this is incorrect. Gary

I looked at the one I removed from my bike. If there is fluid under the rubber cap, it needs replaced. I don't know of a rebuild kit for these. Might check with MiCarl or Skydoc17. One of them will know if it can be rebuilt. Gary -
Where is the ignition "pressure sensor"?
dingy replied to frankd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It is mounted to the same bracket as the TCI is on. Left side and rear of TCI. Should be no leaks obviously. Could be a damaged line or the plastic connector that transitions from the carb side vacuum line size to the sensor side vacuum line. This is a small gray connector. Picture shows this connector in hoses. Gary -
Venture Royale carburetor questions

One more thing that would be helpful when you ask questions in future would be to put your bike info in your user info. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58880 Gary -
I did ask Dr about this. In my case the bad disk is extruded so far into spinal canal that only thing that will repair it is get the extruded part out. This might be helpful on a bulging disc, but I am past that point. Gary

Whoops, sorry about the wrong size, I should have known that. But it does gotta come out like Carl said. This one has an extremely small hole in it, very easy to plug up. Gary -

Venture Royale carburetor questions

The rubber blocks on the bottom of the jet block assy. don't seem like much but they are a source of low end & idle problems. Partshark.com has them. Also inside of the jet block assy, there is a 42.5 jet (on 83 & 84 only, 85 & up have a 37.5). This is harder than heck to get clean and not mess it up. Did you clean that one? It is the one on left in picture. Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/floatjetblock2.jpg -
The Ohio State Patrol got a pair of bikers doing 140+ last summer down around Columbus from an airplane. When they pulled them over, it was found to be two off duty Ohio State Patrolmen. Gary

Send me an address. I did the same thing to one of mine. I got a set of thin nylon washers and put behind them so they didn't bend in when screw was tightened. Gary
